Coping with flying

2023.06.06 07:29 ZeroPenguinParty Coping with flying

I am a person who has always loved travelling, but never had the opportunities to travel too far. Anywhere I needed to travel to, was always within my own country, and would always be by land based transport...I could be in a car, a bus, or a train. A few times I have been in a boat of some kind (such as a ferry), but generally those trips have been no more than an hour.

There came a time where I was going to have to make a rush trip interstate...by rush, I meant I didn't have the time in my schedule to spend 24 hours on a bus or a train in either direction. I was going to have to fly. And now comes the dilemna...I am scared of heights. So how am I supposed to cope with flying?

Then I remembered a movie called Boys And Girls. It stars Freddie Prinze Jr, Jason Biggs, Claire Forlani, and a few others. Freddie Prinze Jr's character was also scared of flying, and the way he coped with it was closing his eyes, taking deep breaths, and counting to himself...all while the plane was on the runway, starting to take off. So, I thought I would give it a shot, and sure enough, it worked. Well, as far as I know, it worked...I have nothing to compare it to.

The next time I flew after this, I found that I didn't need to count. And the time after that, I discovered that I didn't need to close my eyes. And the time after that, I realised I didn't need to breathe heavily. And the time after that, I looked out the window and saw all the different paddocks, and little towns, that planes fly over, between airports.

Eventually, I wasn't even thinking about what to do when I got on a plane...but started thinking of all the people below, in the paddocks, in the country towns, and just what they may be thinking when they see a plane flying overhead. And all this has lead to something I often do in the current era...I could be walking along the street, see a plane flying overhead, and wonder whether there is someone on the plane, breathing heavily, with their eyes closed, and counting to themselves.

2023.06.06 07:22 autotldr Russia to face Ukraine at UN court over downing of flight MH17

This is the best tl;dr I could make, original reduced by 62%. (I'm a bot)
Ukraine and Russia are scheduled to face off at the International Court of Justice - the top United Nations court - over Moscow's support for pro-Russian forces blamed for "Insurrection" against the Ukrainian state and armed violence that included the shooting down of Malaysian Airlines Flight MH17 in 2014, killing all 298 passengers and crew.
Judges at the ICJ in The Hague will hear Ukraine's claim on Tuesday that Moscow violated a UN anti-terrorism treaty by equipping and funding pro-Russian separatists, who international investigators concluded had used a Russian missile to shoot down the Malaysian jetliner over eastern Ukraine almost 10 years ago.
Ukraine is seeking damages for the fighting, which began in 2014 and lead to approximately 13,000 people killed in the eight years that led up to Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
Tuesday's hearing will be the first time lawyers for Ukraine and Russia meet at the ICJ, also known as the World Court, since Moscow launched its full-scale invasion.
The court also found that Russia had "Overall control" over forces in the so-called Donetsk People's Republic in eastern Ukraine since mid-May 2014.
A finding by the ICJ that Russia equipped and funded fighters in eastern Ukraine responsible for the MH17 disaster would be a defeat for Moscow, which has repeatedly denied sending troops or military equipment to eastern Ukraine in 2014.

2023.06.06 06:35 Visible_1522 Feedback on my resume

So I’ve been applying to positions within the company I work for, but will immediately be denied shortly after submitting my application. I’ve been trying to get into any Human Resources or workforce positions but have not had any luck. Have gone as far as emailing the hiring managers after submitting the applications receiving no replies. I could really use some feedback on improving my resume since I feel that may be a part of the problem. I’m open to any suggestions! Thanks!

