Hi, first time here, but I've done a lot of research and I think at this point it's time to call in the experts.
I've got a custom 3U TrueNAS box with room for an extra expansion card and no more drive slots. I know rackmount drive enclosures are a thing, but finding a decent 1U one is apparently harder than I thought. I thought I'd hit a winner with the QNAP TL-R400S, but the reviews said it's Linux support was actually pretty bad.
What I'm looking for:

• 1U
• 4 3.5" drive bays (hot-swap is nice, but not necessary)
• Connection via mini-SAS or similar connection preferred over USB.
• 15" or under depth
• Supports Debian
• SAS support is a nice-to-have, but SATA-only is fine
• Available to ship to the US

Basically a TL-R400S that has decent Linux support. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I've spent way too long trying to find the perfect enclosure.

Obviously this will be full of spoilers so read at own risk. Also I'm pretty sure I'm not the first one asking but I notice this being a constant topic when discussing specific games so I decided to make this post.
Browsing this sub and JRPG discussions in general it seems like the majority of games even though they are liked are bashed for their endings. We often joke about the fact that we start killing rats and end the game fighting gods. So I want to ask 3 questions:
1.) What does a game need to do for you to consider it having a good ending? What do you look for in antagonists? What should the final scenes include?
2.) Which games' endings do you remember fondly?
3.) Which games' ending do you dislike.
Gonna go first:
1.) I want an antagonist who had an impact on the game and made you hate him. A big finale culminating into the boss battle to settle all scores developed in the last tens of hours. I don't want some obscure entity pulling the strings behind this antagonist ending up making said entagonist feel like a joke.
Also for the conclusion I'm a sucker for happy ends. The party doesn't have to stay together but if everybody can happily live their lifes I'm in. Throw in a bit of romance and everything is perfect. I don't dislike a bittersweet note but I don't need it.
Also: Music, I want to feel hyped fighting the final boss and the music is an integral part of that.
2.) FFVI: Man do I hate Kefka. He is not a particularly well written villain, he is bland and one-dimensional. But dude has been toying with me from experimentingnon Terra, attacking Figaro, poisoning Cyan's family and actually succeeding at destroying the world up to that insane boss battle with that banger theme. Also who never wlfelt the urge to kick a clown's ass?
FFVII: Same, FFVII was my first RPG and daaaaamn did it feel good kicking Jenova's and Sephiroth's ass after chasing him for almost 80 hours. Especially because he actually killed one of my favourite video game characters. The music during the whole boss gauntlet is out of this world. The ending is kinda bittersweet showing how Nanaki outlives everyone but he seems happy with his little family which is alright.
Persona 5 Royal:
I wasn't a huge fan of the Holy Grail in P5. It's one of those gods we need to beat which randomly appears at the end. I like the idea about the Grails reasoning about the public conscience and people's need for comfort and control but after Shido I felt like I was done with the game. But holy hell did Royal improve on that. The whole ark with Maruki trying to make everyone happy, Sumire's denial and the sweet temptation to sacrifice freedom for comfort is executed so damn well. Royal managed to not just increase the time you need to play the game but to improve vanilla in every single way.
3.) FFIX: Lackluster endboss, amazing ending. I still consider this the GOAT of not only RPGs but video games in general but the game manages to do everything right up until you beat Kuja and there's Necron all of a sudden. Guess I'll need to kick his ass to roll the credits. This felt like a chore after the end of the game. But the ending is great. Everybody is happy, Zidane and Garnet end up together. What else could you want?
Tales of Arise: Looks like this whole sub agrees that the last fourth felt tacked on and barebones. I loved the ending though. The last picture from the wedding brought tears to my eyes.
Chained Echoes: Contrary to popular belief I'm not opposed to Kylian redeeming himself but the boss gauntlet wasn't the greatest. I actually had to google who I had to fight in the end although it's only been like 4 months since I played the game. Also Glenn turning into a bird? I like the freedom bit but it still felt weird. I wanted him to end up with Lenne through all the hardships they endured through multiple lives.
I'm curious what's your opinion on this topic, so let me know!

