2023.06.06 07:43 Herrowgayboi What are your favorite places to travel within the US? Would love recommendations.

I'm located in the Bay Area, CA and have visited quite a few states. Only a few of them I enjoyed, but the rest weren't that great. That said, I'd love to travel around the states some more, but would love to go somewhere where I'll enjoy my time.
Places I've enjoyed:
- Hawaii (Oahu and Big Island) - absolutely beautiful beaches and hikes, only complaint is the amount of tourists
- Austin/San Antonio TX - I loved the culture here (both in the city and outskirts) and people were extremely friendly. I've gone to Austin multiple times and every time has been a good time.
- Utah - The national parks here are absolutely gorgeous and well worth the travels, but the only problem is the distance in relation to what is around. IIRC, you're easily driving 2-3hrs+ just to get anywhere.
- Las Vegas NV - I absolutely love the city vibe here and how dense the city (in the strip) is, but the amount of tourists is a bit bothersome.
- AZ - depending on the town, there's some nice things to see.
- Montana - While it's quite empty, I loved how clear the air was and Glacier National Park was an absolute treat.
Places I didn't enjoy:
- Washington/Oregon - It just felt like a downgraded San Francisco to me. Cost was still high, yet quality of food/service seemed to be lower.
- Idaho/Wyoming - were relatively boring to me as you had to drive for hours to get pretty much anywhere...
- Colorado - Ski parks are amazing here, but I don't think they were worth the chaos of trying to fly out there and deal with how packed those ski resorts get.
- Florida/Georgia/Tennessee/Alabama/South Carolina - my absolute will not go to again. I've only been once to this area and hated pretty much every moment of it. I tried my best to enjoy it but people here were extremely rude and there's really not much interesting things. Their "points of interest" are mediocre at best IMO. Worst part was we went to all the local recommended spots + went to highly reviewed restaurants and the food was mediocre at best. At some point during the trip, I just gave up and just ate fast food for the remainder because it taste just as good without the expensive price tag.

2023.06.06 06:12 4CLrq2sf9x7Rc Split unit on or off?

Just bought a house and we have a separate AC unit for an upstairs bonus room. We aren't using the room but because we live in Tennessee it gets really hot and humid in the summer.
Can we get away with leaving the unit turned off or should we leave it on 24/7 and have it set to like 80f? Running it at the same temperature as the main part of the house seems like a massive waste of electric.

2023.06.06 06:05 AutoModerator Weekly Discussion: Democratic Presidents

James K. Polk:

(November 2, 1795 – June 15, 1849)
He was the 11th president of the United States, serving from 1845 to 1849. Before he became president, Polk served as the 13th speaker of the House of Representatives (1835–1839) and ninth governor of Tennessee (1839–1841). A protégé of Andrew Jackson, he was a member of the Democratic Party and an advocate of Jacksonian democracy. Polk is known for extending the territory of the United States through the Mexican–American War; during his presidency, the United States expanded significantly with the annexation of the Republic of Texas, the Oregon Territory, and the Mexican Cession following American victory in the Mexican–American War.
After building a successful law practice in Tennessee, Polk was elected to its state legislature in 1823 and then to the United States House of Representatives in 1825, becoming a strong supporter of Andrew Jackson. After serving as chairman of the Ways and Means Committee, he became Speaker of the House in 1835, the only person to serve both as Speaker and U.S. president. Polk left Congress to run for governor of Tennessee, winning in 1839 but losing in 1841 and 1843. He was a dark horse candidate in the 1844 presidential election as the Democratic Party nominee; he entered his party's convention as a potential nominee for vice president but emerged as a compromise to head the ticket when no presidential candidate could secure the necessary two-thirds majority. In the general election, Polk defeated Henry Clay of the rival Whig Party.

2023.06.06 05:52 blackskinexpert Self-promotion Thread

Use this thread to promote yourself and/or your work!I have dedicated my life's mission to helping black, dark, and white women who suffer from PCOS, endometriosis, and unwanted hair. My passion stems from the lack of accurate information available about these conditions and the scarcity of professionals who truly understand the unique challenges faced by black and dark-skinned women. Prior to coming to the USA, I had already been treating black skin and gaining valuable expertise in the field.
I have witnessed numerous companies and organizations entering the laser hair removal business without the proper knowledge or qualified personnel. This has resulted in inadequate treatments and subpar results for many individuals. Additionally, there is a significant lack of education and medical resources specifically tailored for black women, particularly in the deep southern regions such as Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee, the Carolinas, North Florida, Georgia, and other areas. Few doctors possess the necessary expertise to accurately identify and treat these conditions.
To address these challenges, I decided to open my second clinic in Newnan, Georgia, a suburb of Atlanta. This strategic location allows women to seek personalized treatment directly from me, utilizing the only FDA-approved Yag laser specifically designed for black skin. I am determined to provide comprehensive care, utilizing my extensive experience and knowledge to ensure optimal results for each individual.
My goal is to empower women by offering effective treatments, accurate information, and a supportive environment. By combining my expertise in black skin issues with the most advanced technologies, I strive to make a positive difference in the lives of those who have been overlooked and underserved.
I firmly believe that every woman deserves access to quality care, regardless of their skin color or geographical location. It is my mission to bridge the gap, raise awareness, and provide exceptional treatments that truly address the unique needs of black and dark-skinned women. Together, we can redefine beauty standards and empower women to embrace their individuality with confidence.
For more info feel free to contact me or e mail me at [email protected] If u have any skin concerns feel free to ask,if I know or have the answer I will give it to you.Thank you Eva

2023.06.06 05:19 wordsintosound [Exchange] HappyMail is Human Connection [Tennessee to Anywhere Worldwide]

