2023.06.01 01:33 ACheekyTimelord For the new people

So I ran a few QPs the past few days and I'm seeing a pattern going on. I'm going to assume this is because people are new from all the simple mistakes that they are doing, but here are a few things you should know.

  1. Start On Recruit: Don't go in thinking your some badass because you play Call of Duty. You need to know the map layouts, spawns of resources, and that friendly fire is a thing. Been running into too many people in Nightmare/No Hope that have 0 clue what is going on and having starter decks.
  2. Tool Kits are Important: Tool kits are one of the most powerful accessories in the game. They are the only way to get into stash rooms and can be used to by pass the booby traps on warp chests. Don't hold onto them like a newborn baby. Use them. If you find a warp chest and have a tool kit, then use it. Getting Deep Wounds (trauma dmg) when you are already low health isn't fun.
  3. Stay As A Team: Running off is a fast way to cut your game short. This game has A LOT of CC specials that the AI will spawn and the only way out is using a burn card, stun gun, or being Evangelo (and no one likes being called an Evangelo player).
  4. Roles Count: You can't see it when loading into a match but there are roles to be filled in. Everyone does damage but there are decks that are filled to handle certain situations. Melee is your tanks and should stick with the team and hold off the common as they rush in. Support is there to keep everyone up and do pick ups when someone is downed, their decks normally do a lot of team buffs and can pick up people fast applying more heal recovered. Special Killers are good at picking off the specials before they reach the team. Sniper decks are the best at this but it leaves them vulnerable close range.
  5. Communication: Lower difficulties it isn't really needed these being Recruit and Veteran. Nightmare and No Hope it is key. The ping system is wonky and even if you have your crosshair on something the ping will not land 80% of the time. Best to talk to your team and let them know of the danger or items that you find someone could use.
  6. Don't Be A Dick: If for some reason you decide not to use a mic or the very least type, do not shoot someone to get their attention. 99% of the time you will get dropped, they will get kicked for FF, and now you're down a team member mid round because you wanted them to pick up that defib so you can hold onto your stun gun. I myself have dropped people for shooting me in No Hope/Nightmare because of this. I have even ended a run when it was a group of 3 being pricks because I was the odd man out. Normally you'll get a warning over mic or text. If you keep it up then you'll lose a player or the run.
  7. If You're Not Support Don't Take Medkits: Medkits should be reserved for your support player. They will have a deck that gives +% to healing and can heal far more than other people can with those kits. Those kits also HEAL trauma and since support usually as +% to heal, they'll heal more trauma. Pain Pills are the best to go with since they are fast to use and let you temporarily use your own trauma as health.
  8. Share The Auto Regen Special Card: This is more towards melee decks that self heal (which every melee deck should do this to be of some worth). You don't need that card and it doesn't give it to the entire team, only to the person that picks it up. So if you are already self healing from kills and pick this up, you are taking that away from someone else that could actually benefit from it such as your support. They'll have to use a healing item on themselves rather then on someone else.
  9. Do Not Drop Everything When You Leave: If you are done and want to leave the game, don't drop everything you have. Someone else will drop in and now they're stuck with nothing but the white guns the bots spawn with and no ammo. If you're going to drop anything then drop the copper for the team. That can be made up during the course of the run much better than finding a new gun.
  10. Don't Baby Rage: Fuck am I tired of hearing people screaming into their mics with a pitch so high dogs howl. If you get downed don't scream for a pick up. You will get picked up after the danger is over. Having someone run in to get you up drops the active number of people down to 2 and places the revivor in a pickle as they cannot defend themselves while picking you up. If you get downed then congratulations! You are now a human turret and can fire on everything with unlimited ammo. Raging into a mic is a quick way to get yourself muted and/or treated poorly in the match by getting denied items and/or heals.
I know it's a list of 10 things but these are the 10 things I have been seeing constantly in the past few days. Go in, have fun, but keep in mind of these things. They will make the game play much better for you and your fellow gaymers.

2023.06.01 01:26 djragonwarrior More annoying than difficult boss fights? How irritating is too irritating?

Been working on my own jrpg project and trying to currently map out the mechanics of some boss fights. One on particular (well, three technically but they're all the same person) by design is rooted less in outright difficulty and more on being a severe annoyance.
We'll call this guy Raven for now. His whole schtick is that he's a master of illusion. So while his hp and damage stats are not quite up to par with other bosses at that point in the game, he makes use of very high agility and evasion, the ability to dodge and counter physical attacks and reflect magic attacks (not with 100% success but the chance is always there).
Bosses in my game all posses a "desperation attack/skil" that is preceded by one turn where they take no action (they may give a line of dialogue or something to tip off the player), and on order to stop the desperation move the player must strike the bosses weakness to stun them between their warning turn and the actual move the next turn.
Raven's desperation move rather than an attack is a buff that for x amount of turns he becomes untargetable, you'll just t have to survive his (admittedly not very powerful) onslaught until the buff wears off.
The other caveat to his fights is that his final one the player is short one party member due to him killing them off.
In short, it doesn't take a lot of damage to put him down, but it's also difficult to consistently deal damage to him. Does that come off as an annoying, unfun fight? Are there other examples of bosses in other games that may be similar?