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will be in theaters beginning June 2. If you're wondering how and where you can watch it yourself, take a look at the information below. Miles Morales returns for the next chapter of the Oscar-winning Spider-Verse saga, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. After reuniting with Gwen Stacy, Brooklyn’s full-time, friendly neighborhood Spider-Man is catapulted across the Multiverse, where he encounters the Spider Society, a team of Spider-People charged with protecting the Multiverse’s very existence. But when the heroes clash on how to handle a new threat, Miles finds himself pitted against the other Spiders and must set out on his own to save those he loves most. Anyone can wear the mask – it’s how you wear it that makes you a hero. The much-anticipated Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is only a few weeks away, and fans can’t wait to see the new adventures of Miles Morales. Once the Sony Pictures-produced movie ends its theatrical run, it will come to the most popular streamers, including Netflix and Disney Plus. But when is Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse coming to Netflix and Disney Plus? Here’s what you need to know. 'Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse' features the return of Shameik Moore as Miles Morales and Hailee Steinfeld as Gwen Stacy. Just before the release of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, producers of the feature have announced a couple of other projects. Producer Amy Pascal has announced a forthcoming third installment titled Beyond the Spider-Verse expected to be released next year. That is not the only project announced. Paint-on-glass, Realistic Cartoon-style to Japanese Manga, makers explore not a couple but way too many animation styles! Shameik Moore’s Miles, in a way, gets a Star-Lord-like treatment in which he beautifully balances his character arc without overstepping the broader scheme of things. Hailee Steinfeld’s Gwen finally gets a chance to narrate her side of things, and it mixes well with the ‘star-crossed’ relationship she’s currently sharing with Miles. If you’re like just about everyone else on the planet who saw Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse in 2018 and loved it, you’ve probably been waiting for the sequel. You won’t be waiting long, as Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is finally coming out in 2023, a full five years later. It’s been a long wait but by all indications the film is going to be a blast for fans of comic book movies, Miles Morales’ version of Spider-Man, and this new animated franchise featuring the iconic webslinger. Modern cinema has seen the gap between theatrical and streaming releases shorten dramatically, begging the question of when Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will release online. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, streaming releases have been much closer to the theatrical release of films. While the mid-COVID marketing technique of releasing movies in theaters and on streaming services at the same time for an extra price is a thing of the past, the gap between the respective releases is still considerably shorter than in decades past. While we currently don’t know the exact online release date for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, we do know the movie will be released in cinemas worldwide, including the US and UK, on June 2nd, 2023. We know where to watch Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse online, but do we also know when? We can guess once again, assuming it charts the same theater-to-streaming path as Into the Spider-Verse did in 2018 with two months between the theatrical release and its digital renting/buying services. You may be able to buy or rent the movie digitally as early as late July of this year, with a physical release roughly a month or so after that, if not sooner. This also means that you will probably be able to stream Spider-Man: Across on Netflix in early December 2023, as it took about six months from Into the Spider-Verse’s release before the movie landed on the streamer. When Is the Release Date for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse? Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse was one of the many films to get hit by a delay due to the COVID-19 pandemic, moving from its original date of April 8, 2022, to October 7, 2022. That's the date seen in the above trailer, but the film has since seen another significant delay since then. Now the film is officially set for release on June 2, 2023. Hopefully, we won't see another delay, but if it means getting a sequel that lives up to the sky-high heights of the original, we'll gladly wait. Is Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse in Theaters? Not only was Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse the subject of rave reviews, but it also pulled in some gargantuan levels of cash at the international box office, with a final tally that quadrupled the film's ninety-million dollar budget. With incredible success like that, it's only natural that Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse would also be taking advantage of a theatrical release. That is the case, as the upcoming film will be exclusively available in theaters when it premieres on June 2nd, 2023. When is 'Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse' streaming? Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse The home distribution rights for Across the Spider-Verse are in a rather interesting place. In April 2021, it was reported that Sony Studios had signed a multiyear deal with both Netflix and Disney for shared streaming rights to Sony films coming out between 2022 and 2026. This deal includes Across the Spider-Verse as well as the third film in the series, Beyond the Spider-Verse, due out in March 2024. As for releases like Across the Spider-Verse, the film will be available on Netflix with "first-pay-window-rights" for the first 18 months of its home media release. While it will not be streaming concurrently with its theatrical release, it will be available on Netflix following its theatrical run. Some of the films are not currently available on the service because Sony has pre-existing partnerships with Starz, as that's where most of the absent films are available to stream. That is except for Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, which is instead only streaming on Fubo TV and FX Now. For anyone else looking to watch the film as soon as possible, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will be released in theaters on June 2. How to Watch Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse At the moment, you can watch Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse at your local theater. But like most movies these days, it should hit a streaming website in the near future. Like its predecessor, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is a flick produced by multimedia conglomerate Disney. What's more, the production studio owns a number of other famous franchises, like the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Star Wars. Titles made under these umbrellas have both hit Disney+ sometime after arriving at the box office. Fans may also know the original Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is currently available to stream on the site as well. So, if the 2023 version follows the same pattern, folks will likely get to see Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse on Disney+ later this year too. As for an exact release date for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, that's more complicated. Most movies produced by Disney often go to its streamer site within three months after debuting in theaters, like the most recent Marvel film Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. If this is the case for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, it will probably drop in late August 2023 or sometime near Labor Day in early September. When the time comes for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse to splash onto Disney+ though, make sure you're all prepared to watch it. If you don't have access yet, you can opt into a 30-day free trial before choosing a plan that start at $7.99 per month or $79.99 per year. After your account is all set, click on the title page on Disney+'s official website or the Disney+ app. As you wait for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse to hit the streamer, why don't you watch the animated version and its sequel Spider-Man: into the Spider-Verse? Or if you want to immerse yourself in another live-action version, click on the 2019 ABC TV special Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Live!. Enjoy! Where To Watch Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Online: As of now, the only way to watch Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is to head out to a movie theater when it premieres on June 2, 2023. You can find a local showing on Fandango. Otherwise, you’ll just have to wait for it to become available to rent or purchase on digital platforms like Amazon, Vudu, YouTube or Apple, or become available to stream on Disney+. Is Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse coming to Netflix? Yes, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is coming to Netflix approximately in December 2023. In 2021, Sony and Netflix signed a five-year deal that gave the latter exclusive first-pay-window U.S. streaming rights for Sony Pictures titles after their theatrical and home entertainment windows. Fans can expect to watch Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse on Netflix six months after the film’s theatrical release, thus in December 2023. The date seems reasonable considering that Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse dropped on Netflix on June 26, 2019, six months after its U.S. release on December 14, 2018. The pay-one window usually begins about nine months after a film’s theatrical release, but it might start earlier in particular cases. This post will be updated once there is a 100% officially confirmed Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Netflix release date. When Will Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse Be Available On Netflix? Where will Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse stream specifically? Due to an ongoing deal between Netflix and Sony (remember that these movies are not produced by Disney), Across the Spider-Verse will see Netflix as the streaming home for the film when it finishes its theatrical run. It will no doubt make its way to Disney+ eventually, as Disney and Sony do have an agreement for Disney to include Sony’s Spider-Man content in their offerings, but that will at least be some time after Across the Spider-Verse has come out on Netflix. In terms of which of the streaming giants Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will be released on, Netflix will house the film upon its streaming debut. While again, Sony does not have its own dedicated streaming service, a deal was struck in 2021 between the studio and Netflix. The deal, stating that Netflix would stream Sony's films after theatrical release, was penned for 5 years meaning Across the Spider-Verse is part of the arrangement. Is Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse coming to Disney Plus? Yes, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is also coming to Disney Plus approximately in 2025. Once the pay-one window runs its time and Netflix’s exclusive rights expire, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will be available on Disney Plus. The pay-one window might last as long as 18 months, which means it will be a while before Disney Plus subscribers can watch the much-anticipated sequel. Unlike in other countries, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse isn’t yet available on the Disney-owned streamer in the U.S. While Sony's Spider-Man content is also streaming on Disney+, due to the collaborations between Sony and Marvel Studios in recent years, Across the Spider-Verse will be a Netflix release. While the deal struck between Marvel Studios and Sony may extend to this film, Disney+ is only allowed to begin streaming Sony's Spider-Man releases upon their release on Netflix. As a result, Netflix will be the first streaming service that Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will be available on after its theatrical release. Regarding when the film will be available on Netflix, the answer is less definitive. The first film, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, began streaming six months after its theatrical release. Based on this, it is safe to assume Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will see a similar gap between its cinematic and streaming releases. Given the film's theatrical release of June 2, 2023, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will likely begin streaming on Netflix in December 2023. Will Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Be On HBO Max? No, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will not be on HBO Max since it’s not a Universal Pictures movie. Last year, the company released its films in theaters and on the streamer on the same day. However, they now allow a 45-day window between the theatrical release and the streaming release. Is Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Available On Hulu? Viewers are saying that they want to view the new animation movie Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse on Hulu. Unfortunately, this is not possible since Hulu currently does not offer any of the free episodes of this series streaming at this time. It will be exclusive to the MTV channel, which you get by subscribing to cable or satellite TV services. You will not be able to watch it on Hulu or any other free streaming service. 2023.06.06 05:04 Mithcanal2 If you had the Power how would you change the seeding system at RG?

