Lilith is Amazing!

2023.06.06 07:34 Forsaken-Thought Lilith is Amazing!

Look, I originally wanted to make this post about how I'm in love with Lilith, that I want her to crush my head and drink my blood but why make it weird.
Seriously though they nailed everything about her, her story, her look, her animations, the damn voice actor fuckin killed it, the eyes, the horns, wings, outfit, literally everything about her. I am just really digging this character design and I know a bunch of you are as well. All hail Lilith I say.
Do I have a Lilith fantasy now? Yes, yes I do. Do I care how creepy that sounds? Yes, yes I do.
Slay me Mother!

Razor Wire Role in Conflict Zones: Strengthening Borders and Protecting Lives
Establishing Secure Boundaries:
In conflict zones, establishing secure boundaries is of paramount importance. Razor wire serves as a vital tool in delineating and fortifying these borders. Its sharp, barbed design creates a physical barrier that is difficult to breach, deterring unauthorized crossings and safeguarding sensitive areas. By installing razor wire along borders, conflict zones can significantly enhance their security and prevent infiltration by hostile forces or unlawful elements.

2023.06.06 07:17 akaioi Is the Alliance gang using the exact wrong technique to speak to the Dancers?

I was thinking about when they had the insight that the Dancers speak in rhythmic patterns when discussing important things. The first thing the Alliance guys do is send back haiku. I just wonder... mightn't haiku be the worst possible kind of poetry to send?
Specifically... haiku don't have to adhere to a given meter or rhythm. Also, they use a lot of visual imagery and conventions (e.g., Iger's "seasonal references") which the Dancers won't understand.
I'm thinking they'd have been better served to use a style with a strong rhythm. Thinking Song of Hiawatha here...
By the shore of Gitche Gumee,
By the shining Big-Sea-Water,
At the doorway of his wigwam,
In the pleasant Summer morning,
I mean... Longfellow lays down a beat you can drive nails with.
Thoughts?

u/DaenerysWon - I love the Porco Rosso card! And what an experience it must've been to feed deer - we have a lot around our area and they love eating what the gardeners plant. Their poop is everywhere - but all your frustration dissipates after you see them prancing around in the forest.
gothwitchofbrooklyn - Thanks for the Austrian card of Hauptplatz. I love this type of modern/retro art and the interesting design of a center statue surrounded by four. I hope the square was not too busy as the summer is ramping up right now.

2023.06.06 06:44 WaveDD Thoughts on if This Program is Right for Me?