2023.06.01 01:22 Crobran I'd like to convert an antique radio to a bluetooth speaker. What speakers, bluetooth receiver and amps do you recommend? More details and questions in text.

It's a Philco 49-906, 14x8x9". There's only a single 6" oval hole in the front center. I'd like for the knobs on front to function, or at least some of them. The first one is power+tone. 2nd is volume. Not sure about the 3rd knob and the 4th is tuning. Obviously I need a power and volume, maybe both functions in one knob. High and low eq might be mapped to the others, or high, mid and low. I'm comfortable with soldering.
I'm thinking I'd like to put two small speakers behind that opening and a single larger speaker inside for the low end. Would it be better to put a single mid-sized speaker in the front opening and send send mono to it?
And would it be worth it to use an amp with a crossover to separate the highs and lows in a configuration like this?
Again, whatever your answers to the above questions, what specific equipment do you recommend. Thanks!

2023.06.01 01:20 JaseyRaeRadio Is humanity endangered in this game?

Sorry if that’s an odd way to put it. I’m not finished with the story. I just found the white seed ship to save Ellone. (Did not go in said ship yet )
With all the revelations with cid and Edea it seems odd to me that these two have so much decision making power with the creation of garden and how all the kids end up at a military school.
Also the world map is very bleak (in line with the others on the system but particularly notable here imo)
They might explain it better but I don’t remember them saying anything like that so far. Sorry if I missed it

2023.06.01 01:14 OrganicExplanation23 The one piece, is a “messed up” buggy ball

Idk if anyone else has made this theory but hear me out anyway. We know the one piece is an actual object not like “the friends we made on the way” so imagine. The one piece is a buggy ball prototype that buggy thought was a defect but was actually like 1000x more powerful and didn’t take off the ship when he got off. So Roger thought it would be funny to stick a buggy ball in there. Because, its yk, funny. And what makes my theory even better in my head is that it lets every obtain their goal. Luffy gets to destroy Mariejois, sanji gets the all blue and Nami gets an easy way to traverse the sea for her map.
To me. This makes sense. Is there any plot holes I missed or something?

2023.06.01 01:08 AffectionatePlum2272 The Enchanted Ones “Journey of the Believers”