It's been somewhat of a joke these last three years that the French Open draws seem all but certain to schedule high quality match ups too early, and to have a massive mismatch in terms of ability on clay between the top and bottom halves of the draws.
What's the best way to address this problem? I've hear a lot of discussion of inflating the valuation of clay court ATP points, similar to how Wimbledon used to seed it's tournament.
No hate whatsoever to anyone who's enjoyed the draws these last three years, but I'd love to hear thoughts on how fans here would change things if they could.
Brief summary of the last three years and what's gotten people so upset.
2021 - Big three all in the top same half of the draw, the bottom half of the draw having only 1 former finalist at the tournament (Thiem, who lost in Round 1). Most people would agree that Nadal and Djokovic's legendary Semi Final was the match of the tournament, somewhat overshadowing the final in terms of quality.
2022 - Djokovic the defending Champion, Nadal the 13 time champion, along with at the time 3rd favourite Alcaraz, and Zverev who had just made the SF or better of every Clay masters that season being crammed into 1 half of the draw. Led to a final that it's fair to say was a complete beat down, Nadal winning 18 games, to Ruud's 6.
2023 - Djokovic, Tsitsipas, and Alcaraz have found themselves all in the top half, with Rune and Ruud, the two clay best clay court players in the bottom half meeting in a QF, for a match that should have at least been a semi final.

2023.06.06 05:00 Exciting_Credit_3614 The trees, the damn trees

We moved into our house January 2019. Our yard has some tall willows that have been constant stress since day one (actually before but that’s irrelevant now). But, shortly after we moved in the old owners fulfilled their obligations to the town to have them trimmed back a bit.
Fast forward to late summer 2021. We get another complaint from the town about the trees. The town wanted the work completed in 30 days but due to scheduling with our tree company and weather (New York winter) the work didn’t get completed until March 2022. The work that was required was trimming of the trees and the town inspected and our obligation was (again) fulfilled.
In the meantime, we learn it’s the people behind us making the complaints. We had an arborist look at the trees at the time the complaint came in 2021 and said, while big, they are healthy. I only worry about them when it’s windy (which would be the case with any tree really). These neighbors keep using information given to them about the trees from 2018. Therefore, the complaints have been satisfied twice based on what they have.
Last summer we received a letter from them complaining again and giving us a timeline to do something before basically suing us. They cited the fact that this has been an issue for 40 years and that they think we bought the house from the previous owners (not true and actually irrelevant but perhaps part of the reason they take all this out on us). I think their biggest beef is the leaves, which sure they’re messy but not horrible and we certain don’t have the only willows in the neighborhood or even the messies trees. But they definitely take the leaves they scoop up and dump in our yard. So tonight I was in the back yard and decided to power wash the fence. I wanted to really get it and get the top but it’s lattice and I knew if I did the water could go through onto their yard. So, after doing it for a few seconds I stopped. I didn’t feel like being a total asshole. But then I see the man standing on his porch watching me as if I was doing something wrong. It’s technically their fence by the way. Later, my husband heard them bitching about it on the phone.
The thing is, had they come to us like normal people instead of assuming and complaining we may have worked something out. But they hid behind assumptions and letters and didn’t face use. And now I’m just pissed. They’re taking 40 years of frustration out on us and it’s unfair. Anyway that’s my rant. Thanks if you read it all.