Hello,
I have a degree in molecular biology but I really disliked working in a lab during my undergrad. My original plan was to get a bioinformatics masters. Unfortunately, I found out kind of too late that a masters in computer science is attainable. I think going with a CS masters is far better due to flexibility and future career prospects. Ideally, I would like to get into MLE or leverage my bio/chem knowledge and use machine learning in those kinds of applications. I've always had an interest in machine learning and its application in biology. However, those are long term goals and I'd like to at least start a career by just doing software engineering.
I have some experience with programming as I've taken a bioinformatics class in my undergrad where I learned Python. I've also self-learnt R during the pandemic. However, I used these for more data science use cases so I am lacking in knowledge on things like algorithms or software engineering principles, which I'm trying to learn now. As it stands, I am not qualified to enter this program but I think I could hopefully build up my knowledge and complete some of the masters level courses in subjects like algorithms offered by the University of Colorado Boulder by the end of the summer and transfer these courses to OMSCS.
I have a few reservations about this program though. First, from what I've seen, it's recommended to only take one course per semester especially if the course is hard or if your background is not in CS. This makes me nervous because it will take longer than 2 years to finish the masters. Since, I don't have a career yet I'm scared of waiting that long before entering the workforce. Is it normal for people to get internships or hired for a job while they are still in the middle of this program? Another concern I have is that say I do get accepted into this program I will be learning advanced CS concepts but I'd miss out on some of the basic skills that I'm already assumed to have in a CS job like knowing proper software design principles. I'm hoping I will be able to learn these things relatively quickly though through something like a MOOC. The thing is, I don't really know about the things that I don't know and which are important for me to learn before applying for a job.
The next thing I'm concerned about is that after taking a quick look through this sub, this program is a major time commitment. My concern is that I will spend too much time studying and not have enough time to build a portfolio or learn about leetcode, both of which are important to get software engineering jobs. It seems like a lot of people on here already have a job as well as a family. So, the people that say it's a time sink may not have too much free time to begin with however.
I'm not really sure how to succinctly articulate this last concern. I've had a bad relationship with math starting all the way in elementary school. I've only recently started getting a proper appreciation and interest for the subject. I think a large part of that is that I can learn about it at my own pace and I'm not stressed out about things like my grade or it hurting my GPA. I'm ready and even excited about getting better and learning more math but I'm scared that the fast paced rigorous academic setting of this program will make me start hating math again. I don't know if it's "worth" it for me to experience the mathematical rigour that it seems like this program will demand when from what I've heard most software engineering jobs do not require that much knowledge in math. Even in my long term goal of going into MLE, my understanding is that this is an applied machine learning role where knowledge of the math and statistics is definitely required but most people in this role are not creating their own novel models where the mathematical rigour is more required. I think striving to rigorously learn about all the math is admirable and it's a goal that I would like to achieve.
Some of the alternative masters I have been considering are the University of Colorado Boulder masters that I mentioned above. There are also 1 year conversion masters offered by many UK universities, unfortunately many of the higher ranked universities ended their applications for these programs. The University of Liverpool still has its application open though and it's a Russel's group university, which apparently holds some weight for the CS space in England. These programs are nowhere near close to a proper CS masters and I'd say it's more like you're getting most of the important parts of a CS undergrad condensed into one year. I don't mind that though because I'm trying to start a degree and build my career quickly. I don't mind that I'm only learning undergrad levels of CS. I was even considering getting a post-bacc from OSU in CS but almost everyone talked me out of it and highly advised me to get a masters if I can. Next, there is UT Austin's Online CS Masters, I would have to start this program in the winter if I get in. I've sent an email asking what the prerequisite courses I need to take are and if it would be possible for me to take them in the fall semester but I have yet to hear back. The University of Illinois also has an online masters in CS that I could start in winter but the applications for that are closed right now. I've come across this online masters in CS by The University of Louisville, which looks really appealing to me. I emailed them and they said that I could complete all the prerequisite courses in one semester. In addition, they said it would be possible for me to finish the degree in around 2 years. The nice thing about this option is that I would get some higher level CS knowledge than the UK conversion masters. However, I'm having a lot of trouble really finding much information on this program, so it could be a gamble if the courses suck. Right now, I'm leaning more towards one of the UK conversion masters or this Louisville program but I'd love to hear your advice. I know these programs are nowhere near as well ranked or as cheap as OMSCS but they are all still cheaper than my bioinformatics masters. In addition, while university rankings and prestige are important, I have heard that in software engineering your portfolio can still get you great jobs.
This is a really long post and I wanted to thank you for taking the time to read it and for giving me your advice. This is an important decision that is really stressing me out so I really appreciate it.
P.S. I'm not sure what to flair this so my apologies if I flaired it incorrectly.

