2023.06.06 08:14 gunark75 Newbuild flats with slamming corridor doors - I’m told they can’t be fixed due to fire regs, is this true?
I’m in a newbuild block of flats (they are coming up to 12 months old) and the corridor doors slam shut. People, being people, don’t understand you can close them quietly. As I live next to one, it slams around 20-30 times a day and night (love the 1am ones), rattling through the flat and setting my dog off. I seem to have headaches far more often now and it is genuinely having an effect on my quality of life.
Initially they were going to be adjusted, even a fire safety visitor said they shouldn’t do that. However they are now claiming the law changed at the start of 2023 around fire safety that means they can’t adjust them.
Is this true or are they lying?

What should I do in this situation? Me (25M) and my ex (24m) met 9 months ago. She told me she had some medical issue that made it hard for her to get pregnant and said she took birth control just in case. Two months into our relationship she got pregnant and I heard her talking to her friend after the fact about how she ran out of birth control pills and wasn’t taking it but when I confronted her that I overheard there phone call she denied it.
The next few months, it went from a great relationship to a terrible one but I wanted to stay because I believed possibly it was just pregnancy hormones. She lost her job before getting pregnant for showing up late too many times and calling out too much. During this time where she didn’t work, I supported her 100% financially. I paid her bills, she lived with me for free and I bought everything for her including all her food. I sent her over $800 in venmo to keep her bills from going to collections. I would buy her literally anything she wanted from any restaurant because I wanted to make her feel as comfortable as possible during her pregnancy.
Despite everything I did, she started treating me so bad. The only way she would answer the phone is by saying “what” in an annoyed tone. When I got home she wouldn’t acknowledge me besides saying hey while not even looking at me and then ignoring me and staying on her phone. She’d never hug or kiss me when I got home until I asked her to at which point she complained that I was blocking her TV when I kissed her. Got annoyed if I called her when she was in the car because that was her time to listen to music. When I tried to put my arm on her in bed she’d grab it very hard and throw my arm off of her. I would call her at work to see how she is feeling since she was having a tough pregnancy and she’d constantly get mad at me saying “I’m fine if I wasn’t I’d tell you, you don’t need to call me.” It was like I was living with someone who hated me.
I let all this go because I figured it was hormones but I asked her to try and be more respectful and not disrespect me so much. She would blow up when I said this saying “I am controlling how she speaks to me” and that “I’m making her feel like a shit GF.” I tried to tell her that’s not it at all but the way she is acting is hurting me because I’m trying to do so much for her and it’s like she hates me.
Anyways, it got to the point where she had done a lot of suspicious stuff to make me think maybe she is cheating. She changed her phone passcode, randomly started staying an hour late at work almost every day after never staying late. Her ex who she broke up with on good terms messaged her to get some stuff his now dead mom gave him and she says she never responded then a month later when I asked why he wouldn’t follow up with you about that if his mom gave it to him she’s like “idk he just never texted back.” One day I got home from work and her mouth tasted like this blowjob spray she has then when I pointed it out claimed she had just put it on for me even though we never have sex right after work as I sweat all day and when I went looking for the spray it was at the bottom of her purse underneath a lot of other things. Didn’t look like she just sprayed it. Finally the last straw was when I found in my bedside table this nipple flavored stuff that she never used with me and I never knew about and it was opened. Disclaimer: I have done OMAD before and loved it! It was two years ago and I started with intermittent fasting 16-8, then went to 18-6, then to 20-4 and I reached OMAD after a few months. It made me lose 70 lbs in about 6 months! But I got a higher paying job and started overindulging in junk food/alcohol and gained all my weight back. I haven’t done OMAD since.
Anyway, I really want to go cold turkey on all my bad habits. I know exactly which habits hold me back/keep me obese and a huge part of my brain is telling me to just rip the bandaid off and dive right back in. It’s always been hard for me to make gradual changes and I find staying incredibly disciplined a lot easier than slowly removing bad habits.
Please tell me what you think. Do I do what I did before and build my way back up? Or dive right back in? For those who just went for it, would you change your approach at all?