Some context/a little back story: Since April of last year, I've been working with a Physical Therapist. After a year of PT I was told by my therapist I was officially done. He then offered to take me on as a client for Personal Training. He suggested I try natural body building since the year prior I had put on 30 pounds of muscle working with him. I told him that sounded like an awesome idea!
The reason I'm mentioning this, is because I was put on a strict diet and workout routine. And once a week I've been going to see him for weigh-in's and just to talk about how everything is going. Well after 8 weeks of measurements, my trainer called me in to have a somewhat serious conversation. During the 8 weeks of training, my chest only grew 1cm. Whereas my legs grew more than 5cm. After he told me this, he asked me a bunch of random questions (I'll provide my answers as well):
After I answered these questions, he told me he was concerned about my lack of progress since being with him. He explained that by week 6 of this 8 week program, I should have noticed results. Yet I barely grew at all. And barely lost any body fat, specifically in my lower back. He was especially concerned since the year prior I had gained 30 pounds of muscle. I shouldn't have suddenly plateaued this quickly. He told me he was going to speak with my doctor and suggested I set up an appointment to have my testosterone levels tested.
I scheduled an appointment to get the blood work done on May 5th. A week later, my results came in on May 12th. My doctor calls me and tells me that my Testosterone came back at only 219. The "normal" range is 300 (low end) to 1100 (high end). Based on my diet, age (31 year old male), and how often I workout, my levels should be between 550 and 650. The fact that my levels were low and not even in the "normal" range alarmed him. However, he said that this didn't necessarily mean anything. He said I would need to get my levels tested again to confirm the results, and this time he was also going to test my LH and FSH levels.
I scheduled my bloodwork again, for May15th, and came back May 23rd:
On Wednesday of last week, my doctor gave me a call and went into more detail about all of the bloodwork that was done. He admitted right away that he was confused by results and concerned. (Can already tell this isn't going to be a "fun" conversation). He explained to me that because my LH, FSH and Testosterone are all on the low end (despite the FSH being barely in the normal range). The reason this alarmed him was because if one hormone is low, the other hormone will go into overdrive so the body can produce testosterone. However, since they're all low, it indicated that there was a strong possibility of a brain tumor called Pituitary Adenoma pressing on the Pituitary Gland. These are also one of the very few tumors that can be determined by the hormone levels in the blood. He did mention that they're usually benign/non-cancerous. However, because I'm getting headaches and ocular migraines (on top of my other symptoms), they need to take this seriously/quickly.
He wasn't joking about moving quickly either. Since Wednesday of last week, I've had the following appointments scheduled:
It hasn't hit me yet that this is happening to me. And I'm scared it won't become a reality until next Tuesday when I go in for my MRI. Luckily they're going to give me a bunch of happy drugs so I don't freak out. Right now, I feel like I'm stuck in time while the rest of the world is moving at a lightning pace.
The other issue is I'm having a very hard time focusing at work. I did tell my boss about my diagnosis and that I'm going to need a lot of time off over the next 2 to 3 weeks while I see these doctors to get an accurate diagnosis. He said not to worry about needing time off, but I am worried. I don't want to risk getting fired. My performance is already starting to fall because of this fog that I'm in. And he's noticing it...
What should I do at work? Has anyone else been through this before? Am I overreacting to feel this way? I know I need to take this one day at a time...but it just feels so surreal...

2023.06.06 03:36 sid00901 Will I get my OPT?

Hello everyone, I started pursuing my masters back in 2020 in arizona at a different school and then I went back to India in march of 2020 after that covid happened and everything transitioned to online I took a transfer to a different school and did the whole process of transferring the sevis ID while I was in the US I came to the US for a week in August and again went back to India I pursued my Fall 2020 semester online from back in India and then came to the US again in Spring 2021 and then too the schedule was online I took 9 credits both of the semesters but does that keep me in full time student status if it was entirely online for Fall 2020 even if I was studying back from india and Spring 2021 semester for my OPT. I also failed the Spring 2021 semester and took an N for all of my courses asked SEVIS already about it and they told me that I was in student status even if I was studying back from india for the Fall 2020 semester and also taking an N would not affect my status as a full time student due to covid after spring 2021 I took all of my courses online from Fall 2021 to Fall 2022 and also only took 6 credits for my Spring,Fall 2022 semesters and also my last semester that is Spring 2023 I took 6 credits out of which I was in class for 1 subject and the other one was my capstone which was entirely online. I’m really worried now that I have applied for my OPT and my receipt date is of apr28th and I haven’t heard back from them yet. Do you think I’d get the OPT or have to go back to India? Thanks