Chapter 1 The Villager’s Warning
In the North near the tempestuous mountains and the groves of the Relum trees, which grow relum, which are like sweet pears, was a prosperous village called “ Alestra”. Alestra is a medium-sized village known for its cloying relums and its soft and crumbly soil perfect for the trees and gardens. They lived a humble and healthy life supplying themselves with veggies and meat from the boars they hunted. The water from Rivenile was the source of their agricultural success and survival. The sound of little children having fun exploring the fields of grain while their family works diligently on the farms. Most of the children spend their time outside either helping with their family's farm or playing near the grains and on the trees playing fun games. All except one particular boy who will spend his days indoors writing stories and reading about the fascinating creatures he wishes to discover. His name was Aran, a 12-year-old with red hair living with his parents who helped the village by transporting their food and veggies to nearby villages. Aran eagerly followed his father, perpetually saying “Father, can I hear the story about the Rift Creators of the Coliseum again please?”. The father replied, “ How about tonight when your mother is back for dinner, is that alright?”. “ Yes Father,” said Aran. Aran rushed to his room whose walls were covered with sheets of drawings and a portrait of his family right in the center of his room. His desk was piled with books and maps slightly torn and dirty. His bed was big enough for him, and a little chest lay at the end of the bed to store the items he cherished. Aran sat on his chair and picked up a book labeled “ Creatures of the Night” and he sat on his bed and read from where he began. Meanwhile, the Father went near his stable and put the ponderous goods on the wagon when he smelled a putrid stench of a rotting corpse. The father looked around to find the smell and discovered a Villager riding a horse carrying a wagon with numerous dead bodies disfigured and all missing body parts. “ What happened to them!?” stuttered the father in shock. “ To be honest I don’t know?” said the villager. “It might be a wolf or a bear,” said the villager. “That can’t be bears since it's winter,” said the father. “We might have to stop shipment to other villages,” said the villager. “Why, though, it's only a few animals we can take care of,” said the father. “Well, that depends if the mayor agrees,” the villager says. “Shouldn’t we mail this to animal control, maybe they can control these beasts,” the father said. “Already mailed it to them, should be arriving in a few weeks or so”. The villager rode his horse to the village square leaving the father worried. When it was nightfall the family was at the dinner table eating their food. They had a hot and warm meat pie filled with lamb and pork all mixed with gravy with a side of pan-fried spinach. After their dinner, Aran rushed towards his room with his father following him. “ Are you gonna tell me the story Father?” asked Aran. “ Alright, hold your patience,” said the father as he sat down on the bed. “ The story of the ..colosseum begins with the Greater wills, gods who judge the realms and serve as the way of evolution”. “When these gods see someone they love they give birth to the demigods. “ Each demigod ruled the realms and served as a ruler for their realms,” asked the Father. “ They had abilities like gravity, time, War, pestilence, and even death, while others had less powerful abilities like sand,” said the father. “ Each of the demigods is known to be the best and the most revered in their worlds.,” said the father in a Joyous mood. '' “All had everything they could need in their lives, but some wanted more”. The father looked outside the dark knight. “ Well it's getting late. The father replied with a tired tone “ Sleep well Aran”. “Can you finish the story tomorrow? " asked Aran, resting his head on the pillow. “Of course,” said the father. Aran closed his eyes and dreamed of himself in the stars, seeing the planets go by as he feels the 5 years later Aran who was now 17 got off his bed with his room no longer having the drawings he used to have and the desk he still had an accumulation of books. He passed his parent's room and went into the kitchen to make his parents some breakfast. Aran's parents were always tired of the number of resources needed for other villages and Aran’s mother sprained her knee when running back to the village. Aran grabbed a few thick pork slices and chopped them to put on the ardent sizzling pan. Aran proceeded to crack a few eggs, mix them with scallions, and place them on the pan with the pork bits until they were cooked well. The sound of the sizzling food awoke the father as he peeked through the kitchen to see his son cook. The father asks” Son it's still dark outside why are you up this early”. “I wanted to give you something to eat while I’m gone with the delivery for the next town,” said Aran. “ Alone, you can’t be alone when Wendigos are out on the road”. “ Let me come and help you deliver the food..” but as the father said that he was cut off and the Aron said, “ It's alright I brought a knife with me and I’ll be cautious”. Aran exited the house and went near the stable to ride his horse carrying the fruits and vegetables on his side. Aran rode his horse down the road to the village square. The village square had big houses with markets surrounding the houses and farms surrounding the Relum trees growing ever so long behind the village. The villagers look depleted and worn out. Aran rode his horse to the other houses to ask for resources and food they offered them all saying “ Tell Newberry to stay strong”. After Aran was finished taking the villager's supplies for Newberry he went to the village chief to gather his resources. He knocked on the door of the Mayor's house and saw him with a pile of water buckets, a few bags of gold, and Packs of wood. “ Ah Aran, please put this on your cart and tell Newberry to stay safe and have hope”. “Of course chief,” said Aran. Aran rode his horse to the village gate next to the tower post. When Aran was next to the post a Knight went outside of the tower replying “ What is your business of leaving Alestra '' . “ I’m transporting my family’s food to the village of Newberry, “ said Aran. “ The village of Newberry isn't doing well since the Wendigos raided them, they're going to need those supplies” said the knight. Aran was permitted to leave Alestera and Aran continued his journey on the path. Aran passed through from a few corpses to an abundance of them until Aran saw the village. The village was burned and ravaged with dark smoke covering the sky and the stench of burning flesh still in the air. Aran rushed to the village to see if anybody survived but found none survived. When Aran was about to leave he saw smoke coming out of the forest, Aran rode his horse swiftly and came to the source of the fire. He saw a few villagers and a small number of children near the fire scared and tired from the raid. “ Are you the villagers of Newberry?” asked Aran. “ We used to be until the Wendigos attacked,” said an elderly lady. Aran with a shocked look on his face asked: “ What about the knights”. “ Most of them died fighting while some died running,” said the old man next to the lady. “ Some more knights tried to help but those insidious beasts forestalled ”. Aran was worried for the villagers of Newberry and shouted“ I have resources from the town of Alestra and we have come for your help!!!”. All the villagers looked at Aran as he continued to shout “ Please gather any resources you need and help yourself to the food you need to survive with!!!”. The Villagers filled with hope and joy rushed to the cart and gathered all the supplies. They were all eating and drinking and covering themselves with blankets making them feel just a little bit safer. “ We don’t know how to thank you, young sir,” said a man with his children next to him. “ Please sir you don’t have to do anything, but if you and the others need help we're just a few miles away south,” said Aran. Aran left with an empty cart and a feeling of beatitude when he saw the villagers of Newberry full of bliss and hope. Halfway through his trip back to his village the horse instantaneously stopped and nearly threw Aran off the horse. “ Stay here Becky,” said Aran smoothly. He jumped off the horse and looked all around to see if anything would jump out and attack him. Suddenly he heard a large screeching sound mixed with screeching. He heard rustling and sticks being broken. He heard the noise again except it was teeth chattering and the sound of a loud sharp horn was closer. “ We have to go, Becky,” said Aran urgently as he jumped on his horse and rode as fast as he could. Aran heard the sound come closer and faster towards him. Aran had the sudden urge to stop the horse midway. Aran stopped his horse and soon after a dark wendigo jumped out in front of him and crashed near some trees and was unconscious for a few seconds. Aran used that time to ride away while horrified by that chase. The wendigo screeched in anger as Aran was out of its sight. Aran returned to the village sweaty and scared and opened the doors only to be on his knees. The father rushed up to him with the mother following him slowly. “ Aran what happened to you?!” asked the father in a frightened manner. “I escaped from a wendigo,” said Aran panting. “ How in this world did you survive?!” asked the father. “ Raranold, let the Aran rest now,” said the mother. “ Aran is traumatized enough for today, we can ask when he is ready but for now let him sleep and rest”. The father took a deep breath and said to Aran “ You can go upstairs and we’ll cook something for you, is that okay ''. “That's okay,” Aran replied. Aran went upstairs to his room and went to his bed to sit. Aran heard voices from downstairs wanting to hear what his parents were talking about. Aran opened the door quietly, walked on the stairs sneakily, and peered through the kitchen to hear what they were saying. “ 7 people died on that road and were eaten, there is no way our son could survive one of their attacks,” said Raranold. “ I think it's time for us to leave the village”. “But where will we go, Raranold,” asked the mother. “ We could go to the city of Elistar and maybe there we can be safe,” said the father. “I don’t know what to do now Elizabeth”. “ We can leave tomorrow when we pack all our stuff and leave while we still have light, and maybe we can reach an inn,” said Elizabeth. “ But what about Aran, how will he handle this?” asked Raranold. “He might be upset about it but I’m sure he’ll love the big city and all its fancy buildings and all the new stuff he’ll like”. “ Plus we have a good amount of money to survive in the city”. “ Now then, we should be cooking dinner at Raranold”. “ Please pass me the mushrooms on your right, we're going to be making some skewers” Aran walked to his room quietly shocked by the fact that he will move from the village he grew up in. Aran looked out the window gazing at the village thinking about how he will never get used to the city. Aran suddenly saw something big and tall in the bushes. It was the same wendigo that was chasing him through the path. Aran quickly fell over in terror and when he got back up, the wendigo was suddenly gone in an instant. “ Oh lords,” said Aran. The wendigo rushed deep into the forests crossing through the dry trees and the murky puddles towards an abandoned camp. The abandoned camp was full of wendigos either resting or fighting each other for food. Near the big stump sat a tall wendigo with various skulls and aches full of bottles and ashes on his sides. The wendigo held a staff with a large skull. The wendigo went towards the large wendigo and shrieked “ Shouldn’t we attack the village now”. The tall Wendigo stood up and said “ We attack when the sun is dim”. They heard horses coming through the road with knights packed with weapons passing by them. The tall Wendigo screamed in the sky letting every Wendigo know that they would attack the village of Alestra.