Number 10: Gastown Known as the oldest neighborhood in the city, Gastown is a picturesque district in downtown Vancouver. It takes its name from riverboat captain John "Gassy Jack" Deighton, believed to be one of the earliest settlers in the area in 1867. Deighton’s statue was recently torn down due to his controversial past. The neighborhood now preserves its historical character, evident by its heritage buildings and Victorian-style homes. Gastown received a national historic site of Canada designation in 2009 for its notable significance. Exploring Gastown is best discovered by wandering its cobbled streets. Sit in one of the countless restaurants and choose among incredible food options. The neighborhood has a vibrant atmosphere, full of art galleries, boutique shops, historic sites, and the iconic antique-style Steam Clock from 1977. The museum's most prominent exhibit is St. Roch, a large arctic vessel used during the first west-to-east journey at the Northwest Passage through the Arctic in the 1940s. Because to its significance, the exploration vessel is listed as a National Historic Site. You can actually climb aboard the historic boat and explore the decks and cabins. Don't skip the Ben Franklin, a yellow submarine outside the museum, built for a 30-day study in the Gulf Stream in 1969. Of course, there are other museums in Vancouver worth exploring, like the nearby Museum of Vancouver.
Number 3: Vancouver Lookout Experience Vancouver in the best possible way by visiting a 553 ft high Vancouver Lookout Tower at Harbour Centre. The building was constructed in a popular brutalist style with large-scale use of poured concrete – a popular architectural style at the time. American astronaut Neil Armstrong opened the lookout in 1977. Vancouver Lookout observation deck gives a 360-degree panoramic view of Downtown and beyond. Vancouver Lookout also offers an audio tour and information panels that will help you learn about the different sights you see in front of you. Experience a breathtaking 40-second glass elevator ride of Harbour Centre, one of Vancouver's tallest buildings. You can even enjoy the Top of Vancouver Restaurant, a unique revolving diner.
Number 2: Stanley Park Vancouver's first and largest urban park - Stanley Park, is a green space covering 1,000 acres of land, making up half of the city's Downtown area. The area was used by Indigenous people for thousands of years before the region was colonized by the British during the 1858 Fraser Canyon Gold Rush. Stanley Park was designated a national historic site of Canada for its beauty and connection to the environment and the city's culture. This large scenic landscape is filled with forest trails, an aquarium, beautiful beach areas, enchanting Lost Lagoon, and many other iconic sights. Walk around Rose Garden and Shakespeare Garden to enjoy beautiful landscaping paths. The park is also home Don't skip Vancouver Seawall which also passes around Stanley Park and has been declared the world's longest uninterrupted waterfront path.
Number 1: Granville Island From a former industrial wasteland to a busy shopping and market hub, the small peninsula of Granville Island is home to over 300 businesses with a million tourists annually. Granville Island Public Market is the most popular attraction, described by many as a food paradise. The market boasts seafood, fresh produce, and gourmet goods from Asian, Mexican, and Greek specialties, and more. Granville Island is also known for its artistic side, with countless theater productions, art galleries and many events. Walk around parks with many hiking trails, enjoy a glass of beer in one of Canada's original microbreweries, or embark on a whale-watching tour; there are plenty of things to discover on the peninsula. And here is the bonus that we promised. Did you know you can experience world-class skiing less than an hour away from Vancouver? If you're there during winter months, jump on a convenient ski bus from Downtown Vancouver and ski down the slopes at Grouse Mountain, Cypress Mountain, or Mt Seymour Resort. And if you're willing to ride just a little farther, try one of the best ski resorts in North America - Whistler Blackcomb. You can also explore the mountains during the summer or embark on a hiking adventure and experience breathtaking nature of Vancouver surroundings, like Bowen and Vancouver Islands. We wish you a fantastic trip to Vancouver.

2023.06.06 05:38 Substantial_Ad_6401 I Feel Like I'm Right Back To Where I Was A Year Ago

It's been a hot minute since I've written an update. I wish I could say I feel like things have changed, but I don't feel like they have. I just can't get a grip on my urges. Like I know I want to stop but every time they come I don't even try to fight it anymore. I can't believe that I've become this.
I just can't get my thoughts together. I feel like I can't deal with it until I deal with something else first.
I don't want to be this, but I don't know how to take control again. For anyone who is familiar with my past logs (unlikely as it is), you'd know that I was going through it. And for those who aren't, very long story short, I fell in love for the first time. And and after the amazing few months, all I ended up with was a heart that hasn't just been broken, but utterly destroyed.
I don't understand why I still feel like this. It happened in January after all. At first I didn't want to give up. I was convinced that we would end up together. Everything just seemed perfect between us, to me at least. I never wanted to influence her or push too much, and I don't think I did. But I also didn't want to hear no, so I kept trying to build a relationship that wouldn't happen.
After some complications with another guy, (Another long story short I heard him say some suspicious things about her and I told her about it.) she told me she wasn't looking to date anyone because she felt like guys in high school aren't mature enough, which to be honest I thought was fair.
After a while of no contact, I started to allow myself to let go. I was having fun with friends again and I was genuinely happy for the first time in months. It still hurt a little when we walked by each other, but I knew it wouldn't last.
We passed by each other everyday before 3rd period, I would always be talking with my friends, but I noticed her every time without fail. Sometimes I wonder if she ever noticed me. She didn't act like it.
One day, before third period, I saw the guy from earlier. This was odd because I knew what his 3rd period was and it was on the other side of the building. As I'm talking with my friends I see her walk by and begin to walk down the hall with him. I saw her reach for his hand, and he held it as they smiled at each other. My heart sank.
I didn't understand why it was all coming back, I was finally getting better and since then I've been going through it again. I guess it doesn't really make sense as to why I can't keep a streak.
I just don't know how to deal with it all. The past year has gone by so quickly and with so many challenges, yet I feel like I'm right where I was last summer. Although maybe I could look at it as an opportunity to redo it all. It won't actually be a redo, but I can do things differently perhaps.
I think the reason I blame my heartbreak for my urges taking control of me is because before that, she was what filled my heart. I mean every minute my heart could race at the thought of her. And I even got excited to go to school just to see her smile at me. She had one special smile. I think that when it happened, I began to feel a hole that she left that was intricately designed for her, and nothing could fill it. So my bad habits came in and tried to fill that hole for me, to forget about her in the moment and it worked.
However, every time I do it I just feel even worse than I did before. Which I forget the next time the urges hit again. I just keep digging and digging myself a hole and I don't know how I'm supposed to stop.

