What is the difference between mental/intellectual disability and just being "stupid"?
2023.06.01 01:06 Lavnets What is the difference between mental/intellectual disability and just being "stupid"?
Is there a clear difference between people who are just a lot stupider than majority of people who may have trouble managing because of it, but lack characteristics from things like down syndrome, severe autism, brain damage, chromosome mutations etc? Can someone be just intellectually challenged without there being a clear cause and how does society handle this?

2023.06.01 00:45 Pleasant_Ad4296 Was answering a question about solo money on another post, they said they just cant make wnough money for things. This is wayy not all I could have exampled but I took the solo part into consideration. Take it for what you will.
Step 1, get Acid lab and upgrade it. Need to do stupid dax missions for upgrade. Step 2, use it as much as possible to get max payments per hour. 300k ish for a full load. Can call mut on phone to resupply when not indoors, no need to go anywhere, and can call in acid lab from interaction menu to anywhere. You can get an idea of how much you have to sell if you pay attention to your stock when you leave your bars and how much it costs to resupply.
Step 3, have 3-5 cars you care about,, super, bike/tuner, one armored. Sell rest of cars if u make money from it. You will be able to buy 50 of each eventually.
Get nightclub and biker businesses, link them. Not forgery office or green house. Then Forget the biker bizs, stock is separate from nightclub stock. Sell acid lab and night club regularly and spend money on 3 things if you have no properties that have them to get. Bullets, armour, and snacks (Health) .
You'll be a millionaire in a month or less.
Source: me, bad at the game and brain damaged. I make 50k on accident regular at this point.
I haven't even finished cayo once yet have had sub forever.
Save a lot, grind money a lot, look up what to invest in (first) that suits how you play. And have fun. 🤝👍

2023.06.01 00:38 cleanyourroomplease Quantifying Caregiver Hours
Hi all,
Any pointers about how to quantify caregiver hours? I have a child who, from 5-18 months, required basically around-the-clock care. (5-12 months, medications 3-5x a day, blood sugar checks 12-18 times a day, frequent feeding to prevent hypoglycemic emergencies). It is less now (thank you Dexcom, cornstarch, and Solcarb) and mostly consists of feeding pump times, hospitalizations, physicians visits.
We've had 50 days inpatient. I have worked alongside multiple specialties, speech therapists for feeding difficulty, social work, etc.
I just don't really know how to quantify it. I feel like it's at least a thousand hours because there was a point in time where it really was "if I don't feed you every <2 hours, you have brain damage and/or die".
Any ideas?

2023.06.01 00:38 Perfect-Pin4693 Sad post :(
I love meth. It makes me be productive, clean, draw, do school, dance, for hours and hours happily. I feel like I can do anything and take on the world. Music is the best thing. I go out and make money. I love love love it and the feeling it gives uu... It feels so amazing even just sitting on the floor feeling like heaven. It feels like no problems matter and I can fix them all. There are bad things but if you take breaks and don't stay up for days it stays cool. I'm so scared I'm going to loose my teeth, looks, mind, and life. I had a crippling addiction to Benadryl a while ago that destroyed my life and it wasn't close to as good as this shit. I have seen my dad before he was a meth addict and got hella brain damage no teeth and is the most unlikable person I know. If I brush my teeth and don't overdose and eat will I be fine? Will it destroy my brain and make me a dumbass? Will I be super ugly and skinny? I'm having a panic attack rn

2023.06.01 00:37 OGDounutSteel Markiplier's Five Nights at Freddy's and Pink Floyd's Dark Side of The Moon sync
I don't know who else to turn to but to Reddit but I think it's about time to discuss my findings because I've only been sharing it with a small select group of friends. It is just super trippy to a point where I highly recommend you try this for yourself and it's like the stars just connected with one another just to bring this happen, I won't spoil anything because it matches so damn well but here are a few highlights.
- Immediately at the end of the call on the first night On The Run plays
- If you turn on captions during the first play of Money, it glitches displaying money. The second play is when Markipler gets his paycheck for completing the five nights with the beat starting when the beat starts when he realizes that there's another night
- The laugh of Brain Damage corresponds to Night 5's phone call when the animatronics are just taunting Markiplier, once Brain Damage starts it's just the title screen of Freddys staring at you.
- The second play of Time has its alarm bells play when you know Foxy is out of Pirate's Cove
If you want to replicate my findings, immediately start the album when you start watching the video. Keep replaying it over and over until the let's play are over, feel free to discuss other findings here.

