2023.06.06 05:56 raysway666 Trade in M1 MacBook Pro for 15 inch Air?
Considering doing this. I have a 14" Pro right now with 16GB Ram/512GB. . I do not code/video edit, I do enjoy the 120 Hz display but the Liquid Retina I've seen in store is nice as well. Mostly considering going because I miss my 15" screen size on my old MPB and the 14" is pretty heavy... Just not sure if if worth it. Apple will give me $855 trade in making the 15 inch air about 750 (1TB, 16GB) .

2023.06.06 05:50 Professional_Ad_5437 Anyone think this is the reason that Apple have refused to release a full TV set over the years?
I know they sell monitors/screens - but from a home consumer perspective do we think they will push this as a way to consume movies/tv at home?
I wonder if they will sell a family pack??! š¬ that will be $15k please.
After working in Apple retail for both the launch of the iPhone and iPad - whilst I know that sounds silly- people will go into stores and buy multiple units at a time for this very reason, regardless of cost.
This is a good time to buy Apple stocks!

2023.06.06 05:40 Monte22uma 1st time Japan Solo Traveler Tips and Lessons Learned - Tokyo/Kyoto/Osaka
Hello,
Iām a male traveller in my 20s who just returned from a 12 day solo trip to Tokyo (4 nights), Kyoto (3 nights), Osaka (3 nights), then back to Tokyo (2 nights). I had a 7 day JR pass. Day trips I took included Yokohama, Nara, Hiroshima + Miyajima, and Nagashima Spa Land (I replaced Hijemi for this mid-trip because I had seen more than enoughy temples and shrines by that point and wanted to do something totally different).
I had a rough itinerary planned for day to day but was very flexible with it. Eating wasnāt a huge focus of mine as I am vegetarian. If you donāt put effort into finding vegetarian places (I didnāt), then eating in Japan will likely be a challenge. There seemed to be animal products in a lot of things you would never guess thereād be animal products in such as majority of 7/11 snacks. I also donāt remember seeing any vegetarian meals available at 7/11s either.
Anyways, here are some lessons learned/observations, mainly involving transit, that I wish I knew in advance. I hope they are helpful for you.
1 - Walk on LEFT side of streets and stairs, though at times what was appropriate seemed frustratingly inconsistent.
2 - In Tokyo do NOT bother getting the 72hr Japan Metro all you can use pass and try to take only non-JR lines for this 72hrs. I toyed with this idea because I like the idea of haivng unlimited access to transit. However this is way too complicated and not feasible for a first time traveller with the Japanese transit system works. Just get the Suica or Pasmo card. The convenience you pay for is well worth it considering how much you will use transit.
3 - When my JR pass was active I did try to only take JR lines in Kyoto, Osaka which sometimes added a bit more time to the trip but was usually do-able as JR lines are quite extensive. However, Apple maps app would often only give routes with non-JR trains as that was fastest route. The Google Maps app was a bit better at including JR lines. I sometimes had to get creative and divide the trip when entering into the app so taking JR only was possible i.e., A to Osaka Station, then Osaka Station to C, rather than A to C.
4 - I still have a very hard time understanding how to know which line is JR vs Local vs some other company. At times it was obvious on signs cause it would say āJRā on signs and other times I was on JR line but it didnāt say JR anywhere. Often times the app didnāt say either. This was very frustrating and if anyone knows a better way to tell please comment.
5 - The Osaka/Umeda Station/underground complex is the most confusing, un-intuitive transit complex I have ever encountered in any part of the world. Itās like a whole other city down there. In order of decreasing ease of transit use, it would be Tokyo (easiest) then Kyoto then Osaka.
6 - When riding trains wear backpack at your front. This is what the Japanese do.
7 - As others have said before on Reddit, consider walking over transit in some cases to explore new areas and see more things. I would usually strongly consider walking at least one way if my destination was under 25 minutes away by walking, and I seldom regretted it.
8 - Reserving your seats on Shinkansen is easy to do on ticket machines and worth it. On my trip there was often single seats available to reserve even minutes before the train was to arrive.
9 - For purposes of a tourist, Suica/Passmo/IC card are identical.
10 - IMPORTANT - In some cities, the main city train station also includes the Shinkansen lines e.g., Kyoto, Tokyo. In other cities, the Shinkansen station is separate e.g., Osaka, Kobe, Yokohama i.e., located in a different part of the city. So when reserving your bullet train to Osaka, for example, you can enter your destination as āShin-Osakaā or āOsakaā. But to get to main Osaka station the machine will prompt you to go through Shin-Osaka.
11- You donāt have to use Shinkansen to get to some destinations like Tokyo to Yokohama, Kyoto to Osaka, Osaka to Kobe, Osaka to Himeji. There are local trains that cover these routes that are less expensive, not busy.
Other tips 1- Businesses, stores, attractions in Japan open LATE - 10am. Unless youāre planning on going to do some outdoonature attraction thatās always open and may be experienced earlier in the day without the crowds, I would strongly advise starting your day later (maybe around 9am) and ending later (maybe around 10pm) so you can be out and about when things are open and so you can experience Japan at night. I made the mistake of starting my day around 7am, having not much to do until 10am, then ending my day at like 7pm cause I was tired but then missing Japan night activities.
2 - Japanese Sim cards are much less complicated than they seem. I ordered mine with my JR Rail Pass from āJapan Experienceā company and it worked great. BUT it would have been cheaper to get a eSim card if your phone can accommodate. I used data quite freely (except Netflix and instagram which both use TONS) and used about 9 GBs total for 12 day trip.
BONUS - I went to some movies in Japanese cinema on this trip (I like movies) and fun fact - Japanese people stay with butt in seat until VERY end of credits - and yes, not just the first fun credits but also the 20 minutes of white text on black screen credits.