2023.06.06 05:30 ChickenLordCV Disco Elysium Skills, part 1/4: Intellect

Disco Elysium is a roleplaying game in which players take on the role of an amnesiac detective who has been tasked with solving a murder in the midst of a heated labour dispute. Events are resolved through skill checks and dialogue trees via a system of 24 skills that represent different aspects of the protagonist.
I'm interested in seeing which skills people who peruse this subreddit gravitate towards and in what capacity ideology plays a part, though it's hard to discern the latter with only six options, so feel free to say which skill you chose and why in the comments.

Logic

Wield raw intellectual power. Deduce the world.
Cool for: Analysts. Pure Rationalists. Obviously Logicians.
Logic urges you to analyze the living daylights out of the case. It enables you to piece evidence together, detect inconsistencies in statements, and impress everyone with your astonishing conclusions. It’s the bread and butter of many a detective.
At high levels, Logic will be able to solve even the most complicated puzzle. You will be very proud, and thus susceptible to intellectual flattery; for those blinded by their own brilliance often miss important clues. With low levels of Logic, you’re going to have a hard time solving even the simplest puzzles. Even if you find the pieces, good luck putting them together.

Encyclopedia

Call upon all your knowledge. Produce fascinating trivia.
Cool for: Thinkers. Historians. Trivia Freaks.
Encyclopedia makes you a know-it-all, turning your mind into a database of facts. It enables you to draw on these facts innately, offering a wealth of background knowledge to all things related and unrelated to your case. Who knows when the history of cigarette brands will provide the breakthrough you need to arrest a murderer – or when knowledge of pre-Revolutionary guns might save a life?
At high levels, Encyclopedia shares this wealth of knowledge to an almost overwhelming degree – while it may give you crucial breakthroughs, it more often will clutter your mind with useless tidbits. With low levels of Encyclopedia, though, you’ll be forced to work with only the clues in front of you. Without any background knowledge, copping is going to be tough stuff.

Rhetoric

Practice the art of persuasion. Enjoy rigorous intellectual discourse.
Cool for: Ideologues. Conversationalists. Would-Be-Politicians.
Rhetoric urges you to debate, make intellectual discourse, nitpick – and win. It enables you to break down arguments and hear what people are really saying. You’ll spot fallacies as soon as they’re used – what exactly did the waiter leave out of their testimony? What was the dancer trying to divert you from? Was that double entendre intended, or did you just get an accidental lead?
At high levels, Rhetoric will make you an impressive political beast – one whose beliefs are impenetrable. Which is to say, one whose mind will not change; one who will calcify. With low Rhetoric, though, you’ll have a hard time of shooting down any argument. Nailing people to their testimonies will be nigh impossible.

Drama

Play the actor. Lie – and detect lies.
Cool for: Undercover Cops. Thespians of the Stage. Psychopaths.
Drama urges you to treat the world as a stage – and on it, to perform. It will enable you to lie, to concoct the most elaborate and wonderful stories; to take on ingenious personas and perform acts of stagecraft in an entertaining amalgam of fourberie and deceit! As well, it enables you to see through would-be actors and their false antics. If they lie, you’ll know. Immediately.
At high levels, Drama may render you an insufferable thespian – one prone to hysterics and bouts of paranoia; for to know the world is a stage is to know that Truth is a Vanity. However, with low Drama you cannot lie – or discern when others lie. And a cop who can’t do either is a cop who’s soon going to be lying six feet under.