2023.06.01 00:27 paradiselostttt Fired for placing too many HR complaints
A lot has gone wrong in my life the last month and I’m still like filtering the events day by day. I come here because I just need to vent and feel like I’m in a space where maybe like minded individuals as myself can maybe relate or at least give me some advice on how to get some closure. I was fired without any paperwork a month ago as of today. I was working for a retail company for some time and from the first encounter with the GM through out the interview process I could tell I wasn’t being hired so enthusiastically for my resume but you know, first I needed a job that wasn’t going to pay me to run a company for the minimum wage in Florida and aside from him I felt confident in the role I met the qualifications for. Anywho, within the first WEEK of employment the inappropriate messages slithered in to the point I asked him to please stop communicating outside of business hours for non work related reasons. After some drastic cold shouldering I thought we had just had a misstep and were on the way to a better start/ transition to a work place environment. Haha, so after trudging my feet through some very uncomfortable instances I literally would get so much anxiety just going to work. I decided I need to pull the plug and see if I can transfer after submitting my first batch of complaints everything was met with “ he was joking” and not even a warning to his file. After again the same process, cold shouldering but also now actively making me feel unwelcome. For reference I was ASM, so people would be switched off or plan updates wouldn’t include me. He would give updates to the staff and I was left completely confused and then reprimanded by not meeting goals he set out for the store without even consulting me. Luckily, to my belief I had proof he didn’t include me but funny enough, district manager concluded that I was still expected to ask questions and go above and beyond for my team and made sure HE Felt comfortable being able to include me in conversations about the workplace. As I type this my Brain floods with so many different emotions and thoughts; still very recent. So I don’t get sidetracked I filled two more instances and on the third the district manager randomly showed up one day with a different store manager as a witness and fired me for making the staff uncomfortable and causing drift in the work place. After all the moments of frustration and fear and just being uncomfortable, never big moments just a bunch of clusters of small moments like putting his hand of my knee or going through the isles I’m down stocking or on truck day that I’m placing for the employees to do totes he would brush up against me or reaching for my manager keys (he has his own) I had like a lanyard on my keys I always had in my back pocket and he “accidentally” touched my butt trying to get keys he has attached to his own neck. Or when I’m helping with the damages of the store and he’ll go to the dumpster to “help” me by getting too close. So many moment that I had to swallow because I felt as a trans woman I didn’t want to be in a new workplace and cause trouble or just be problematic or whatever insecurity I have getting jobs with no degree in Florida and trying to ride the wave I’m in all for a check to keep a roof over my head. All this to be terminated. Big companies don’t care about facts, they value who keeps their numbers up and seniority. 😓😪 thank you for reading

2023.05.31 23:45 MediocreGenius69 ART THE CLOWN VULNERABILITY/FUTURE OF TERRIFIER - (Some spoilers from Terrifier 1 & 2)
When Terrifier 2 came out there was a lot of speculation about who Art the Clown was, including the theory he was Sienna and Jonathan's father. Well, we know that's not true because the Shaw kids' dad died in a car crash, whereas Art - still a mortal human serial killer at the time - perished in a different way at the end of the first Terrifier film. Therefore, they are not the same person. What we DO know is that before the Shaw patriarch died he had visions of a twisted killer clown that showed up in his artwork. We also know that Art was resurrected at the beginning of Terrifier 2 and is now no longer a mere human presence, having become able to regenerate skull and brain tissue, allowing him to recover from the injuries sustained by his suicide in the first film. The entity that brought Art back seems to be embodied by The Little Pale Girl, a young child in the same make-up as Art, presumably to gain his trust. The Little Pale Girl is (and I think the director may have confirmed this) a demon who has taken the form of Art's first victim, a child he killed when still human at the 'Terrifier' ride at the Miles County fairground. The exact details as to why this demon brought back Art, why the Shaw kids' dad saw Art coming, why the Shaw kids can also see The Little Pale Girl and what properties are possessed by the magic sword left to Sienna by her father are still shrouded in mystery and will likely be explained by the third series instalment, which is currently in pre-production and will be released in late 2024.
So I can only speculate on the mythology and background of the story itself, as well as the significance of its specific elements, but I do have a theory as to how Art will ultimately be killed. It seems that no normal wound will despatch him, and neither will damage inflicted by the magic sword. Sienna goes so far as to decapitate Art at the end of Terrifier 2, with the sword, and he is simply reborn. This will keep happening, no matter how Art is finished off. That's because he will always be resurrected by the demon. My theory is the way to kill Art is to kill the demon, and that is must be done with the magic sword. That's why Sienna's father left her the weapon. You might ask why he didn't also leave her explicit instructions but this fact might be charitably excused by the fact that he was ill and irrational. The only people who can see The Little Pale Girl are the Shaw kids so it has to be one of them that wields the sword, taking out The Little Pale Girl. Until the Shaw kids realise this and then get the chance to do it, the series will continue and Art's body count will rack up. If any has any different ideas, please let me know.
ANOTHER THOUGHT: It's possible that Sienna and Jonathan's father played some role in bringing Art back by summoning the demon through his art. That wouldn't explain the clown's name actually being Art as I believe the slasher was called that in the first film, but the link between the name Art and the word 'artwork' might be a hint by the director that Sienna's dad helped manifest, through the fantasy life in his artwork, the clown's reappearance after his gunshot suicide in the first Terrifier. I may be overthinking this part, though.