2023.06.06 03:32 Certifiedmidwife Legal Defense Tips for Midwives

Legal defense plays a very important role in the life of every midwife and other healthcare professionals. Why so? Because in midwifery, instances of litigation may occur, despite every midwife’s best effort in providing quality care. Since the relationship that is involved in every midwife to her patient/s is a situation where one person owes another a duty of care, it gets crucial when the patient get in danger. Midwife is responsible to the patient’s welfare, yet there are unavoidable things that may arise and so, every midwife must be prepared.
When a midwife does something that may cause damage, injury or loss to a patient, or even decides not to do something that also leads to damage, injury or loss of the patient, that is called “Negligence”. In law, medical malpractice is considered a specific area within the general domain of negligence. It requires four conditions (elements) be met for the plaintiff to recover damages. These conditions are: duty; breach of duty; harm; and causation. The second element, breach of duty, is synonymous with the “standard of care.”
Legally speaking, every medical practitioner, particularly midwives, are responsible for the safety of their patients and so they must perform their duty to the best of their ability. Getting sued for medical malpractice must be avoided as it is punishable by the law. To protect yourself and your practice against a malpractice lawsuit, you can use three powerful tools: documentation, compliance with policies and procedures, and malpractice insurance.
Documentation is a record of everything you do within your practice. Good documentation is key to avoiding liability, fraud, and abuse. You may be required to reimburse the money if your records don’t justify the items and services you have charged.
Compliance with policies and procedures. Maintaining compliance with HIPAA goes a long way. You want to make sure that you don’t share patient information on social media or any other source. It’s critical to practice proper HIPAA compliance standards by ensuring that you only discuss patient information with the patient, staff or authorized persons. Also, implement a strict data security system to help protect patient data.
Malpractice insurance is your sure way to go. It protects midwives and other healthcare professionals against claims alleging their negligent acts caused injury to patients. This insurance coverage protects healthcare providers against patients who file suits against them under the complaint that they were harmed by the professional’s negligence or intentionally harmful treatment decisions. Malpractice insurance also covers the death of a patient
Midwives need to actively work to avoid such issues, since a malpractice lawsuit could cause serious ruin both professionally and financially. Below we’ve detailed nine tips to help you avoid malpractice claims.
1) Document EVERYTHING
Your first line of defense against malpractice is proper documentation. Always document dates, times, events, and be extremely specific. We know you are busy, but you cannot afford to neglect documenting all your patient interactions and any actions you’ve personally taken.
2) Communicate
Clear communication with your patients is key to avoiding misunderstandings. Make sure your patients feel comfortable communicating their thoughts, questions, and concerns to you, and make sure you give them consistent updates and attention. As with your documentation, always be as clear and specific as possible, and if you think your patient doesn’t understand something, take pains to make sure they do.
3) Know policies and standards of care
Make sure you learn the policies and regulations of the facility in which you are working and take the time to consistently update your knowledge of oft changing professional standards of care for your area of medicine.
4) Don’t get lazy
We know how busy you are. We understand how overwhelming everything can get. You still cannot let any of your duties or responsibilities lapse. This includes tedious, administrative duties and other time-consuming necessities like documenting patient interactions.
5) Ask for help
Don’t try to be a hero or be too proud to ask for help. Know your limits and do not try to do something you don’t feel comfortable doing. Your pride could cause you to make a serious mistake that could literally ruin your career.
6) ALWAYS get informed consent
You know what they say about assuming… Make sure the patient understands and consents to the actions you plan to take every single time.
7) Strive to build strong relationships with patients
A good bedside manner and going the extra mile to make a patient comfortable can go a long way towards protecting you from potential malpractice claims. Happy patients rarely seek to sue their doctors or nurses.
8) Follow up
Follow up with your patients and follow up with other specialists or professionals involved in a patient’s treatment. Have a set schedule and protocol in place for following up that you will stick to with every patient.
9) Temper expectations and don’t promise what you can’t deliver
Always be realistic with your patients and temper their expectations of what your treatment will be able to achieve for them. Making promises that you know you can’t deliver on will not be worth briefly making the patient feel better when you are facing a serious malpractice suit later.
The code of ethics and conduct for midwifery is unique. Judges who are not qualified in midwifery must decide if a midwife has acted negligently. They depend on expert opinion and make decisions based on basic principles of reasonableness, prudence and fairness.

2023.06.06 03:19 Certifiedmidwife How To Grow Your Midwifery Business: The Slow Start is the Fast Finish

To succeed in the midwifery industry today, you must be adaptable and possess strong organizing and planning skills. Many people start a midwifery practice believing they will “open their doors” and begin making money right away, only to discover that it is considerably harder than they anticipated to locate clients, maintain overhead costs, and build a reputation in the community.
By taking your time and organizing all the required processes for success, you may prevent this in your midwifery practice. You can succeed in your endeavor by applying the following nine pieces of advice, regardless of the type of midwifery business you intend to launch.

9 Good tips For Growing a Midwifery Business

  1. Set up a system
You must be organized if you want to succeed in business as a midwife. It will assist you in completing activities and maintaining an organized schedule. Making a to-do list every day is a fantastic organizational strategy. Check each thing off your list as you finish it. By doing this, you can be sure that you won’t forget anything and will finish all the activities required to secure the sustainability of your company.
  1. Keep thorough records
Successful midwifery practice must maintain thorough records. You’ll be aware of the company’s financial situation and any prospective difficulties by doing this. Just being aware of this offers you the opportunity to develop plans to deal with those difficulties.
  1. Examine Your Competitors
Positive competition produces the finest outcomes. You must not be scared to research and pick up tips from your rivals if you want to succeed. After all, they might already be taking steps that you could adopt in your midwifery practice, ones that place a different focus on quality and individualized care than the doctor’s office down the street.
  1. Recognize the Benefits and Risks
Taking measured risks to advance your midwifery practice is the key to success. What’s the drawback? is an excellent question to ask. If you can respond to this query, you are aware of the worst-case situation. You’ll be able to take the kind of calculated risks that can result in enormous profits thanks to this understanding. It’s important to consider the benefits and hazards of starting your own midwifery practice.
  1. Be Innovative
Always explore methods to enhance, broaden, and differentiate your midwifery services from those of the competition. Recognize your limitations and remain open to fresh perspectives and other methods of doing what you do. Start introducing some novel treatments for sexual health issues or menopausal hormone replacement that no one else in the region is providing.
  1. Maintain Your Concentration
Rome wasn’t built in a day, as the proverb goes. You won’t necessarily start making money and have a full delivery list just because you start a midwifery business. Keep your attention on attaining your immediate objectives since it takes time for people to learn who you are.
  1. Make Your Sacrifices in Advance
Every business requires a lot of labor and commitment before it can be operated. Similar to working for a hospital or another practice, it is a long-term commitment with no pay until two weeks after the door opens. I can assure you that even though you often have to put in more time initially than you would if you were working for someone else, your potential earnings will always be higher.
  1. Deliver Excellent Service
Many prosperous midwifery businesses overlook how crucial offering top-notch customer service is. If you give your customers superior service, they’ll be more likely to return to you or recommend you to their friends and family.
  1. Consistency is the Key!
Being consistent is essential for the success of your midwifery practice. You must consistently take the steps required to achieve success. Long-term profitable habits will be formed as a result, helping you earn money.
KEY LESSONS
Analytical thought, committed planning, and meticulous record-keeping is required when starting a midwifery business. Being aware of your rivals will help you either copy or improve on their winning strategies.
When starting your midwifery practice, you’ll probably certainly find that you work harder for yourself than you would for someone else, so be prepared to give up certain aspects of your personal life. Gaining your customers’ loyalty and keeping their business requires giving them excellent service.
You can start and grow your midwifery practice with the support of some excellent resources. The development and creation of the imaginative future you seek depend heavily on business advisors like me with Midwifery Business Consultation and Empowering Midwifery Education