I was impacted by the recent layoffs and I'm in the interview process at a few tech and design companies, where I'd be working from home. My wife is expecting our first child in September. We live in California and it looks like I'd need to be employed at a company for 1 year to be eligible for paternity leave. Assuming I get the job, I would be at the company for about 2 or 3 months before the baby comes. I don't want to start off on the wrong foot at my new job or have this impact their decision to hire me. But I also don't want miss out on important bonding time with my precious family.
Should I ask about paternity leave during the interview process, after I receive an offer, or after I've already started?

Hi! part time filmmaker here. I've been recording live bands for a while now with modest success and I want to step up my game on the sound department.
Right now I'm rocking a couple of:

• Zoom F2 for singers / crowd reaction on smaller venues / solo artists
• Rode shotguns on top of cameras (2 o 3) for directional/backup audio on a worst case scenario
• Zoom H6 for the stereo main sound, in front of the band/speakers

I was thinking that adding a recorder to get the master sound directly from the mixer (when available) was a good idea, but I'm kinda lost on what I actually need for this.
Is a Zoom F3 a good idea for this use case scenario? I'd like something that I can just leave there recording until I'm ready to pack my things up, without much thinkering in between because I don't always have helping hands on the venues. I'm also aware that not all the places will have a line ready for me to connect to, but I'm trying to be ready for the biggest amount of possible scenarios and to capture multiple sources of audio as a backup in case something goes wrong.

What's left of "Culture" nearly doesn't exist in modern post-industrial societies. As Kaczynski says, the system cannot allow small village communities or nomadic peoples to exist unless they are so small or insignificant as to produce no natural resources or usefulness to the system. So many people -especially in Europe like a lot of my relatives- there move away from their homelands like the citizens of post-soviet countries like Slovakia, Poland, Russia, etc. to western countries, therefore abandoning their culture and consequently removing that loyalty and connection towards the system.
For example, one of my relatives grew up in a small village in eastern europe during the 1970s and until the fall of socialism. Where there were maybe 2000 people living in it. There everyone raised him, his parents, his grandparents, his aunts, his uncles, his cousins, his siblings, and all the work that was to be found lay in the village. But with the fall of communism, suddenly it allowed people like him to abandon their lives and leave for places like Germany and America. Where here, children are raised in suburban neighbourhoods secluded in their homes, thousands of miles away from their other relatives, in school 8 hours a day 5 days a week, on their phones and electronics 7 days a week. Now he works in a starbucks to support his children. He hasn't been back to Europe in over 20 years. And his children work at the same section of low-level jobs as him.
This is why depression, suicide, mass shootings, self-harm, and drugs among so many other things run so rampant among the dissilusioned, sedentary, power-deprived youth, all spreading among it like a plague worse than Egypt's. There is barely any community layer to anyone's life in such a world, there is little freedom of time or ability to pass through the power process in any meaningful capacity outside of some "wholesome hobby" that will never fully satisfy their real biological desires.
When profit and success is valued over family and communal loyalty, it results in the slow but sure abandonment of the latter's both. So that eventually the only piece of meaning can be found in working up the social latter or working to ensure that a few rusty and dented nails are pulled out, cleaned and straightened, to fit the system's needs (therapy and schooling).
In short, as the "insatiable progress of civilisation" slashes and burns itself into the last mysterious, untamed, undiscovered, and primitive pieces of earth; It's a matter of a few centuries before all the world speaks only a handful of languages.
p.s, running away into a forest-soon-to-be-swidden or national park, is doing nothing to prevent the system from expanding and growing to control human behaviour even further than it already has. Hence the only possible assurance to securing human independence is by the collapse of the system. As Ted Kaczynski said, history is mostly made by the power-driven and relentless types who consistantly strive to accomplish more. Unlike the "unthinking, fickle mob who will change their attitude as soon as someone comes along with a better propaganda gimmick." Ceasar, Trotsky, Lenin, Stalin, Hitler, Napoleon, Malcolm X, Mao, Franklin Roosevelt, etc. They all took advantage of that mob during tumoltuous and terrible times. Hence, having a physical organisation and dedicated group of followers will be necessary to continuing Kaczynski's ideology for a hope that when the system is struggling it can be taken advantage of. And, pardon my french, it won't happen from a group of smelly redditors slowly aging everyday behind their phones and computers.