Hello. Greetings from Tennessee. I am new here and happy to find this sub. I am not a regular poster to Reddit, although I have been lurking here for years! :)
I am coming out of a dark place in my life, and into the light. The trauma of my past few years includes addiction, loss, and isolation, and I have been working to restore sanity through mental health professionals (rehab, psychiatrists, therapists), spiritual work (12 step work, meditation, reflection, Buddhist studies), and lots of journaling and reading and growing spiritually, physically, mentally, and emotionally. I am in a much better, stronger place.
I also had a baby in 2021! She is the light of my life. She is 21 months old and loves to make art these days.
What I'm offering is some random drawings by my baby (assisted by me, with some explanations of what we were learning/drawing, lol).
I still feel isolated these days, and I remember that my mom and my cousin were into this HappyMail thing a few years ago and it seemed so cool to me, but it just wasn't my thing. Since Covid hit in the middle of my getting sobespiritual journey, it has just been hard for me to connect with people. I am afraid to post on Reddit, let alone reach out to people in public. I don't even really like going to 12 step meetings, because i'm so afraid of people these days!
I hope this process helps me feel more connected? To be reminded of the beauty in life, in other people. I will do my best to create HappyMail that is cool and worth receiving, with the help of my amazing daughter, to send to you!
Am I doing this right?? Please advise...

2023.06.06 05:13 southernBuscuit I am trying to enroll in a day therapy program to give me structure

The mental health care in Tennessee sucks. Although, I am looking into a M-F day program to help get me back on my feet and help me tackle my loneliness/severe depression.
Sadly, the one potential program that was recommended to me is an hour and a half away. Good news is, this particular program may offer transitional housing.
Idk...what are your thoughts? I don't necessarily need to be in an inpatient lock down facility, but I need more structure.

2023.06.06 04:58 yellowfoam Delay tactics and being on the offense

I filed for divorce from my wife May 5 (Tennessee). I was served with a temporary OP the day before and was order to vacate my home with very little clothing. It has been 30 days and I have yet to get the remainder of my belongings. My attorney has attempted to get cooperation from my stbx's attorney via email and phone. Today I was told I they didn't want me to come in the house or even the drive because of the OP. Clothing would be placed at the end of the driveway. I told my attorney that this was unacceptable and that was only being used to delay, cause embarrassment, and undue duress. I asked her to file a motion for a hearing to get my personal valuables and belongings.
Also, to prevent further delay I asked my attorney to schedule mediation or compel the court to do so. I want this over as quick as possible and I made that perfectly clear with my attorney.
Even though I am only 30 days in my divorce I know how vindictive my stbx can be. What are some other things I can do to prevent their delay tactics? Should I ask the have the court to order scheduling?

2023.06.06 04:38 jajanken-teo Springfield Public Forum Events for the rest of the year?

Hey all! I'm moving to Springfield in September. Been a Mass Native my whole life. I cannot believe I was ignorant to the Public Forum series that Springfield has held for so long! I would have moved here like 12 years ago had I known, haha (30M).
That aside, I looked at their website and there's no events scheduled as of right now. Is this normal, like a kind of "down" period before it kicks back up again? I'm super excited to go to every single one that I can. I did subscribe to their newsletter, but I'm hoping to get some Redditors' perspective on what the talks are like.
Also interested in what else I'm probably ignorant to wrt cool Springfield events/cultural happenings. Thanks!

2023.06.06 04:31 -Night-Owl- Looking for a good store to buy from.

I have been trying to find a good firework store that's good bang for my buck. Western Virginia/ Eastern Tennessee/Kentucky area.
I've done a little bit of research and I haven't found any real good places that aren't super over priced compared to what I see in some videos. I just don't wanna overpay for something I can get for a better deal if I drive another hour away. lol

2023.06.06 04:22 Only_Being_Frank Nashville lawncare sub?

Curious if anyone is interested in a Nashville/middle Tennessee lawncare and gardening focused sub. I sub to Nashville and lawncare and see a lot of crossover questions. Would love to interact with others who are following local weather and trying to make the best version of their lawn and yard possible.
Particularly, I am responding differently this season through our current dry spell than I did last year. Last year we had about a six week drought from May-June then got blasted with insane heat late-June into July. All my full sun areas got blasted and I neglected watering and fertilizing. I’m being much more proactive this year with watering an fertilizing and would love to share notes with other lawn connoisseurs. TIA!!

Stopped into the local shop today to check out the pre-owned case. There was a Springfield 1911 in there that appears to be new...or nearly. Not sure what model it is. Full size, flat blue finish, commander style hammer, flat mainspring housing, adjustable rear sight. It's on consignment at $550. I started panting and forced myself to leave ha ha. I'm thinking about going back tomorrow...unless everyone tells me no.

2023.06.06 04:15 slimcrizzle Barrel not center in handguard. Tried new handguard and new upper.

Barrel not center in handguard. Tried new handguard and new upper.
I tried lapping my upper. It's an upper from a Springfield St Victor. That didn't work so I tried buying a whole new Aero upper. That didn't work. I thought it was maybe the hand guard so I switched out the hand guard and barrel nut and it's still the same amount off center. It's about .060 off center if you measure handguard to side of barrel on both sides. By deduction I'm guessing it could only be the barrel or how the barrel extension was installed. I guess it's just my OCD that's driving me nuts considering how far I have to run my iron sights off of center and how far I have to dial the windage for my LPVO. I'm not running out of adjustment though. I can still shoot less than 1 in groups at 100 yards all day. But does anybody know any feasible way to fix this? Has anybody else ran into this problem?