2023.06.06 03:02 AsterismRaptor Success story, kinda.

I’ve posted on here a few times but if you don’t know me, hi I’m AJ, I have IBS-C and microscopic lymphatic colitis.
I’m on these medications: Omeprezole 20g Remeron/Mirtazapine 15mg Zofran 2mg as needed
I’m 35, 5’9” and am female.
May 11th, 2022 I was just driving back from getting my car fixed and I suddenly had horrible nausea. It felt like my stomach was on fire and being stomped on. I raced home, thought maybe I just needed to eat something, so I ate. I felt further nausea, all day and into the night but I never vomited. I had a weird twinge in my jaw that led to the nausea, they still don’t know why. I was moving 2,500 miles across the country in one week at this point so I chalked it up to nerves. I couldn’t eat, everything caused me pain, mashed potatoes, apples, water even! Doctors gave me zofran and nexium.
I moved across the country somehow with my partner, his best friend, two dogs and three cars. I spent the next 2 months basically bedridden, seeing doctors, going to the ER and sincerely thinking I was dying. When this first occurred I was 324lbs.. and in 2 months I was 251lbs. I was losing weight so quickly because I couldn’t eat, anything I ate caused me pain, the gas and bloating were horrific.
GI doctor I met with said it was all in my head but gave me an endoscopy and they found nothing, zip, nada. I then was scheduled for a colonoscopy just in case. While awaiting my colonoscopy I saw a therapist, then a psychiatrist per the GI doctors suggestion. The psychiatrist told me to try Mirtazapine, told me GI issues and anxiety can go hand in hand. The therapist also told me it’s very common.
It was.. like night and day for me. At first they put me on 7.5mg and it just sedated me so they moved me up to 15mg. The next day.. I felt.. okay. I didn’t feel great but I felt okay..
I started eating again, Mirtazapine can increase your appetite and it definitely worked. But then the IBS-C would cause me pain again, though it wasn’t as bad as I remembered. I started going to the gym to try to help myself pass gas and stools.. and it helped tremendously.
I had my colonoscopy in November of 2022.. and it was clear but I had microscopic lymphatic colitis found in the biopsies. And I was officially diagnosed with IBS-C by my new GI doctor in February 2023. She talked through SIBO with me, motility testing, etc. We planned to stay on track with my current treatment until I see her again in August 2023 then do further treatments/testing.
So far I’ve been okay, I normally go anywhere from two weeks to three weeks between flare ups and stay pretty regular now with my bowels. I’ve had a fissure during this time that does reopen here and there. I stick to my medication pretty regularly and no, Zofran doesn’t cause further constipation for me unless I take like two in a day which is very rare.
I went from being in and out of the ER bedridden crying constantly to going back to school full time while also being in upper management at my job (I’m remote thank gosh), I workout 5x times a week and I walk 2-3 miles every day. When I finally met with my therapist after a few months of blowing her off (I was really busy to be fair) she almost cried seeing how much I have accomplished since a year ago.
Please don’t feel alone. We are all in this together and while not all of us have the same symptoms we do all have a chronic condition and I can’t explain how much I sympathize with each and everyone of you 💜 Feel free to DM at anytime if you need help or just an ear.

2023.06.06 02:53 Destrae [Trip Report] March 8-24 (Tokyo/Yokohama/Kyoto). 16 day weeb dream vacation - Kingdom Hearts concert, JJK exhibit, so many arcades!

I wasn't going to do a trip write up at all, but I'm planning a return trip in the Fall and I realized some of the things I learned on my first trip might be useful for other people, so here we go! I don't often see post write ups from people who are specifically into rhythm games/ arcades/ anime stuff

Dates: March 8 - 24, 2023 Background: Planned this trip mostly for myself but one of my friends decided to tag along fairly last minute. I had planned to spend the whole trip in Tokyo but the one thing she wanted to do was Kyoto, so we added a side trip + a very pleasant day at a Ryokan. I used Wanderlog to plan (HIGHLY recommend, this site is amazing), and my basic daily itinerary was morning shrine > pick an area to explore and have 1-2 major things per day. The person I was travelling with ended up taking a long ass time to get ready each day, so most of my morning stuff got cut or rearranged. Costs: I will fully admit I did not budget for food/ shopping, 100% vibes. I simply do not acknowledge what I spent

2023.06.06 02:26 bie716 Singapore experts of r/bangtan! What advice and recommendations do you have for ARMY visiting Singapore for the SUGA Agust D Concert? (16 - 18 June 2023)

In just under two weeks, ARMYs will descend upon Singapore to see SUGA! Help an ARMY out and let them know about safety, how to get around, where to eat, tourist attractions, BTS-related things to do, or anything else that you think someone should know when they visit! (Special thanks to the mods for your input and feedback for this guide!)