2023.05.31 23:29 glennchan REAP auto-antibody panel (research-level test from Yale university)
Some PSSD patients report no feeling in their genital area. One possibility is that this is being caused by damage to nerve fibers, which can be detected with a biopsy (or possibly CCM). That's what David Healy talks about in
his recruitment post for a CCM study.
Another possibility is that the body is attacking its own tissue
and auto-antibodies are involved. It's like your body is engaging in friendly fire on your body's own tissues. Auto-antibodies are antibodies that stick to antigens on your cells, which is not what you want.
Some people believe that TS-HDS and FGFR3 are auto-antibodies that are associated with small fiber neuropathy.
There is some controversy in the scientific literature about this. Setting the scientific uncertainty aside, there are commercial tests available. WUSTL and CellTrend offer antibody tests. See
https://www.longhaulwiki.com/index.php/Emerging_autoantibody_lab_tests Right now they don't seem to be offering TS-HDS.
REAP
Instead of only looking for a few antibodies like TS-HDS and FGFR3, the REAP test allows researchers to look for auto-antibodies against
thousands of proteins that the body makes. This is what Aaron Ring's lab at Yale is doing.
This approach has been used to study Long COVID. Unfortunately Long COVID doesn't seem to be driven by auto-antibodies.
The REAP panel was also used to study post-vaccination myocarditis. Again, it doesn't seem to be driven by auto-antibodies.
How this can be useful for PSSD research
If patients are meeting the clinical criteria for a SFN diagnosis, then it may be worthwhile to look for auto-antibodies that may be responsible for SFN. It may find auto-antibodies against proteins in the brain such as NMDA and others, if there is some type of autoimmune phenomenon happening in the brain. Those auto-antibodies could be responsible for other symptoms.
(*Yes, I just provided examples where auto-antibodies don't seem to be the cause of Long COVID and post-vaccination myocarditis, which has partial overlap with PSSD in terms of visual snow, derealization, etc.)

2023.05.31 23:27 SagePhoenix143 Straight to letter of intent/demand, or attempt a dialogue?
Hello and thanks for giving this the time in reading it! I am unsure as to the best route to take in the best way to begin this process with my (ex) commercial landlord (Florida). It is quite a doozy of a situation but I am needing to take said landlord to court ( as per lease agreement, dispute resolution is to be county or circuit court, albeit he broke that lease agreement). The totality would be breech of contract, damages (flooded due to roof leaks unattended to properly - and didn’t have liability insurance or any insurance coverage on the roof ir dwelling - lease specifically notes this to be covered by him) as well as contractual interference, and defamation. My last interaction with him ended in him giving me his general business attorney info to call - to which the attorney basically said - he’s not retained as such - will handle it when he is - … so .. do I go straight to a letter of intent or should I, am I expected to reach out in attempt to negotiate resolution before the letter of intent ?

2023.05.31 23:26 Sophisticatedonkey Might Stop watching Quin for while
While I enjoy him with his dog dick takes, I can't stand all the Veganism going on in chat, everyone sucking each other off all the time with hate boners for Diablo 4.
Quin constantly comparing d4 to d3, which Kripp, asmongold and literally anyone that has a brain can see that it isn't.
Just the overly negative outlook is probably why most of you cunts can't enjoy games anymore.
Poe has jaded you all into little brats that complain over anything and everything, Jesus fuck go to the gym and make some IRL friends, get a life, stop being jaded over literally everything.
"Dude quin and his chat is all MEME's don't take it seriously" - most brain-dead shit I have ever read.
Quin if you read this you know it's funny when you read "I JUST TAKE THE LEGENDARY AND PUT IT ON MY SLOT, JUST LIKE D3, bla bla bla" you sound like a literal retard.
You do know you can do the same with POE, right? "I pick the damage node on the tree look at me, I pick the life node on the tree I'm so smart and cool, ow look I put on the support gem to do 2x damage WOW I'm so smart look at me (in a retarded clown voice)" literally brain-dead.
People actually think you are smart, ROFL. Keep going that scion life wheel moron.
I am going to chill in Zacks chat, at least he can see the positives in the game and doesn't act like a total moronic retard every time he talks about gear, skills, etc.
(don't take this seriously, it's just a meme, ok Retards?)