2023.06.01 01:05 Scifiase The "survivors" mechanic from VRGR just saved my game night. Here's what I learnt.

So it happened, the last thing a DM wants to hear. "Ah shit my gf's parents are down I can't play. Sorry lads.". I preferred it when my group was single and unemployed, scheduling was easier. It was an hour before the session, and we couldn't pick up without him as I had them in the middle of a very important dungeon as of last time.
But... Their main characters were in a collapsed mineshaft, but loads of other people aren't. And while character sheets take a while to put together, VRGR has pre made ones.
So I said "Give me an hour" and session prepped like a mainiac. The map was a bunch of wooden objects from my map maker software plus some fire scattered haphazardly across some water. Monsters were the first three CR1 things with a swim speed I picked at random.
With 10 minutes to go I roped one of the players (u/WaserWifle, what a great bloke) into writing three one-sentence characters and giving each stat block a survivor talent while I set up tokens. No time for everyone to have their own ideas, you can riff off what you get given.
I had a bunch of lore for this homebrew domain they'd not really had a chance to encounter, so I put them on a freshly destroyed ship 35 years earlier which the primary party had already visited as a lost wreck. They got to uncover how it was sunk, talk with a mysterious npc, and make some terrible deals in return for their survival.
And they all died. Two were swallowed by a giant toad (CR1 my arse), one made it back to shore but had eaten so many disgusting mutagenic things in return for the powers they need to survive, that when they got back to shore they were mistaken as a Deep One and harpooned.
All in all, great session, pulled out of my arse in 60 mins.
Observations:
If you're thinking of using survivors, a few things to bear in mind:
They're weak. They will take a long time to kill a CR1 creature, and I gave them max health but didn't struggle in killing them. Sure fighting in water makes it all much harder, but still.
They're simple. Not a lot of options for utility, Spellcaster especially don't have the same problem solving punch as a lvl1 spellcasting character.
Neat in comabt. The two martials have a broadly useful bonus action that saw a lot of use, and the Spellcaster did have a good diversity in their kit (but all fire damage in underwater combat is a big nerf).
They're disposable. "Survivor" is a bit of a misnomer because killing these guys is the most fun you can have with them.

2023.06.01 00:56 A_little_quarky Hoverbike feels like cheating.

First off, I'll preface this by saying it's NOT cheating. You do you, play your way, etc.
But after getting an air bike, the game just became...trivial. All of this open world, and I'm just zooming over it.
Huge, dangerous underground depths where I struggle to find the next safe zone to light up the map. But I didn't experience any of that, I just flew to the bulbs.
It feels like I've hacked flight, which is something they were careful to restrict. Zonai Wings pop themselves after some time, and take a lot more power to move. But the bike? Cheap, maneuverable, efficient, and never breaks.
Now I'm not telling anyone how to play, but I wonder if anyone else has the same sentiment as me? I love the bike, but I'm wondering if I'm cheapening my experience by having it.