Conceptualization

Understand creativity. See Art in the world.
Cool for: Creatives. Psychedelic Fanciers. Critics.
Conceptualization has a special role it wants you to play in this world – not the role of cop, but of Art Cop. It enables you to make fresh associations, to delve into world-concepts from Jan Kaarp’s postmodernist karperie, to Revachol’s arabesque architectural style dideridada, and even the concept of HARDCORE – and then, importantly, to add your own contribution to these works.
At high levels, Conceptualization makes you go big – perhaps too big. It is ostentatious, demanding grand displays. Why live life when you can throw yourself into a live volcano? At low levels, however, you will be unable to see the world in a creative light. You’ll be unable to contribute to conversations in an art gallery. Only boring people will invite you to their dust parties.

Visual Calculus

Reconstruct crime scenes. Make laws of physics work for the Law.
Cool for: Forensics Scientists. Tactical Fighters. Math-Minded People.
Visual Calculus verses you not only in the laws of the state, but the laws of nature. It enables you to create virtual crime-scene models in your mind’s eye. You’ll see how a bullet shattered the glass, and from that trace its trajectory with mathematical precision. You’ll also count so many footprints – and at a glance discern shoe size and design; as well as the height, weight, and gender of the one who wore them.
At high levels, Visual Calculus makes the world reveal its secrets to you – but you may be so absorbed by your mind-diorama, you don’t notice as crooks steal your pants. However, at low levels, your mind’s eye will be blind. Reconstructing crime scenes will be difficult without outside help.

2023.06.06 05:29 Heavy-Kale-5638 Almost 30 and Not So Flirty

I need to get this off of my chest as I don’t feel like I have anyone in my life I can really go to about this. I (F) am coming up on 30 years old. I’ve never had a REAL serious relationship. I’ve had flings, situationships, and short relationships that have never gone past a couple of months. That being no fault of my own as I was always cheated on and used sexually and financially. I always find myself going above and beyond to try and make another person happy and feel appreciated, as that’s what I’ve always wanted.
Friends always say “it’s not you, it’s them.” And for a while I believed that. But when it has happened over and over for years and years… it feels like me, you know?
I know I’m not a 10/10, but I have a heart of gold and love making others happy. A couple of years ago I started my own charity and help rescue animals in need. I take pride in being a good person. I know I don’t deserve how I’ve been treated.
I was a late bloomer for sure. I was an ugly kid and teen, I’ll admit that LOL. I never had guys showing me any interest until AFTER high school ended. I was picked on for my looks, I never was asked to a school dance, never asked on a date. I feel like that may have something to do with how I feel. I can’t describe it, but I’ve seen tiktoks about it that have hit the nail on the head. I hope you know what I mean!
Every time something ends with a guy, it sends me into a depression and I end up isolating for a while. I’ve been alone for a few years now and before you say anything, yes I have found happiness alone. I do everything alone, and I’m even going on my very first vacation in my whole life this summer: yep, alone. I’m happy alone otherwise. I have been on every dating app and the pickings are very slim. “Love will come when you’re not looking for it.” That’s what I’m always told. Well for a while I stopped looking because I gave up and just did my own thing. Still nothing. Just more and more failed “talking” stages that go nowhere or end with them choosing another girl over me. Or them only seeing me as a sexual object and not as a human being. I don’t understand… all of my exes have treated me like garbage, but I see them dating other people and treating them better than they ever did me. I feel like people only date me to feel better about themself or date me if they are broken and need fixing, and then go off to somebody else when I have served my purpose to them. They claimed to care about me, but then did me so so so dirty. I don’t understand. I know my purpose on this earth isn’t to be a human punching bag, but that’s how it feels.