2023.05.31 23:20 alioskion I'm scared to out myself at work
I have to get this off my chest in hopes of getting some sleep tonight.
I've been coming to terms with being trans over the last couple of months and I've outed myself to basically everyone that matters. In my private life I've been living as myself for the last months now but I haven't outed myself at work yet and tomorrow is THE DAY.
To sum up a long story: I have a meeting with my boss (board member of the company) tomorrow about a different personal matter and I've decided to just get it over with when she's already there. I'm hoping that she can help me make a plan to out myself to the rest of the company cause there are A LOT of people I correspond with on a daily basis that would need to know. So it's a big and fucking scary task and I'm high-key freaking the fuck out rn.
I love my job and I am incredibly scared that outing myself will lead to interpersonal problems. As I said, I work with a shit ton of people but mostly via mail or phone. So I know them but not at all on a personal level and I don't have a single clue how they will react. My mathematical brain keeps focusing on the high chance that at least someone will have a problem with it and will cause problems. And my social anxiety keeps reminding me that I'll probably have to constantly correct people for using the wrong pronouns. And my already over-exhausted ADHD brain is already crying at the thought of even more unnecessary stress at work.
I honestly just want to chicken out of my plan but I know that it'll do more damage than good in the long run. I try to remind myself constantly that I'm doing this so that I can medically transition as soon as possible with the help of my health insurance. But nothing calms me down and I just want to bury myself in my bed and cry.
rn is the very first moment where I truly and deeply hate being trans. I don't know what I did to deserve this emotional distress and trouble of having to do this just so that I'm able to live as myself

2023.05.31 23:14 Kostya93 Lion's Mane in Neurodegenerative Diseases: From Bench to Bedside and Beyond, How Far from the Shoreline (Meta-review May 2023)
The mass of scientific data reported leaves no doubt about the nootropic properties of Lion's Mane (H. erinaceus).
It also clearly appears that different nootropic substances are present in both the H. erinaceus mycelium and sporophore (fruiting body).
The pharmacologically active ingredients, as well as the mode of action, require further in-depth clinical investigation.
Erinacine A contained within the mycelium is one of the key components responsible for the H. erinaceus nootropic effects, as confirmed both in vitro, as well as in preclinical investigations in vivo. Moreover, fruiting body extracts were proven to possess nootropic or neuroprotective power, too.
In the reported pilot clinical studies, sporophore oral consumption was checked as a beneficial food, revealing an improvement of specific cognitive functions.
To increase the array of nootropic substances even more, the free radical scavenger and cytoprotective powerful antioxidant ERGO, contained in both the mycelium and sporophore, attenuates oxidative stress and nitrosamine damage in an injured or aging brain.
More intriguingly, we want to underline that following H. erinaceus intervention, on top of the improved pathological phenotype consistently evidenced in clinical trials, the downstream molecular pathway responsible for the phenotypic rescue involves, as evidenced in vitro and in preclinical studies, the NGF and BDNF.
However, we highlight the urgent need for additional in-depth clinical studies to clarify the mode of action by which H. erinaceus compounds are able to promote functional neurophysiological recovery in human, and assess the link between H. erinaceus, microbiota, and cognition in more detail.

2023.05.31 22:53 Demanding7632 How to taper off 0.25 klonopin?
I am using klonopin from last 4 months. First month with 0.25 mg klonopin+3 mg melatonin, then for 2 months 5mg melatonin+0.50 mg klonopin, then 15 days 0.25mg+3 mg melatonin, I am taking 0.25mg klonopin+3 mg melatonin of alternate days from last week and having no issues with it till now. All doses were one time a day at night.
Can, I cold turkey it after few days? It is safe to do so. Also, what about any permanent damage on my brain from it?
I was prescribed due to chronic insomnia, I am feeling very good and sharp on the days I am not taking these drugs, maybe it can be placebo.