BTS' Past Visits

Red Bullet Tour (2014 BTS Live Trilogy Episode II) at the The Star Performing Arts Centre (13 Dec 2014)
Music Bank performance (4 Aug 2017) at the Suntec Convention Centre
Love Yourself World Tour (19 Jan 2019) at the National Stadium
This made history as the first time a K-pop group held a concert at the venue (largest concert venue in the country) and tickets sold out in about 3.5 hours! (45,000 audience)

Concert Venue

Do note that it’s currently the June school holidays too (26 May-26 Jun), so the Sports Hub and surrounding areas may be crowded with many other visitors besides the concert-goers. Please be mindful!

Sightseeing/Activities

Non-exhaustive list (all prices are in SGD)
(Note: You may want to check out Klook for discount tickets/passes)

Dining

Singapore is a food paradise with various cuisines from the local ethnic groups, as well as international ones. For Muslims, there are a lot of Muslim-owned or Halal-certified options around (look for this certificate, or the label “Muslim-owned”), including most of the fast food chains like McDonald’s/KFC/Burger King/Subway.
Carrying some cash with you (~$10 per pax) is a good idea, especially if you’re venturing out to hawker centres; while many places now have an electronic payment system in place, cash is still king in terms of versatility, and anecdotally most stores prefer cash or will charge a credit-card payment surcharge.

Where to eat?

What to eat?

Breakfast (These are generally very affordable options that should cost you below $10 per person, particularly if you go to food courts/hawker centres)

Getting Around

Singapore has a great public transport system. It’s really easy & cheap to get around on the MRT (mass rapid transit trains) and buses. Use Google Maps or the City Mapper app to navigate yourself and get route recommendations (the latter also has transport arrival timings and fare estimates. It also works in many cities globally, so is very useful for tourists). Various transport passes are available for tourists, but you can also use your contactless credit cards (Visa and Mastercard) to pay for the fares (no registration required).
In general, using the Circle Line (yellow) or Downtown Line (blue) should get you to most tourist attractions. Orchard Road (main shopping belt) can be accessed via the North South Line (red), between Orchard and Somerset MRT stations. Map for reference, with links to versions in Chinese/Malay/Tamil available for download.
Taxis and ride-hailing cars: We have Grab and Gojek in place of Uber.
General navigation
All signs are in English, and the locals - esp the younger generation - are able to speak English fluently. If you’re really lost, feel free to approach others to ask for help! People are generally friendly and helpful despite initial appearances :)
As a side note: in general, if Google Maps is asking you to circle around a building to get somewhere - don’t. You can cut through most places on the ground floor quite easily, even the residential buildings (unless they’re private properties like condominiums/landed housing). MRT stations are connected to a good number of places via sheltered corridors if they’re nearby enough. Enjoy the aircon & shade instead of walking outside in the heat if you can.

The weather is especially hot these days (max temp of up to 35 degrees celsius, or 95 Fahrenheit), with possible spurts of heavy rain at certain times of day, so dress light and carry an umbrella (most places do have sheltered walkways between buildings and bus-stops/MRT stations though, so don’t worry too much about getting around in the rain). Mall air-conditioning can be cold, so hv another layer (e.g. cardigan/wrap/scarf) on hand. Remember to hydrate frequently & avoid staying outdoors for too long!

2023.06.06 02:18 ConicalMonocle I have lost my mother and everyone. Please read and offer advice.