PC newly built a few months ago and no issues until a power outage yesterday.
The RGB comes on and fans spin but it just hangs with no output and no USB devices seem to be detected.
Cleared CMOS and still no luck.

Quest 2 Referral Link for Headset and Games
Quest 2: https://www.oculus.com/referrals/link/MemeSnorfe Clicking here will give you $30 USD if you are looking to get a Quest 2 very soon. Will be given after it is activated for the first time
Already activated? If it has been 7 days or less, you can follow these steps
Note that this doesn't remove any games you already bought from your library; those are linked to your Meta account. You may have to redownload them though.
Go here: https://secure.oculus.com/my/devices/
Select Delete Device Data

Then the device will take you through a few short steps that takes about 2-3 minutes.
Before reactivating your device, click on my referral link above or anyone else's referral code (please help others get referral credits as well).

Games (25% off)
Asgard's Wrath (Rift): https://www.oculus.com/appreferrals/MemeSnorfe1180401875303371/
A huge RPG game that I haven't tried myself, but heard was really good
Beat Saber (Rift): https://www.oculus.com/appreferrals/MemeSnorfe1304877726278670
A rhythm game about slicing up blocks. It is well known, and if you have the power to play PCVR, the rift version (steam works as well) is the best with the modding scene already inside
(THIS IS CROSSBUY, JUST 2 SEPERATE LINKS FOR THE QUEST AND RIFT USERS) BONELAB (Quest): https://www.oculus.com/appreferrals/MemeSnorfe4215734068529064/

A great FPS shooter game. not only will you get a game that feels like Call Of Duty VR, the built in modding community is insane, making so far Team Fortress 2 VR (TF2VR), Titanfall 2 VR (TF2VR) (no mechs), Star Wars Battlefront VR (SWBVR), and an upcoming COD Zombies VR that might overtake Pavlov's current lineup one day

Resident Evil 4 (Quest): https://www.oculus.com/appreferrals/MemeSnorfe2637179839719680/
its resident evil 4 VR, I can't say much more
Stride (Quest): https://www.oculus.com/appreferrals/MemeSnorfe4901911359882668/
A great parkour game, if you like mirrors edge, you will certainly love this. the mechanics feel so smooth that people rarely get motion sick in this game. currently it has its small single player modes and the multiplayer like zombie tag or deathmatch to name a few, but it will soon have a single player campaign called Stride Fates
SUPERHOT VR (Quest): https://www.oculus.com/appreferrals/MemeSnorfe1921533091289407/
A game that only moves when you move, relive your dreams of going slo mo and dodging bullets like the matrix

Labyrinth of Galleria: The Moon Society Review

https://preview.redd.it/n3r5stu82a3b1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=a9ff4d34bea9fe0aca10e55f0ab1317e4e80b78c
KEY NOTES
  • First Person Dungeon Crawler
  • Enemies Appear on the Map, No Random Battles
  • ENG/JP Voiced Audio
  • Battle Party consists of generics only
  • Lengthy game 90+ hours to beat
  • New Game+ available
INTRODUCTION
In 2016, Nippon Ichi Software (NIS) released the DRPG, Labyrinth of Refrain: Coven of Dusk. Despite what I believe is NIS' first attempt at a DRPG, the game was quite solid and enjoyable with an unusual heavy story focus for a DRPG. The game didn't sell many copies at first, but has since sold a decent amount. 4 years later, a sequel titled Labyrinth of Galleria: The Moon Society was released (an additional 3 more years for a western release).
STORY
Galleria's story begins with a young girl named Eureka who had just arrived at Galleria Manor. Despite being part of nobility, her family's financial situation was dire so she sought employment at Galleria Manor. The employer was an old woman named Madame Marta who was looking for someone great at "searching" for things. Marta is a witch tasked by Galleria Manor's owner to search for special treasures in a labyrinth below the manor.
The problem is that not just anybody can explore the labyrinth. Any live human will die trying to return from it. To remedy that issue, Marta summoned a Wandering Spirit using Eureka as a medium. The Wandering Spirit is able to control puppets to explore and combat the monsters in the labyrinth. Despite what Eureka had initially assumed, she now found herself helping out with the treasure search in the mysterious vast labyrinth.
https://preview.redd.it/tw901u5d2a3b1.png?width=3840&format=png&auto=webp&s=6c5419f6727e619a7fc0372f4996dafee8a52fbb
Galleria's story is unusually presented since despite spending the vast majority of game time within the labyrinth and dungeons, most of the story actually occurs in the outside world. Reaching specific checkpoints in the dungeons will trigger a new cutscene in the outside world and advance the story. You have to leave the dungeon to view the cutscenes. The cutscenes are not always directly related to the triggering checkpoints however. This creates a certain disconnect with the story and what goes on within the dungeons. This is actually something that's seen in Refrain as well although that game had notable story content in the dungeons too.
Early on, the story appears to be directionless, but all of the random story bits will converge together into intense moments as more of the mystery gets revealed. It does however start off slow since the first major story event doesn't happened until about 30 hours into the game when it goes from 0 to 100 in a span of minutes. Galleria has a number of exciting moments, but there's also a lot of mundane moments in between. It may be difficult to keep the same level of interest throughout, but it's worth pushing through for the interesting plot twists and revelations.
One aspect of Refrain's story that left a strong impression on people were the many surprising dark and disturbing moments it had. Galleria has many dark moments as well, but there aren't many that I would call disturbing. Uneasy at times, but overall, a lot more tolerable and easier to sit through in compared to Refrain. Of course, there are still humorous and comedic moments throughout to lighten the mood.
https://preview.redd.it/t3zrqn2i2a3b1.png?width=3840&format=png&auto=webp&s=c1083d5455d5d6af5c23e2de5946d34cba82e078
In comparison to the two Labyrinth games, I think Refrain had the more memorable and stronger story of the two. Especially when it came to the dungeon stories which made the overall story package more interesting. With that said, Galleria's story was still an enjoyable experience for me and some of its narrative is quite ambitious.
It's worth noting that Galleria takes place in the same universe as not only Refrain, but also the two "The Witch and the Hundred Knight" games. Fortunately, you don't need any prior knowledge of those games to understand Galleria.
CHARACTERS
Galleria has a large assortment of characters. The main core group of characters are well developed and interesting. They are also likable too for the most part which contrasts with Refrain where there's less likable characters. One issue with Galleria is that there are many side characters that don't contribute much to the plot and are just there. Then there's some more story relevant characters who don't get enough screentime to properly develop those characters.
As for Eureka, she is a lovable and kind person who despite being raised in nobility, enjoys doing household chores. She can be a bit of an airhead at times though.