2023.05.31 22:51 AslandusTheLaster Lawrence Knight and the Holy Order of the Purging Light
Original prompt: [WP] You're a holy knight who can see when something has good intentions. This is causing you great confusion when you meet a demon you've been sent to kill. (
link)
Lawrence Knight descended the staircase slowly. He had no doubt, his quarry was here. Strangely, the levels of malignancy were far lower than expected, especially given who he was hunting. The demon, classified as a Schemer, had apparently been around for a while and been behind a fair few Fallen-folk.
As he reached the end of the stairs, there was only one door. A final look through the darkened lenses of his morality specs showed exactly one evil person in the next room. No doubt the demon was plotting on tricking some poor innocent person into selling their soul. Schemers could be quite conniving when given a chance to think, so Lawrence had to strike fast and hard.
Lawrence pulled a stick of incense out of the pocket of his suit, holding it between his lips and lighting it to ward off mental incursions. Then he brandished his pistol. The handle was emblazoned with a silver cross, and the words "Psalm 23:4" were engraved into the outside of the barrel. Saying a final prayer under his breath, the knight kicked in the door, pointing and firing his gun directly at the evil he'd scoped out through his specs.
Sitting behind a desk was a six foot three, red-skinned man with a pair of curled horns coming out of his head. That man was not the one who got shot, Lawrence instead hitting the young man sitting across from him.
"Tim! No!" The horned man said as his client collapsed to the ground. Despite his monstrous appearance, the specs didn't show even a flash of ill intent.
"Hold fast, beast," Lawrence said. In a flash, he whipped what appeared to be a silver snap bracelet out of his jacket, flinging it at the demon.
The horned man held up his arms defensively, and the bracelet easily latched on. He whimpered slightly as the silver paralyzed him, leaving the demonic figure propped at an uncomfortable angle in his chair while obviously panicking within his own head.
"Well, this is a grand mess. You should still be able to talk... Once you stop hyperventilating," Lawrence said, running a hand through his snow-white hair.
The demon made a visible effort to control its breathing and calm down, before speaking again, "Who are you? What do you want?"
"I'm an agent of the Holy Order of the Purging Light. We destroy the unholy, the infernal, and the malign. Unfortunately for you, you are... at least one of those," Lawrence said, pulling down the darkened lenses of his glasses to glare at the demon with his glowing gold eyes.
"What? But I just make people's wishes come true! I'm doing good!" the demon said.
Lawrence sighed. He hated having to put down targets if they didn't even know why, but he also knew it was dangerous to play around with Schemers. After a moment, he said, "In accordance with our creed, you are a corrupting influence on this world, and a danger to any and all clients you have encountered. Think of what damage they have wrought, and the suffering they have endured that they never would have felt if they'd never met you."
"B-but they all seemed like they needed help! Like that lady who just needed a bunch of money! Or this kid who just wanted a girl to like him!" the demon said.
"'That' lady? Do you, perchance, mean this lady?" Lawrence asked, pulling out his cell phone and opening up pictures of a woman he'd encountered in a previous mission.
"That's her! Ruby's a sweetheart, she definitely wouldn't cause any mischief," the demon said.
Lawrence began flipping through the pictures. Early photos depicted her wearing a fancy coat and clearly having a good time with what seemed like some friends. A few photos later showed her screaming at employees working at the club she was visiting. Eventually he reached the more unpleasant pictures, with her beating people with a cane. Though the photos didn't show who, the knight specifically remembered they were the same people she'd been hanging out with earlier, and at least one of them had ended up in the hospital. They might not have survived if he hadn't intervened, but he switched off the screen on his phone before reaching the photos confirming the Fallen woman's death.
"What- But she seemed so sad..." the demon said.
"And I don't know about this young man..." Lawrence said, digging through the pockets of the client whose brains he had blown out. He managed to find the boy's phone, which didn't have any sort of lock to keep him out. "Ah, how lucky."
He began invading the boy's privacy, and found a series of photos that were presumably the young woman. Given the context and angles of the photos, it appeared the young man had been stalking his object of affections, and the photos appeared to go back several months. More disturbingly, several of them were of the young woman at home, and there were many that were clearly cropped to remove some other person that had seemingly been in the frame with her, and from the way she seemed to lean on them they were most likely a romantic partner. The Knight was confident that his specs didn't make mistakes, but killing humans was always messy business, so it was good to get confirmation.
"Does this look like a healthy, wholesome relationship in the making?" Lawrence asked, showing the demon the photos.