i was hanging out with two of my friends this weekend and we happened to stay up talking late in my home. my laughs were being too loud for that time of night and when i woke up a few hours later, there was a slightly aggressive note telling me to stop disrupting tenants with my voice or they’ll call the cops. i’ve been living here for a couple of years and have been self conscious on my noise level for the most part, but i hadn’t heard any issues. and then all of a sudden, this appears and it’s made me incredibly ashamed and a little annoyed that someone didn’t at least ask me politely. i know i’m not owed that but i don’t think i’ve been impolite to anyone here. and if it was my manager, i don’t see why they didn’t text me formally when they’ve done so before. and i really don’t know how to gauge the noise level when the walls are so thin that i can hear conversations whenever people walk past my closed door and closed window.
i set an alarm to be more conscious of the time, but that note just made me feel uncomfortable coming and being home. and it’s like i’ve somehow been suffocated in my own home and the little safety i felt has been chipped at again.

Hey I'm visiting the bay for the first time this July and looking for a 3 day road/ touring bike starting in Berkeley or SF. I'm looking to see a good cross-section of the area and keep mainly to quiet back streets, dedicated paved bike paths, and nothing *too* rugged. I was looking at the Triple Crossover Route and it looks awesome but a little too rough for my bike. Any tips are very much appreciated!

I don’t know what they’ll do for season 50, but they should definitely do something unique and different. Legends would just end up being a cast full of people who have played a bunch and/or people who don’t qualify for that status. So I came up with this concept:
Survivor 50: Through the Years
You have 1 single-time player return from each season. This would exclude the following seasons: 2, 8, 16, 20, 27, 31, 34, 40. All of those are major returnee seasons (except Australia where damn near 2/3 of the cast has played multiple times). We allow for a fan returnee from Caramoan to balance the numbers.
You’d have 5 tribes broken apart by eras
Seasons 1-10; Seasons 11-20; Seasons 21-30; Seasons 31-41; Seasons 42-49
8 players on each tribe, one per season excluding the ones above. This division helps fight against one era being eliminated quickly like you had in WaW with the old school winners mostly getting shuffled out earlier.
Winners are allowed to return.
For example, tribe 1 would have 4 men and 4 women selected from different seasons 1, 3-7, 9-10 who only played in that one season. Keep the cast all under the age of 60 just to keep it competitive and reduce chances for medical issues. Each person selected would obviously have to have been a notable player from their season. For example my mock draft for it would be: Greg, Kelly G, Vecepia, Brian, Deena, Burton, Chris, Katie
The season will have the following elements added to it (but they’ll be unannounced to the cast and the fans until they happen): 42 days as the call back to Australia, Fake merge, Outcast Twist, 11 mile hike to camp, Hidden Immunity Idols, Exile Island, Medallion Of Power, Fire Tokens, and other gimmicks that the show has used. This would exclude Redemption Island and the Edge of Extinction though.
The season would basically be a two part set up due to cast size and length. Episodes would be 90-120 minutes. The first half of the season would air in the spring and would span the first 18 boots leading to the merge. The second half of the season would air in the fall and would obviously be post merge through the endgame.
2 million dollar prize.
As an added incentive to generate excitement from alumni and fans- the winning player wins $50k for each player on their original season (or for a family member if a castaway has passed away) as well as an additional $1 million to a charity of their choice.
Since it’s 42 days and 40 castaways, immunity/reward challenges will be combined and each challenge will be a challenge that appeared on each season represented in the show. First tribal is night 2, with a challenge and tribal each day after that until the final 3. That’s sets the fast pace of the game as a call back to the new era.
It’d be a hell of a thing to put together and pull off, but it would be the ultimate celebration of the game and would do huge fan service for fans of all ages and eras. Probably would never happen but it’d be a lot of fun to see them do something big with it instead of just another standard all-staFvF type season.