I’m sorry this is so all over the place. Writing is not my strong suit and my ADHD brain goes a mile a minute. I guess the point is…. I just feel alone. No one else in my life has this problem. They’re all in happy relationships and marriages. They can’t relate when I try to get this off of my chest and therefore don’t have anything really constructive to say. I am a good person… When is it my turn to have love? When is it my turn to be someone’s main priority and the love of their life? When is it my turn to not have to do every single piece of life by myself? When will someone choose me over other girls they may be talking to or choose me over scrolling on dating apps? When will someone say they love me and actually mean it and not be talking to other girls at the same time? When is it my turn to not be ghosted at every turn when I do nothing wrong? When is it my turn to get random phone calls and text messages with sweet words that make me feel on top of the world? When can I come home to somebody after a long day and find solace in their company? I long for the day where everything about a relationship is no longer one-sided, where I am no longer making all of the effort and paying for everything just so we can do things, where someone looks forward to hearing from me every day. I’ve even tried making less effort and trying hard not to be “too much”, trying to be the “cool girl” who doesn’t come off as overly interested, and I still don’t have guys chasing me like everyone says that attitude will bring, if that makes sense without sounding pretentious. I still can’t help but to feel like I am doing something wrong or that something is wrong with me. Having BPD, anxiety, and depression really messes with my head.
Again, I am content alone, I have found happiness in myself and doing things that I enjoy without having to worry about another person. I do so many fun things by myself. All of my friends live far away, I don’t have anyone where I live now that I can hang out with and do things with and even be introduced to other people from. Making real friendships as an adult has proved to be very difficult. I kind of have the same feelings about relationships as I do towards friendships as well, never being anyone’s first choice, but that’s a post for another time lol. But as I go through life and see couples in public and in movies/videos, I just can’t help but feel bitter and jealous. I can’t even listen to songs about love without getting a little upset. I really enjoy the time I can spend by myself doing whatever I want whenever I want, but sometimes I can’t help but to think how amazing it must be to share life with somebody. To have someone I can talk to and share everything with and vice versa. I long for the day that I can have somebody to buy a house with, as where I live is very expensive and though I have tried, I can’t afford it alone and I really want to get out of the living situation that I am in now. I just want a companion and to feel real love for the first time in my life, something I have never experienced. I really hope that I am not alone in this, and that somewhere, someone else feels the same and can relate to me. Constant isolation is really taking its toll on me. I don’t want to feel this way anymore, I want to be happy and find love, but I am sick and tired of being treated like shit by guys when I do nothing wrong to deserve it. Trust me, I’m not going to jump into a relationship with the first guy who gives me attention; I am not settling for anything less than what I know I deserve. But I can’t help feeling the way that I feel… I am doing my best despite everything life is throwing at me and all of the other stressors in my every day life.
Again, I am so sorry this was all over the place, it’s so hard to get my thoughts together and I really needed to get this off of my chest as I have been crying about this for days straight. Thank you for letting me vent, and if you have anything kind to say, some good solid advice, or share the same feelings, please let me know. I’m not quite sure what to do anymore..