"I... Uh..." the demon said.
"I could bring up the other five people we know of that you've empowered, or the dozens of others you've probably made deals with that we don't know about, but I think this has gone far enough. Goodnight, Schemer," Lawrence said, pointing his gun at the demon's forehead.
"Wait! No! If you do that I'll be sent back to hell as a normal, mortal soul!" the demon said. "No second chances, no special privileges for being a demon! Just torment! Please, let me help fix this!"
Lawrence pulled back his pistol, and let out another sigh. He was a Knight of the Purging light, but they were a christian order. He couldn't very well kill someone seeking redemption, and his morality specs did tell him that the demon was earnest in his desire to help... Even if he clearly wasn't the brightest light on the tree.
Still, he didn't have the supplies for a banishment, nor any way to ensure the demon would actually do any due diligence... No, there was only one way it could work, and he needed authorization for it. Lawrence went over to his contact list and made a call. The signal was surprisingly decent considering he was in a basement.
"Lawrence? Is this an emergency? You know the rules about calling while on a mission," asked the voice of Sophia Knight. Though they were not literal siblings, joining the order involved giving up your born name to be reborn as a Knight.
"My holy power is active and I've still got an hour left on this incense stick, Sister, I'd be as shocked as you if I'm being influenced. However, I've got a... potential redemption in the making," Lawrence said.
"Hm... Iffy business, especially since your target is a Schemer," Sophia said. "But you know the risks and the protocol. Plus, I trust your judgement. You're authorized for purified containment."
"Thank you, Sister," Lawrence said, being careful not to say her name in front of the demon. It never hurt to be careful. "Good news, Schemer, I've been cleared to keep you alive."
"Really? Then can you take this armband off me?" the demon asked.
"Soon," I said. "First I need your name."
The demon's eyes widened with surprise and he said, "What? But if I give you my name, then-"
"Then I will have power over you, yes," Lawrence said. "I'm well aware of what I'm asking."
"This doesn't sound like forgiveness," the demon said.
"That's because it's not. You're an aberration, a corruption on this world. Your very nature means that you cannot help but cause destruction, and it is my job to eradicate you. I am offering you an alternative, to live on inside a talisman that I will seal you in, which will prevent you from damaging the world further than you already have, and hopefully give you the chance to set things right," Lawrence said. "The old 'deal with the devil' doesn't feel great from other side, does it?"
The demon paused for a moment before saying, "Can you at least-"
"No, I'll tell you my name when you are safely sealed away. Not a moment before," Lawrence said. He held his pistol up, pointing it at the demon's head. "If it's too much to ask, we can always do this the standard way."
"Syritsil," the demon said.
"Thank you, Syritsil," Lawrence said. He quickly checked his pockets for something he could use as a talisman... And swore under his breath.
The only things he had were a phone, a wallet, a set of car keys and a locket. The phone was out of the question, far too much the demon could get up to with an internet connection. The wallet was an option, but far too plain to be a useful one. Too easy to lose it or have it stolen, and there wasn't really any way to keep Syritsil as an asset if he couldn't communicate. The keys would just be stupid, the deformation from being possessed would make them useless and Lawrence did have to drive home.
That left the locket. Inside was a picture of Lawrence's brother, the one who'd Fallen after meeting with a demon. He definitely didn't want to risk it, the potential of losing the one last connection he had with his old life was an upsetting one, but it was objectively the best talisman. The silver body of the locket had even been engraved with holy symbols already, which would drastically improve how well it contained the corruption.
Lawrence sighed before taking out the locket and pressing it against Syritsil's head, right between his horns.
"Syritsil. From the powers down below, did you rise into our world. By the powers up above, would you be purged from it... But by the powers vested in me, you will be sealed away. From this day forward, you will cause no trouble, harm no mortals, and stake no claims, lest your soul be forfeit. You will reside within this talisman, and only within the talisman may your power manifest. So says I," Lawrence said.
"And I agree," Syitsil said. Immediately, the demon disappeared in a puff of smoke, and the silver bracelet fell to the floor.
Lawrence popped open the locket to check... Yes, the picture of his brother was still intact. However, Syritsil was now standing next to his brother within the frame, posing with an arm over his shoulder and throwing up a peace sign.
"Well, that's done. Can you hear me?" Lawrence asked.
"As well as could be expected," Syritsil said. "So what's first on the agenda?"
"First we need to check back in with base, and you need to share as much as you remember about your clients... Oh, and before I forget: the name's Lawrence. Nice to meet you," the knight said.