Greetings everyone, I'm 27M fairly new to swimming. Merely 2 weeks in swimming pool. I'm dedicated to learning swimming, not for any competition but as a healthy lifestyle habit and am more inclined to swimming in close by river (has safe spots where depth is less and flow is slow). I would like to hear any advice about when or how to switch from pool to open water like after a particular amount of laps I can do in pool without stop or have to learn some vital techniques applicable for open water, cause I have read in posts that these are very different for swimmer. I (m30) met my ex gf (w28) about 1.5 years ago. We were just dating for half a year and even tho i put a blind eye on a lot of red flags I loved her more than anyone else. After about half a year of being in a relationship she started pulling back, ghosting me and finally break up with me since she felt like she need to fix her life first, since she is from latin america and needed to find a way to get a new visa, new apartment, job, dealing with sort of depressions and stuff...but "she still loves me and wants to start a family with me...later". Couple days after she broke up with me, she started a new job at a restaurant/bar. Few months after the breakup we started seeing each other again, going out, sleepovers, weekend trips...I felt like we're getting back together. But she was definitely playing me...ignoring me for weeks and yet telling me she loves me and wants to get back together...later. This went on for about 9 very confusing months, until she texted me on valentines day and I woke up realizing these are just empy words. I demanded a last meeting in person and told her that i cant go on like that and she has to make up her mind. So we met and talked and since then no more contact, that was 4 months ago. So I started living my life again and i'm currently dating a new girl, but emotionally I'm still not over my ex and I still feel like she left me for someone at her restaurant, since she's really close with the other bar staff and the rumors of restaurant/bar job environment being a fuckfest dont make it easier for me. Just played the new consulate event map for my first game on this season.
Starters, new rework is… weird? Idk how I feel about it as someone who played the literal Beta of R6, the game has grown a lot and I love that.
Now on to the match, again, first game on in well forever for me. I legitimately don’t know what season I stopped at cause I’ve had all the new ones except Fenrir (I’d come into the game and see the new op, use renown to buy them and never touch it since my friends didn’t play). We lost, I had gone 5 and 2 but I was messing around cause again first game on and I got straight hate messages after the match. All I can do is laugh at this point cause the people who messaged me were so hurt over losing a non-ranked casual match.
Glad to see this community hasn’t changed a bit! For people coming back into the game, has it been the same for you as well?

I honestly feel like sometimes I do not belong. Please hear me out.
I tried going to a Pride event one time to put myself out there and publicise my support for fellow queers but it bored me. I thought I'd enjoy looking at men at a basketball game so I went one time and I didn't relish it. I thought I'd enjoy watching Drag Race because it's a big part of queer culture, I tried watching one episode and I found it toxic, minus the lip sync performances. I've seen clips of the show on YT but I still haven't seen the show in full because I don't find enjoyment in it. I liked ANTM growing up and I feel bad that I don't go gaga over beauty pageants such as Miss Universe competitions etc. I thought of stepping out of my comfort zone one time and tried a gay dating app but the app wasn't kind to not-so-discreet and not stereotypically handsome or cute gay men. Plus it didn't feel right cause I'd rather just stay at home and watch films or read books than endure the pressure of gay dating's unkind system. Even though I'm comfortable playing with androgyny in terms of clothing, I'm someone who doesn't like make up. I'm not usually expressive or loud. I'm not quick-witted. Even though I love watching Project Runway, I never dreamed of being a designer or owning a hair salon. I don't go to pubs or bars. I don't drink. I don't smoke. I know I love pop culture but I will miss on a lot of queer references. I love pop music so much but most days, rock & metal music save me from drowning in silence.
I don't feel unique because of these things. These are me as a queer person. But most importantly, these are what makes me human. I just can't help but wish sometimes that I'm more like the majority, you know? Because it seems really fun. To be so out there. I've tried but I failed and sometimes it brings me a lonely feeling specially when meeting queer people who are so cultured and full of colours.

I know I love pop culture but I will miss on a lot of queer references. I love pop music so much but most days, rock & metal music save me from drowning in silence.
I don't feel unique because of these things. These are me as a queer person. But most importantly, these are what makes me human. I just can't help but wish sometimes that I'm more like the majority, you know? Because it seems really fun. To be so out there. I've tried but I failed and sometimes it brings me a lonely feeling specially when meeting queer people who are so cultured and full of colours.