2023.06.06 05:34 S28E01_The_Sequel A few people who buy the Apple Vision Pro at release will get the last laugh in 15-20 years
Everyone is laughing at the price but I dont think Apple cares. If their options were to spend another year r&d'ing an affordable headset or releasing one "today" with ALL the highest tech... why not both? This:
A) gets the ball rolling on store development for when consumer level is ready
B) creates an interesting and very rare OG collector piece.
If AR actually goes where we want it to over the next 20 years, I could see B being quite profitable actually.

2023.06.06 05:28 Thexcommunicado Macbook Pro 2019 Keyboard typing multiple letters
Hi! I've been using my Macbook Pro 2019 Touchbar version since 2019 which has those butterfly keys. The problem is that when I type, all the letters type double or triple. It is very frustrating. What should I do? Is there a cheaper alternative? I don't want to spend a lot of money on an old device. I haven't visited the apple store yet but I'm sure they'll charge me a lot in Toronto. Any easy fix? or if you know what could be the issue? Any similar experiences? Please share. Thank you!

2023.06.06 04:44 DESTEK-VR Apple Vision Pro, it's blazing, powerful, amazing, and also incredibly expensive!
| WWDC 2023 is also referred to as the "XR Spring Festival" by the XR industry. For everyone interested in the AMR field, Vision Pro indeed brings significant impact. Apple Vision Starting with the hardware and interaction, Apple Vision Pro resembles a pair of ski goggles, but apart from that, they don't have much in common. Vision Pro features a front-facing 3D glass that can display the user's eyes, allowing for normal eye contact with people around them. Apple calls this feature EyeSight. One of the fundamental design principles of Vision Pro is to prevent users from being isolated from their surroundings. To illustrate the contrast, let's take the example of VR devices. Unless the external cameras are manually activated, users are typically isolated from the outside environment and people, and others cannot see the user's face and eyes, leading to significant communication barriers. However, with Vision Pro, even in VR immersion mode, once someone approaches, the device automatically displays the person's presence, and the user's eyes are also shown on the sides. When the user returns to immersion mode, the sides cover the eyes, indicating to others that the user cannot see them. On the inside, Vision Pro is equipped with Micro OLED dual-eye 8K (single-eye 4K) displays, as well as an M2 chip and a new R1 self-developed chip. It boasts the most detailed and best screens and the most powerful chip in head-worn devices to date. Apple has also designed a large area of heat dissipation holes at the bottom to ensure sustained performance. Currently, two core challenges in AR devices are optical display and computational performance, in simpler terms, the display quality and processing power. Improving performance requires addressing the "impossible triangle" of computation, battery life, and size. By transitioning from AR glasses to MR headsets, Apple has made some concessions in terms of size, including the choice of an external battery. Apple confirmed that Vision Pro adopts an external battery solution, which supplies power to the headset via a magnetic power cable. Even with the external battery solution, the officially claimed battery life is only two hours. In theory, users can extend the battery life indefinitely by replacing the external battery, but it requires separate purchases, and the price has not been disclosed. The external battery solution is not elegant, but it makes Vision Pro look very lightweight and thin. The official weight and front thickness have not been disclosed, but previous leaks