2023.05.31 22:37 AslandusTheLaster Deadman
Original prompt: [WP] You're a misunderstood necromancer, with a passion for dance. You resorted to necromancy because you could never find a crew passionate or flexible enough to match your choreography. (

I approached the gate to the cemetery, my group at my back. Naturally, said gate was locked. Alas, it seemed my dreams would have to sit by the wayside, forgotten by history and unappreciated by the world.
Just kidding. I gave a sharp whistle, and the necromantic abomination behind me reached out with six of its twenty arms. Six that didn't have eyes on the palms, I hoped. Fixing those bad boys was always a pain in the butt. Regardless, the Mass of Flesh tore the gates off easily and tossed them to the side to let us enter.
"Thanks, MOF. I'll see if I can give you a snazzy new ability next time you need a tune-up," I said, stepping through the gate. Every time we had an obstacle like this, it only served to vindicate my decision to experiment on the corpses of those bandits that had attacked me when I had just started out.
As we got closer to the mausoleum at the center of the graveyard, I slammed directly into a massive wall of magical force. Theoretically I could tear it down, but that would expend most of my magic...
"Hmph. Matilda? Do you see a way through this?" I asked.
The translucent young woman floating behind me drifted up and examined the wall. Being an ethereal being, she had a much easier time seeing the magic at work than the rest of us did. She quickly turned toward a pair of tall headstones and floated between them, showing what seemed to be a deliberate gap left in the wall.
"Over here," she said. Her voice was a soft whisper, barely louder than the rustling of leaves. It always made me a little sad, mainly because she would probably still have her flesh if I had managed to rescue her from those cultists before they sacrificed her. Oh well, as my necromancy mentor always said: Waste not, want not.
"Right, thanks Matty. Let's go, everyone," I said, leading the others through the gap and toward the concrete building.
The mausoleum looked to be locked, but I could vaguely hear someone shouting from behind it. As we rounded the building, the lich standing atop a raised coffin came into view. It was seemingly giving a speech to a group of low level undead, mostly skeletons and zombies, that were probably too brain-dead to properly understand him.
"Tonight! The village of Dungraith shall fall, and our ranks shall swell! Tomorrow! The Town of Orlin! Then! The world shall fall! A new order shall be made! They will discover the peace of death, then the unity of undeath!" the lich said.
The crowd around him didn't react at all, so I started clapping instead. The lich jumped at the sound, turning to face us.
"Adventurers? Hah! You're too late! I, Jeremeus, great harbinger of Thalryx, have already amassed a mighty army! Soon the age of undeath shall cast its shade upon the world!" he said, waving his arms over the assembled horde of shambling corpses.
"Cool. I mean, not cool, Thalryx is a prick, but you seem fine. The name's Gunwald. This is Matilda, that's MOF," I said, gesturing to my followers as I spoke. I finally turned to the last member of our group, a female orcish vampire. "And this gal is Kilgore. Together, we are DEADMAN!"
On the last word, I struck a pose and the others stared blankly at me. In hindsight, maybe zombies weren't so bad, at least they had an excuse for their bad reaction times.
"Guys, you were supposed to strike the chord when I said that. You know, like we practiced," I said.
"You come before me with a mere four people? When you meet the king in the afterlife, be sure to tell him he should have sent more men!" Jeremeus said, making a visible effort to ignore my attempted introduction.
"No, no, we're a band. Matilda's on vocals, I do the choreography, MOF plays percussion, Kilgore's our bassist," I said, the others pulling out their instruments as I spoke. "And we are DEADMAN!"
That time, they actually responded. Matilda let loose a death metal scream, MOF slammed on one of his cymbals, and Kilgore plucked a note off her bass.
"Much better. Now then, we're in the market for a new guitarist, and you seem like just the chap for the job," I said.
"This is a farce. I am the forebear of a new age! I am no guitarist!" he said.
"Perhaps I was unclear," I said. I raised my hand up and snapped my fingers, casting Claim Undead over the entire crowd. All the lesser undead turned to face Jeremeus. "I am offering you a friendly invitation to join our band. You should accept before it becomes less friendly and less inviting."
The lich looked around, but I could see he still had some determination in his eyes. Well, stubbornness, determination implied he'd have some chance of victory.
"Uh, you should really listen. I used to have 3 fledgling vampires and a dozen thralls under my wing. Used to. I wasn't on board with joining either and, well..." Kilgore said.