This was not a very visible post at the time, but I did post a few years back (apparently 4 years ago!) about some behavioral changes I was seeing in my aging adult (now elderly) husky. Although the initial post wasn't very widely seen, I was just considering how often I've used "Reddit" as a modifier while searching for honest answers for these and other issues because I felt these searches were more honest and reliable than ads from potentially biased parties. It made me want to promote some awareness about what I discovered in the last year in case it might help someone. Original post here.
Disclosure: I am still working as a veterinary receptionist. Although this gives me a very unique insight into the medical care that most pets are given, I (and likely any vet receptionist you ever speak with) am not medically trained. I triage cases to determine priority, but never administer any form of treatment and often do not find out what kind of care was actually warranted.
That said, please do not diagnose your dog with anything until you've spoken with a veterinarian. My experience is that they tend to care as much (sometimes more) than you do about finding a solution. If it doesn't seem like they do, please seek a second opinion if you are able. They are doctors and work hard, please just be respectful.
ANYWAY- The point of this post was my sweet puppy. My (now 13Y/O) husky started having urinary issues inside the house about 4-5 years ago that were frustrating me despite frequent lab work I liberally agreed to with my work, and frequent attempts to continue training I had already performed.
It turns out that my pup was showing signs of Canine Cognitive Dysfunction (Dementia). Again, I think it's important to meet with a doctor before diagnosing your pet... But I do recognize that many veterinarians overlook cognitive and behavioral issues before evaluating purely physical symptoms so I think it's important for pet owners to recognize that cognitive symptoms can simply be difficult to recognize.
My only plea here is that if you start to suspect behavioral changes in your pet you ask your vet about dementia (I didn't) and I would like to show that Purina actually offers a questionnaire to help facilitate this discussion. I always feel like I might have noticed too late, but overall I noticed in time to start giving my pups meds that either may or may not help. I kind of hope others might notice before the symptoms get as bad as they are for my puppy.

2023.06.06 08:08 ACT33 Please help me: MacBook M1 2020 touchpad and keyboard freezing when lid closes and only fixed with restart
Hello,
I have a MacBook Air M1 which has just run out of warranty by like two months. My computer works fine but when I shut the lid and turn it back on, it becomes unresponsive, as in the screen continues to function and the cursor blinks if hovering over a search bar, but no keyboard input works and the touchpad freezes. I can only fix this by doing a hard restart of the computer.
i have tried EVERYTHING. I did a hardware diagnostic run and it said there were no error codes whatsoever. I tried a safe boot and it happened there too. I tried reinstalling Mac OS twice and it still happened. I fucking deleted everything on my computer and it still happened.
There were never any viruses or random apps I downloaded on my computer. I was always careful with it. I’ve heard this might be an issue with the logic board. I don’t know what to do. I don’t have the money to afford a 600 dollar logic board repair. I start medical school soon and have major surgery tomorrow morning.
This MacBook was my replacement for a stolen Lenovo, and now it’s already broken. This is tragic. That someone stole my 700 dollar computer, I bought a 1000 dollar computer, and now it’s fucked just a year later. I am in dire need of assistance from someone or anyone.
If anyone here is willing to help a man out that would be really appreciated. I will not be able to move for the next few weeks, and I don’t have much time to get this fixed, nor do I have money. If someone can help me fix it, I am willing to work with you on some payment based on what little I have. I can give this to you for parts or for use, and I’m willing to trade for an older 2018-2019 MacBook or an intel based MacBook that anyone has lying around. I need something reliable for the sake of my education. If this is the extent of the issue, I can tolerate it and live with it, but if it degenerates further, then I could end up really screwed down the road in medical school. And I cannot have my future riding on that.
Please someone help me.
Edit: I just connected an external mouse and that has no issues with working when I close the lid and open it again, but the keyboard and trackpad are still unresponsive unless I restart. I’d also like to point out that this problem was intermittent, but began happening a lot more often up until now, where it happens every time I shut the lid.