The other member of the treasure seeking duo is Marta. Unlike Dronya in Refrain, Marta is quite kind to her assistant and comes off as much more likable in comparison.
Overall, nearly of the characters have layers to their characters and you won't be able to really know and understand them early on.
MUSIC
NIS Veteran Tenpei Sato returns to compose Galleria's soundtrack. The soundtrack is similar to Refrain where instead of Sato's usual bombastic style found in the Disgaea games, the songs here are more subdued. With Galleria, the only time where the soundtrack gets particularly intense are during some boss fights. While the music overall fit well with the game's tone and style and sounds nice in general, the songs don't really stick out much for me. Outside of the game, it's difficult to recall specific tracks at times.
GRAPHICS AND ART DIRECTION
The graphics and artstyle in Galleria haven't changed much from Refrain. The character portraits during the Visual Novel style cutscenes are nice to look at and come with various different expressions. The backgrounds are surprisingly beautiful and detailed at times. The dungeons don't really stand out much and the textures are not very detailed, but the issues weren't very noticeable for me most of the time.
The monsters in the dungeons have good variety and not only do their models look good, they have decent animation during battle as well. Being a DRPG, the animations aren't anything sophisticated, but the idle movements look great compared to other DRPGs where the enemy sprites are static or in the case of 3D models, just don't look all that great.
Overall, Galleria is one of the most beautiful looking DRPG I've seen.
GAMEPLAY
Other than the notable story emphasis, Galleria shines with its gameplay. The gameplay loop with the dungeon exploration is fun. The battles are solid and and there's a deep layer of customization.
DUNGEON EXPLORATION
Galleria has seen a few changes and additions to dungeon exploration compared to Refrain. Before, there weren't many dungeon exploration option or mechanics to deal with. Falling off a ledge is as bad as it gets there, but that is easily avoidable. Poison floors make up the other major obstacle and trap. Galleria now has invisible floor panels, pitfalls, underwater traversal, long distance jumping, fake walls, swamp water and something like an enclosed miasma space.
The game gives you options to deal with all of them making the dungeon traversal more interesting and keeping it from being annoying and frustrating compared to some other DRPGs out there. One new good dungeon skill is the Fog cloak that not only negates swamp water damage, but also makes you invisible to enemies for a set amount of turns. Many of the dungeon skills are unlocked at various points of the story and requires mana to actually purchase the abilities in the Witch Petitions.