This is very long but I appreciate any advice. I am feeling a lot of things right now. I am a strong person but even I don't quite know what to do right now and that is how I find myself posting on reddit.
I'm 34, male and I am depressed, extremely bitter, frustrated, angry, lonely, ashamed, anxious. My mother passed January 27th from metastatic cancer diagnosed November 18 2022. I took care of my Mom mostly on my own while she was in hospice at home though she was in the hospital much of the time following thanksgiving because of her unstable behavior and thinking. Her mother, my grandmother passed November 21 2021 who I also spent time taking care of since she had lung cancer but contracted covid in the hospital and I was in the room holding her hand just my mother and I when she passed gasping for breath. My stepmother who I was close with passed away in September 2021 after suddenly developing a cerebral hemorrhage brain bleed. My brother 42 suddenly died from a cerebral aneurysm on the night of November 21 2020 while he was sitting around a fire pit with friends. My father passed from pulmonary fibrosis on his birthday October 16 in 2017 after about a year of trying to get him a lung transplant and driving back and forth to mass general. I watched him sit up in a hospice bed and touch his thumb and index finger together around his leg. My step father died from metastatic cancer in 2012. He and my mother now share an urn.
I left my girlfriend, for all intents and purposes wife, of 9 years in 2019 after I'd tried unsuccessfully for several years to help her to stop drinking and using drugs. She was not always that way but slowly became that way after she experienced the traumatic loss of he brother who died in a terrible car accident in 2014 and her mother who passed from untreated diabetes in 2016. Her other brother was a drug addict and pulled her down with him. I spent several years helping her to get to work, therapy, and cosigned for a car after she crashed hers and then ultimately crashed the one I cosigned for. Two years later she has moved to another state and is married with a kid. I believe I did the right thing.
I do what I have to do to maintain my life. I do not drink to excess or use drugs with the exception of a little weed mainly on weekends or before bed. I have good hygiene. I could sleep more but don't struggle to sleep once I have made up my mind to do it. I take time out to do things I find enjoyable. I maintain physical activity.
I am pushing forward with my life and I am posting on reddit of all places because I have no one else (read very few people) to talk to about what I am feeling. The people I do have to talk to do not offer great advice. They have not experienced what I have and/or are not the type to offer great advice ever no matter the context. I have sought therapy and continue to do so but I have a busy schedule and no one who accepts insurance seems to be able to accommodate 5:30pm or later on week days or any time Saturday and Sunday. I have very good benefits and am open to telehealth but its either they don't accept insurance or they don't have availability. I am working with my employer EAP and still am having trouble. I am persevering because it is what I always do.
I am buying my first house and relocating closer to where I work, a new job I am pleased with. I was hired about a year and a half ago and I am very pleased so far with it and how I've been treated when I was out of work taking care of my Mom. Right now I drive an hour and 15 minutes each way daily. I am able to work from home a couple days per week but my job is such that I need to be physically present some of the time.
I have very little family left. What family I do have is closer to the area where I work and am moving. Unfortunately they are also not the greatest support and tend to use. I help them but I have limits and some of them also are alcoholics and I've been there done that with my ex. I can't fix that and I can't let it impact my life.
I have no friends left for various reasons. I grew apart from many of them and lost others to drugs. Others have moved far away. I never had many friends to begin with. I was always the type for smaller groups and intimate gatherings. I do not feel close to anyone anymore.
I have an on and off again "girlfriend" who I remind all the time I am not feeling serious about our relationship. I am totally hanging onto that solely because I have no one else. She is nice and I try not to let myself think I am doing her wrong because I am quite honest about my feelings and often. That does not stop me from feeling some mix of guilt and fear at the thought of either staying or going. I am in no condition to date anyone else right now. Sometimes I think I will after I move but not right now.
I am terrified and am surviving because I stay laser focused on what I need to do. That doesn't mean I am stressed all the time. On the contrary I stay fairly relaxed but I accomplish this by stuffing down all my negative emotions and compartmentalizing my feelings rather than processing them. I feel like I do not have time to process my emotions or anyone who can help me to do it constructively. As I said I am continuing to look for a therapist. Sometimes I can't help but think about some of these things. I've never had a panic attack that I know of. I have heard all kinds of descriptions about how they feel. I will start randomly crying in the car while I'm driving. Sometimes recently when I am faced with a big decision like the move I am trying to coordinate or if I am forced to recall certain memories like while I am writing this post I feel numb all over and like I am outside myself and dizzy. I feel this way when I remember what happened just a few months ago. I think I am only doing as well as I am because I have worked so hard to forget what happened. I have been quite vague about it but she didn't just pass from cancer. The metastasis presented symptoms similar to brain cancer and she was not the person who raised me during that time.
My mother chose cremation. I intend to bury the urn this year and am working on purchasing a plot. Everything feels like a long story. My mother was never very clear about her burial wishes other than to be cremated and to be placed in the other half of the double urn with my step father. I tried to talk to her about it but she wouldn't talk about it except for on her terms. I think we both thought she had more time. When it became clear that was not the case I couldn't get a meaningful answer from her. I have picked out a cemetery which is appropriate for a number of reasons. If only it were that simple.
My step father who passed in 2012 is also in the urn don't forget. I have not seen or heard from a single member of his family since he passed. There was a court battle over assets and his daughter was involved. She is estranged but won some assets. I was younger then and while I do not particularly care for her I do not have any kind of a grudge toward her. I am worried about contacting her because I just want peace right now more than anything and I am afraid she will take even that from me. Needless to say now I am going to bury the urn and I want very much to just bury my mother and step father because this is hurting me so badly. I believe on the one hand I should contact her to let her know of my intent because this is her father after all. I do not have any sure way of contacting her and I don't know where she lives. I have googled her and can kind of guess maybe how I could contact her. She only ever showed up very infrequently to see her father in the first place when he was living. She was always the type to overtly value material possession and used her father for money and gifts. As I understand it he was not around much after he left her mother and so that is the type of relationship they had, as unhealthy as it was, and that is how she became the person she is since she never had a relationship to value and only material gifts. This is why I would prefer to have a private service and bury them both without contacting her. Aside from feeling some obligation to contact her about her father's ashes I am also concerned about ramifications down the road if she were to find out I buried her father's ashes without telling her. I do not recall but I believe when he passed she was given some of his ashes or at least the chance to have some whether she took it or not.
Thank you for reading my incredibly long story. There is so much more and I could write a book except even this much was a struggle. I deeply appreciate anyone who puts an ounce of thought into a serious response to this post. I think there are few things I need more right now.

2023.06.06 02:12 Numerous_Coyote3519 I don’t know if I should be asking my wedding planner to do more or if this is normal?

I’m an October 2023 bride and hired a full service wedding planner in March 2022. I haven’t had any issues with my planner until more recently I’ve noticed that I’m doing most things myself and I have to be the one initiating everything. My planner has been great with sending vendor options, creating a budget and creating a draft day of timeline. Other than that, I feel like I have to organize everything myself. If I don’t reach out to her, then I won’t hear from her for months. For example, according to her timeline, I was supposed to have hair and makeup booked by May. It’s June now and I reached out to her for vendor options and I’m worried if I hadn’t done that, then I wouldn’t have scheduled hair and makeup. I want to have a conversation with her about this but I wanted to talk with fellow brides who have done full service wedding planning packages. Should my wedding planner be taking the initiative on designs and different things we can do at our wedding? I feel like I have to create my own design board, color scheme, invitations, update the budget myself, and be the one to schedule meetings with her. I guess I am feeling disappointed and overwhelmed with the planning… we paid $8,000 for full service planning and I feel like we have so far received partial planning. I am definitely not a type A person so I really need the support of a planner. Have other brides experienced this? Should I be having a conversation with my planner?