"Hey now, the groupies are still alive. They're back at camp, as alive as they day I graced your castle, busily preparing soup for us to politely pretend to eat," I said.
"They're thralls, not groupies. The implications of the terms are much different, please stop calling them groupies," Kilgore said.
"Well, as I was saying, the groupies are back at camp, safe and sound... Or as safe and sound as they were under Kilgore's wing anyway," I said. "The whole 'being used as blood cattle' thing makes it rather hard to say they're properly safe."
"I have a medical need for blood, if I didn't get it from willing donors I'd have to take it from-" Kilgore began shouting. She was cut off by Jeremeus yelling over her.
"Are you people out of your minds?!?!?! You're having this argument here, surrounded by my army, in front of my face!" Jeremeus said. He turned and looked around at the zombies and skeletons encircling us all. "What are you dipwits waiting for? Attack!"
Jeremeus pointed at us, giving the order to his former underlings. None of them moved.
"What? I said attack!" he repeated, pointing more aggressively.
"I don't think he's caught on yet," I said. I began snapping rhythmically. The horde around us began snapping in time as well, following my example. MOF and Kilgore took the hint and started playing along to the beat.
"So here we are, boy, upon this hallowed ground. Thought you'd bring along an army, maybe sack a nearby town?" I sang. Matilda floated around behind me offering backup vocals, though the only discernible words she offered were just repetitions of the last part of each line.
"That just isn't how it works, son, not now, before or ever. If you wanna make a change, you've got to be a bit more clever!" I sang, spinning around and pointing at Jeremeus.
"So trust me on this one, boy, this cycle's old as time. Because violence, it solves nothing, and hist'ry tends to rhyme," I sang, snapping in time again as I walked toward Jeremeus, cuing the others to adjust the beat. The horde around us closed in as well, still snapping in time.
"Believe me now, lad, this is something I would know! I've been marching 'round for decades, through heat and rain and sn-" I said, then went silent as Jeremeus smacked me across the face with the metal scepter he was carrying.
"Gunner!" Matilda shouted, interrupting her vocalizing. I held up a finger to her, before shoving my jaw back into place. It was a minor injury to begin with, and my natural regeneration fixed the damage that was there in seconds.
"I'm fine, Matty," I said. "That was rather rude, Jeremeus."
I grabbed the lich by the neck and smashed him into a gravestone, dragging his face along the rough surface. He managed to get a hand on my arm and pulled away, stumbling and falling onto his back in front of the horde.
"Wait, wait! Did she say Gunner?" Jeremeus asked.
"Uh... no?" Matilda said, her voice a slight whimper.
"No, no... It makes too much sense... All the talk of seeing this before... Gunwald... Gunner Wal- Gunner Walden!" he said, piecing the deception together. If blood still pumped through his veins, that would've been about the point that he went pale.
I sighed, pinching the bridge of my nose.
"Sorry..." Matilda whispered into my ear.
"So are we still planning to recruit this jackass or does he get out of joining the idiot brigade since he nearly took your jaw off?" Kilgore asked.
"Quiet! Do you have any idea who you're talking to? It's the Emperor of Death!" Jeremeus said, somewhat fumbling his words.
"I don't think you've earned that nickname yet, jackass," Kilgore said to the lich.
"What? No, not me! Your boss!" he responded, pointing at me. Kilgore looked at me for a moment, then back at Jeremeus.
"I refuse to believe anyone who would go by 'Emperor' would be caught dead in sequined leather," Kilgore said.
Jeremeus ignored her and turned to me. Then he asked, "Aren't you supposed to be dead? I mean, you rally together an army beyond numbers, crush every military force in your way, take down multiple kingdoms..."
"...Kill untold numbers of innocents, destroy large amounts of infrastructure that never got put back together quite right, set back the rights and public perception of the undead by a few centuries, yes. Apparently two hundred years wasn't long enough for people to forget me, but I've got to at least fix my own mistakes," I said.
"...But now you're here? Managing a band?" Jeremeus asked.
"Yes. So what do you think about joining now?" I asked flatly.
"Absolutely! Uh... I don't actually know anything about music, but I'm sure I can learn," Jeremeus said.
"That's the spirit. MOF? Do you have the guitar?" I asked.
MOF reached up to the basket on its back and pulled out the instrument, handing it to the new recruit.
"I'm sure Kilgore can teach you the basics, we've got a performance next week in Orlin," I said.
"Orlin? That might be... problematic," he said.
"Why?" I asked.
"I already sent them my declaration of war," he said.
I pinched the bridge of my nose and sighed.
"...Fantastic," I said. Good or bad, this was definitely going to be a memorable concert.