In regards to enemies, they appear as floating giant eyeballs on the screen called Enemy Symbols. Touching them will trigger a battle so there's no random battles in the game. The Purple eyeballs are the powerful monsters that roam the area. They are generally best avoided until later in the game. The Enemy Symbols move as you move like a turn based scenario. With such a system, you can plan and avoid certain Enemy Symbols by doing some simple calculations.
Avoiding the normal red symbols can be difficult at times due to their random movements, but purple symbols move in an orderly way so they can be easily avoided
The wall break ability returns in Galleria which allows you to break down most walls and open up new paths or create shortcuts. It's a unique mechanic that I don't recall ever seeing in another DRPG before or at least as commonly used here. The wall break ability and other dungeon abilities make use of Reinforce Points. The starting value is 100 when you dive into a dungeon, but gets deducted base on your current Pact points (more on this later). Reinforce is an important resource not just for exploration, but also provides various benefits during combat. You can acquire more Reinforce Points by finding mana bubbles and mana stuck on walls.
With the exception of walls with the \"red\" symbol, broken walls will be fixed to normal once you leave the dungeon
The dungeon structures are well crafted like a puzzle. There are floors with many staircases that connect to various parts of the dungeons. Oftentimes, exploring the dungeons is not straightforward and requires careful thinking on how to proceed. Jumping down pitfalls (and taking damage) might sometimes be needed to reach new areas. Although, there are also more straightforward parts to them.
One of the more simpler dungeon floors in the game
Overall, the dungeon exploration and the structure of the dungeons are very good and are decently large in size. That said, I do find myself missing the thematic dungeons that Refrain had. Each dungeon felt like a completely new world populated with actual characters at times so they felt more interesting compared to Galleria's dungeons which felt more in-line as a single dungeon. The designs are less visually appealing in comparison. The dungeons in Galleria also lack notable story events too.
New to Galleria are the randomly generated dungeons. There's a few of these in the game and they are all pretty similar to each other. Each floor is small in scale compared to the static dungeons, but they do make progressing much easier. The goal is to reach the staircase to the next floor and finding them isn't nearly as complicated as progressing in the other dungeons. This makes the experience not as interesting, but these dungeons are great if you just want to farm for new equipment and going through areas that are a bit more dynamic than static dungeons.
CUSTOMIZATION
Galleria has a surprisingly large amount of customization for the puppet party members. The customization options during creation includes, voice options, character portraits, the dominant hand, lucky number, favorite item, personality trait, stat growth to emphasize primary stats or a more balance growth, and a general stance to emphasize more power in place of defense and health. You can also pick a learnable starting skill right off the bat too. The options that don't affect stats directly tend to play a role in resonating with your other characters during battle.
https://preview.redd.it/qsck1ktr3a3b1.png?width=3840&format=png&auto=webp&s=a235e05152bb7e4df77f1353610e3be28cbe9443
There are a decent amount of classes (Facets) in the game totaling twelve. All of them have Alternate Facets that are similar at its core, but have different skills, stat growths and weapon proficiencies which makes the total amount of classes much more than just twelve.
With the exception of the 4 special Facets, each Facet has a female counterpart in the bottom row
One of Galleria and even Refrain's standout mechanic are the very large party size. The battle party (Brigade) consists of up to five Covens which are sort of like small squads. Each Coven can fit up to three attackers during battle and up to five more in the support slots. Those in the support slots don't normally actively participate in battle (other than followup attacks), but they do provide various passive effects to the Coven's attackers. Some support slots have passive effects just for filling the slot while other times, a character might have a "support skill" that is in effect only as a supporter role. Therefore, you can manage up to 40 characters to provide some use during battles. For those that like to manage a large amount of characters, this is a rare treat.
https://preview.redd.it/zhw8l3r34a3b1.png?width=3840&format=png&auto=webp&s=7ca8ffda5382e4128407c528540fe72b0b865e2c
Unfortunately, you can't just start adding 40 characters to the brigade right away. The number of open slots for both attackers and supports depends on the Pact. Before you can add any characters to a Coven, it needs a specific Pact item which provides the number of open slots, the Donum (spells) available for it and the various stat and effect bonuses each slot has. Having a full 40 character brigade won't be available until much later in the game. A Coven's maxed DP (Donum Points) is based on the combined attackers' maxed DP in the Coven.
A full powered Brigade
As developers of Disgaea, it wasn't any surprise that NIS added extensive leveling and grinding mechanics. While the max level is technically 99, you can transfer a puppet's soul and reincarnate them into another puppet body. Their level resets back to 1 when that happens, but they will gain more stats on level up than before. The amount of stats gained are determined by their "Soul Clarity". Soul transfers will increase the Soul Clarity amount and the amount increase is depended on the puppet's level when it did the transfer. It doesn't mean that the game is as grindy either. I rarely "grinded" when completing "everything" in the game.
https://preview.redd.it/1z1pw8ig4a3b1.png?width=3840&format=png&auto=webp&s=0c2c03a771f409e7dec4c7c573813e4fb2f3d28f
Skill inheriting is a bit different than in Refrain. For Galleria, puppets keep all of the skills they learn, but only a certain number of them can be turned on depending on the skill cost. This allows for easier creation of builds by carrying over all of the skills you have learned. Turning each skill off and on is simply done in the camp menu.
It's important to note that skills are mostly passive ones. Only a few characters learn Donum spells which are otherwise only available based on the Pact you have equipped.
COMBAT
Like many DRPGs, the combat system is a turn based one. Despite the possible 15 attackers available during battles, you don't issue individual commands to each member normally. You only issue commands to each Coven so that one command will apply to all of the attackers in the Coven. You can however give orders to individuals for one turn by spending one Reinforce point which opens up additional options such as item usage and equipment change.
https://preview.redd.it/hn4nt0fl4a3b1.png?width=3840&format=png&auto=webp&s=b3c3d1717d57773086e0aaac3d15046de9930442
The battle sequence doesn't start until all commands are given. When that happens, your characters and the enemies' turns are queued together with the fastest characters/enemies acting first.
https://preview.redd.it/vcv9c7bo4a3b1.png?width=3840&format=png&auto=webp&s=e383241ebc72b52ec2a27bd39558e14e5ca75462
Both characters and enemies have a stun gauge which if depleted, they will be unable to act for one turn. The Special Gore Hits return which are like super critical damages. Gore Hits on the party members mean a body part is destroyed thus rendering the equipment on that part null. If you were very unfortunate that the head is destroyed, the puppet is permanently KO'd until you repair them back in the outside world.
New to Galleria are the Liberation gauge and skills. Each Coven has a Liberation gauge that fills up during battle from attacking and receiving damage. Once it is completely filled, the Coven has accessed to the Liberation skill that is based on the Pact. The skills are varied and includes an attack that damages a whole group of enemies, stat buffs or healing.
On the Normal difficulty, many battles aren't difficult so auto battle can clear the majority of fights. That's assuming that party members' equipment and stats are at least up to speed. Bosses and also the Purple Powerful Enemies will be more challenging so that it requires more player attention and the use of buffs/debuffs.
FINAL REMARKS
Labyrinth of Galleria is a solid followup to Labyrinth of Refrain and improved on the gameplay in many ways. There are more dungeon mechanics, more Facets to use, and an easier to use skill inheritance system. While the story and the lack of story in dungeons aren't as strong as Refrain, it is still had an enjoyable one with many twists and turns. Galleria does benefit on having more likable characters as well.
While there is an emphasis on the story, the vast majority of the game time is spent going through dungeons.
Combat is on the easy side for most of the game, but some bosses can be quite challenging.
Galleria overall is a very lengthy game that can take more than 90 hours just to complete all of the story and is rich in content. The random generated dungeons can add more game time for those that just want to farm for good equipment.
For those new to the Labyrinth games, Galleria is a good starting place considering that the connections with Refrain are very minor for the most part.