have emphasized this point. Additionally, apart from the 8K screens and two high-performance chips that consume power, Vision Pro is equipped with 5 sensors and 12 cameras for eye tracking, environment capturing, and gesture tracking, all of which also consume power. This leads to the two core interaction methods of Vision Pro-gesture and voice. Apple claims that by relying on multiple cameras and sensors on the outside, various gestures can be accurately recognized, and the handle controller is abandoned. In addition, voice can also cover a series of operations such as text input and switching apps. To software and content In addition to showing off the Vision Pro device itself, Apple also announced at WWDC the Vision Pro operating system, visionOS, Apple's sixth operating system. Like iPadOS and watchOS, visionOS is also developed based on iOS. Benefiting from this, you can enjoy the huge application ecosystem of iOS. All compatible iOS/iPadOS applications can be used on visionOS in a windowed form. Unlike iPhone and iPad, where we use fingers for touch, Vision Pro mainly relies on eyes, hands and voice for interaction. For example, in Apple's demonstration, when the user is looking at a certain area, pinching the fingers is to select the content, flicking the finger upwards is to scroll the window to browse, and after staring at the input box, input can be made through voice typing. It is also worth mentioning that visionOS has also transformed FaceTime. Through an external 3D camera and deep learning technology, it can generate a 3D model that is close to a real person for the user, and apply it to the video call, while also reflecting the user's mood. Facial and hand movements. In the entertainment scene, the core is a larger screen. Users can pinch the corner of the window and pull it to expand the display range of the screen, and even fill the entire field of vision. However, for Apple, there is still a long way to go in terms of content. Except for conventional 2D, 3D movies and Apple Arcade games, it has not released any VR videos. The content cooperation with Disney's 100th anniversary will not be released until after the release. will really show up. But just like the success of the iPhone is the success of the AppStore, the success of Apple Vision Pro must be inseparable from the establishment and prosperity of the entire software ecosystem. Attracting developers to participate is the key, which is also the most fundamental purpose of Vision Pro's first appearance. In 2021, Facebook will change its name to Meta and focus on the metaverse. In its planning, XR equipment has become a bridge connecting the metaverse and the real world. Microsoft and Facebook are the current kings of AR and VR respectively. According to a research report released by TrendForce, AVR device shipments will be revised up to 14.19 million units in 2022, with an annual growth rate of 43.9%. The growth momentum comes from the increase in the epidemic Due to the demand for long-distance interaction and the price reduction strategy of Oculus Quest 2, the market share of Microsoft HoloLens 2 and Oculus Quest 2 ranks first in AR and VR respectively, and Oculusā share in the VR market has been maintained at about 80% to 90%. A few days before Apple released the Vision Pro, Meta pre-released the Quest 3 headset, priced at $499. The technology industry is bound to usher in a huge wave again. Players including entertainment and game giants such as Disney, Chinese technology giants, unicorns, and entrepreneurs will compete to increase their stakes. The cost of the upstream supply chain of XR will also be further reduced. The content of XR The service ecosystem will truly prosper, and users will get better and cheaper products. submitted by DESTEK-VR to u/DESTEK-VR [link] [comments] |