2023.06.06 05:21 RoseBeaty My 33 $1 Color Club Mystery polishes arrived!

My 33 $1 Color Club Mystery polishes arrived!
I placed my order on May 25 and received it today, June 5. I only received one duplicate polish and that is a dark berry red polish named “Killer Curves”. I was worried about getting dupes but luckily it was only that one.
Note: I included “XO” the heart glitter polish in my photos but that one was not random.
I have included multiple photos of my haul (it’s quite massive and I still can’t believe I got this many polishes at once) with different angles, and also pictures of the polishes swatched. I layer them out in the same order on all photos to make it easier to see the polishes in different angles and on the swatch sticks.
I’m quite happy with my haul, in particular because of the bright orange which I was planning on ordering full price for the summer. I also like that I got some colors and shades I would have purchased my self and I felt that this haul helped round out my collection a bit more.
I will note that I struggled capturing the dark shades in the bottom row and they look similar, but I only got the one dupe. “Cup of Cocoa” is such a deep brown that it looks black on the swatch stick, I wonder if it will look different on the nails. The other dark shade is a black named “Where’s the Soiree”.
If anyone wants better photos or has any questions, feel free to ask! ☺️ I will list all the polishes in the comments after I write them all out. It might take a few minutes since there’s so many! 🥴

2023.06.06 05:12 WasdCritics It Takes Two

It Takes Two
It Takes Two, the latest work from Hazelight Studios that follows, in part, the model of A Way Out, manages to surpass in many ways its spiritual predecessor, presenting an extremely deep and moving story that deals with sensitive issues in a playful and serious way at the same time.
The game tells us a story of a couple who are about to separate and by an innocent wish of a child are put through trials to restructure their marriage, the title deals directly with issues concerning the daughter and the couple itself, showing problems and mistakes that all couples can make.
The progression of the game's story is well done, the cinematics play an important role in the game's story, but it's not as if the gameplay is only an intermission between cinematics, as if it were the journey between locations and the role of telling the story is left to the cinematics. The gameplay tells a story in itself, not only by the dialogs between Cody and May but by the puzzle mechanics that require collaboration and are directly linked to the points that need to be worked on by the couple with the goal of reconciliation.
The key word that defines the game is collaboration, it is the most emphatic word in the whole game, even when the focus of the reconciliation attempt transits to more specific themes in the final chapters, such as the theme of time, attraction and passion, the idea of collaboration is still present. This collaboration that is extremely important for any couple is reflected in the very mechanical proposal of the game, this idea is fantastic on the part of the developers, there are few games that communicate so well the plot with the game mechanics.
The mechanical proposal of It Takes Two follows that of AWO, the screen divided in two and the need for two players to play the game, the gameplay is shared between the players and collaboration is required. The proposal itself is a bit risky thinking about the need to have someone to play with, since many players don't have that person to play with or don't want to play with anyone. However, this concern is unnecessary considering the amount of sales the game has achieved.
The Puzzle is used for the progression of the story, only with its resolution is it possible to continue and progress in the game, this choice makes a lot of sense if you think about the purpose of a puzzle, a puzzle, confusing, disorganized and that needs to be fixed, it seems to me that this idea communicates very well with the idea of reconciliation.
This repetition of the mechanics inherited from AWO proposed by Hazelight generates an illogical feeling at a first moment, this feeling goes through the idea that maybe the mechanical recycling was too much and the titles would be too similar, mainly thinking about the gameplay, but this is not the case, It Takes Two manages to present mechanical originality within the proposal already given from its predecessor game.
https://preview.redd.it/fdrjk1reeb4b1.jpg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a88eee0c81ac3b27736cfdbd96bbf3a1a21aa941
The mechanical originality is linked to the very proposal of the game's story, as the game is about a couple trying to reconcile one of the main points that must be worked is the collaboration (Even Dr Hakim makes this clear). This collaboration is conceived thinking in the idea of a couple where each must do their part to help the other, this is reflected in the mechanics where at times May must follow in front and Cody go helping her to continue while he stays behind and at other times is the opposite, there is always the idea that each one has its moment and that it is important to give the turn and the protagonism to the other.
Unlike AWO, It Takes Two presents a greater variety of mechanics throughout the chapters of the game, at the time of the cabin for example Cody gets nails and May a hammer, already in the tree of squirrels May receives a gun of matches and Cody a sap cannon, there are several other mechanics throughout the game, but all follow the same idea, all of them work individually and together, there are times when to cross an obstacle is necessary only action of one of them and some moments it is necessary that the tools are used together. This reinforces an important point in a couple's relationship, where at certain moments someone must be proactive and solve a problem, but at several others working together is the only solution.
Aesthetically the game proposes a cartoon with details that communicate directly with the conception of the story of the work. The cartoon used here makes sense if you think that this world is created by a "magic" book at the request of an innocent child, the playfulness of early childhood is brought into the aesthetic proposal, as if it were a child's dream. But this world created by Dr. Hakim, is not lost in relation to reality, the actions performed by both in the real world affect this "new world", such as Cody's lost underwear that becomes a hang glider in the squirrel tree. The character design is directly connected with the game's proposal, Cody's doll is made of clay and May's doll is made of wood, the difference between the two is on a material level, this idea is fantastic to expose in the characterization of the characters the problem of separation.
The plot manages to work the various problems of the couple in a direct and intelligent way, using very well the scenario and the mechanics to achieve this goal, as when working the attraction, Cody receives half of a magnet and May receives the other half. As each of the couple's problems are overcome, the rapprochement becomes clearer, but with friction still present, especially in the characters' lines. The title demonstrates with geniality the problems that fights and arguments can cause, sometimes couples' fights reflect on those who are close, even the children, this is portrayed in the game in a thorny way and hurts the players to the extent that they assume this role of parents, it is an immersion that causes discomfort and awakens unwanted and necessary feelings and reflections. The problem of reconciliation when solved gives way to the problem of Rose's feelings that remain in the background throughout the game, and its resolution although simple, with a single cinematic is enough to conclude an exceptional story.
An interesting detail of the work is that they perform a deconstruction in the couple of Cody and May, Cody takes care of the house and likes gardening and May works to support the house as an engineer and loves to sing, the way it is developed this inversion of a conservative standard is assertive, precisely because it is placed as natural, at no time is given relevance to this fact, the naturalness makes the criticism is deep and comprehensive.
It Takes Two manages to maintain a harmony between all the elements that compose it as a work, everything communicates with each other and works together to build this experience that is brilliantly presented by Hazelight Studios. In every kind of art there are certain works that need to be consumed, because they are made with excellence and express the genius of the authors, It Takes Two is one of those works.