MAP

A view towards the hills separating Xanthea and Tritonea from the great eastern valley

Around 250 After Dawn, Xanthea suffered a series of bad droughts. The spring desert/steppe pastures did not have the grass to support their livestock and pastoralist clans that could not secure areas to graze in the upper Rujavanti (Luzum) valley were forced to find other pasturage, which they found to the east. Over the hills that make up the spine of Horea lay another long broad valley with a large river meandering across the floodplain. The climate was still semi-arid, though wetter than to the west, and the valley floor was a patchwork of oak/ponderosa savanna and stands of broadleaf forest rising into hills of ponderosa pine and then spruce-fir forest along the mountain front. The Yélu found this valley to be rich pasturage for their horses and bison, abundant with wild animals, and good farmland.

The valley was inhabited by groups of horticulturalist-hunters who spoke a Tritonean language. While there was conflict in the ensuing years between Yélu migrants and the indigenous peoples, often both groups recognized that peaceful trading relationships could be highly profitable. The local tribes recognized that having access to wool, dairy, and other livestock products was highly valuable, while the pastoralists could trade for crops.

Yélu pastoralists, traders, and raiders had been crossing into this valley for centuries at this point, but the influx during the drought prompted clans to stay in the valley and winter there, digging and constructing pit homes against the cold. To the west, the drought worsened and minor tributaries of the great rivers dried up, leaving the fields of sorghum to die. Some agrarian communities whose lands were parched heard of the broad valley to the east and migrated there, forming agrarian communities and intermarrying with the locals. These pastures were more consistently lush than those in the prairies and deserts to the west, necessitating less seasonal migration to maintain a herd of the same size. This led to pastoralist and agrarian communities becoming more intertwined and mixed.

Over the ensuing centuries, the indigenous groups to the valley assimilated into Yélu culture, considering themselves to be Yélu and switching to mostly speaking a distinct Yélu dialect. They brought with them several of their deities into the Yélu pantheon: most notably several deities and festivals associated with local crops and landscape features.

The agricultural landscape eventually would look like upland zizania (not diffused yet, but setting up description for the future) grown along the river floodplain with sorghum, chia, and sunroot grown on the well drained soils to either side. Animals are grazed in pasturage on the valley floor and in the hills above. It was in this great valley that the water bison stolen and traded for from the lowland were bred to thrive in the drier and colder conditions of the hills. These upland bison were a great addition to herds, providing dairy, meat, skins/other animal products, and hardy pack animals.

2023.05.31 23:43 TheRealJohnMara What's your strategy to beat chimps on harder maps?

I usually put down in this order:
Sauda (early for regular bloons and camo)
1-3-0 Druid (early for regular bloons and leads)
4-2-0 Monkey Village (in range of the Sauda and Druid)
Then inside the Monkey Village range is where I get my moneys worth with a bunch of primary monkeys such as moab maulers, tack shooters (if there are bends) and either glaive boomerangs or moab press boomerangs. All getting free tier 1 upgrades/extra popping poweextra range from the Monkey Village
2-0-4 Ninja Monkey (later for moabs). Separate question...Do the mines stack or will only 1 mine stick on a moab at a time?
2-0-4 Snipers (later for moabs)

This usually gets me through hard/chimps on easier maps, but I don't think it will hold up on harder maps.