2023.06.06 04:26 badfantasyrx It's Mobile Monday
And aside from the Big Fish adventure games in the play/apple store (which we can't recommend enough!) we love the heck out of Fantasy Garden!
Stay on top of the latest trends in video games- or just have something to talk about. 3D oil style landscapes are becoming a gaming sensation.
Bob Ross is singing on the nightshift- oil painting has finally gone digital. Textures, for 3D objects in gaming have finally shifted gears so that they can use actual artist's renderings. Rather than flat 2D cartoons, or painstakingly rendered pixel art, the game got blessed with actual artists, painting actual scenes, in three dimensions.
Brought to us by 6waves - a venture capitalist company- the technique is hitting casual gaming in a big way. While you're waiting to wander into a not pixelated land to have an adventure that rivals Breath of the Wild, try out time management (vis a vis Stardew Valley) and enjoy some of the more creative twists that the gaming companies brought to the table- like buying art supplies for energy- with Fantasy Garden. 2023.06.06 03:51 Grayhound98 My Mechanic stole my Credit Card information
I live in Georgia, US. I brought my car into a reputable mechanic local to me. It had high reviews on google and my friend went there recently. They are still on Covid protocols where the lobby is closed, so they had me pay over a phone call (they had my friend pay the same way). The work on my car was superb, however the very next day I had 3 fraudulent charges on my card. Two were online purchases at stores Iāve never been to before, and one was an in person Apple Pay (I never once used Apple Pay) at a grocery store chain I go to regularly. Totaling over 700 dollars when all is said and done. My bank flagged it and notified me after the first online purchase and they have refunded those two, but they are not refunding the grocery store purchase and said they would have to take it up with the specific store and review security camera footage, which may take up to 90 days.
Iām furious, I want to know what I can do. I know it was the auto place that stole my information. I am tempted to call and confront them about it, but Iām not sure if that is the best course of action.

2023.06.06 03:35 hammerheadtiger Post WWDC Thoughts on the Vision Pro
I had some additional thoughts that didn't quite figure into the impressions model of the previous post. I finally got the chance to rewatch it and there are some tidbits and omissions that I think were very interesting. Sometimes it really is just about what they don't tell you. Apple is mysterious like that sometimesā¦
- Rewatching the video, it is suggested that the Vision Pro LightSeal is swappable for different sizes (Link). I wonder how this will work. Of course this being the low yield product it is, the obvious answer is that the Headset may strongly suggest a fitting at an Apple Store.
- The headband looks like it will simply be the most comfortable one ever shipped on a stock headset device. Also appearing to come in different sizes or even different variations (Link). Perhaps we will see other first party designs or a third party market will spring up to accommodate different tastes.
- Interestingly, there is no overhead strap. It makes sense given the lightness but also to save you from the dreaded reverse mohawk that one often gets from wearing their Quest.
- Digital Crown has quietly become one of Apple's great tactile control interfaces in the vein of the click wheel and mute switch. Its inclusion is always a pleasure and I see signs it is now being adopted in software as well. The new Final Cut for iPad has a half circle software click wheel that pops out to assist with fine tune adjustments.
- No specs provided regarding storage size but given that the price is described as 'starting' at $3499, I think its safe to say that there will be higher storage configurations.
- No field of view (FOV) info either. Although I cant imagine it being bad. If Apple wants us to use this to watch big screen movies or work for hours with our laptop screens, they simply cannot constrain the peripheral vision or it will be worse than just working in real life.
- There is no mention of a carrying case or any accessory for that matter. Accessories are alluded to, different straps, different face pads, but none in sight. Even in product shots, the Vision Pro rests on the table open to the elements. I wonder if this is so Apple can focus the energy and attention around pitching the platform
- External battery is a unique choice, the connector on the Headset side looks similar to the iMac cable but seems new. I wonder if the cable is detachable on the battery side. On initial inspection I would expect not.
- When I first heard the rumors that the battery was going to be a separate unit, I thought that it was the least Apple-like thing I have ever heard. However, after using the Magic Leap at CES which also takes the approach of trying to move as much weight off the head as possible, I am fully on board. The difference in head comfort is night and day.
- Notably, one thing Apple did not omit was the price. I had a thought that since this was clearly nowhere near production and with the focus being firmly on the platform, Apple may want to be more mysterious with the price to let hype build a bit. After all, that is what Apple did with the Apple Watch teasing the price announcement out for months.
- A release of early next year is quite interesting as rumor was that Apple was hoping to get this in before the holidays. It seems the reality of scaling production on what is likely to be the most complex piece of hardware Apple has ever shipped means that this will likely hit in Q1 of next year instead.
One final thought which may be controversial. I had this thought during the event that there is a philosophical difference between Apple and the rest of the industry. Today, Apple brought a computing platform to a console fight. In comparison, everything we have seen before has been essentially designed and geared to gamers who plug their headset into powerful rigs in their den and immerse themselves. The Vision Pro is a stab at what the future of general computing might look like. To become a real platform, this industry needs to push past gaming into the fields of productivity and communications. My money is on Apple for being the one to convince us.
