2023.06.06 04:37 Luigifan18 SRB2 Add-on Idea: Prince Garcia

This is actually the first add-on idea I've been considering for SRB2 — yes, I was brainstorming this before I was brainstorming the Belnades Sisters. This is one of my very first Mario/Sonic OCs, and fair warning here, he's a bit OP. The character in question is Garcia… Garcia the Beanie Baby. Yes, I'm serious. (I'd have put up a link to Garcia's profile on Ty's website, but he's not there anymore.) Anyways, Garcia in my fanfics is a lot more than a teddy bear — he's a powerful pyrokinetic capable of giving Blaze a run for her money. So, here are some details on how he'd play.

2023.06.06 03:58 KatonShinobi Re: UM5 v Muichiro, and the challenge of power-scaling from different POVs.

There’s a lot of discourse around Muichiro slaying the UM5 in one episode, and I wanted to throw in my two cents.
Firstly, I enjoyed this part of the arc immensely. Muichiro’s backstory, his breathing style, his sword, and Gyokko’s leviathan form were all amazing. But the fight was short and, ultimately, Muichiro didn’t seem to find the challenge particularly difficult.
A significant amount of people are disappointed by that, especially when this fight is so adjacent to the epics of the UM6 battle, and the ongoing UM4 battle. Understandable. But it seems like a lot of the disappointment stems from power-scaling UM5 and his feats from the wrong POV.
Let me explain.
In the anime, we spend most of our time in the head of Tanjiro. Indeed, every UM fight we’ve seen was “told” from Tanjiro’s POV. If this were literary fiction, this would be far more pronounced, but given the animation medium, it can actually be kind of easy to forget this.
What this means is, when we saw UM3 and Rengoku flitting around at, as Tanjiro describes, “faster than I can keep up”, it is displayed through the animation medium as incredibly flashy, high speed movements, almost like Naruto’s ‘body flicker’. And when we see the gap in speed between Tanjiro and UM6, its shown to us by having time almost freeze. Tengen had to make Tanjiro dodge that incoming scythe attack, an attack he didnt even see coming until Tengen was already moving him.
Back to the UM5 fight, where we’re watching the perspective of a Hashira. UM5 seems so slow and so unimpressive, because it’s not Tanjiro telling us the story from the back foot, but rather it’s Muichiro telling us the story from the advantage. Every feat we see from UM5 in this fight has to be scaled with that dramatic change in perspective in mind, especially with the way ufotable and the mangaka exaggerates what’s being displayed based on who is seeing it.
In the same way that Muichiro isn’t really a walking smoke machine, and the way that Zenitsu isn’t really a lighting bolt, UM5’s lackluster performance is reflective of the person who fought him and lived to tell the tale. I understand that won’t redeem it for a lot of people, but if Tanjiro had to solo UM5, I think we would’ve seen a very different demon on display.

2023.06.06 03:55 carlosblue_14 The Amalgam: Chapter 4(Part 1)

N was flying while carrying Uzi and Doll with him follow V in the distance.

N: V, wait for us.

She didn't seem to pay attention to them and kept moving forward.

Uzi: What the hell is wrong with you 2? When my dad said that Thad was heading to the dead body area, you guys just, what was that all about?
N: Me, we… it's complicated.
Uzi: Don't tell me it's complicated! You're going to tell me everything you know about that thing NOW.

N hesitated for a few seconds, but Uzi looked at him annoyed, clearly not willing to listen to an excuse, to which she had to give up.

N: It's okay, but, you should know that I don't have all the details, it was V and J who knew the most about this, I… she just followed her orders.
Uzi: Fine, fine, but start talking already.
N: Okay… tell me, how much do you know about us when we got here?
Uzi: Outside of the fact that they came here killing everyone?
N: Well... let's say it wasn't that way, oh at least not as they told you.
Uzi: What do you mean?

In retrospect
A ship arrives and lands on Copper-9, some drones came out of it, but they weren't teardown drones, as they were wearing JCJenson uniforms.

N: When the core incident happened, they first sent an investigation team to find out what happened.

The group of “investigative drones” walked around the site examining the bodies of other wrecked drones on the ground.

Drone Researcher 1: Commando, you guys get to see this, it's a fucking massacre.

Suddenly a metallic noise is heard coming from a mound of bodies piled to one side. The drones look at each other suspiciously and approach cautiously. While one of them speaks.

Drone Investigator 2: Who's there?

N: These drones had no means of defense.

The leader of the group approaches one of the bodies and touches it, nothing happens.

N: They didn't have a chance.

A cable shoots out of the mound and through the leader's head.

Drone Investigator 3: Wow, what the hell?!

What looks like a clawed hand emerges from the mound and grabs the body, then a partially formed mechanical creature rises up, legless and missing an arm, but his appearance is intimidating enough that the drones know he caused it all. this, especially when he starts laughing.

End of hindsight
Uzi: So, that thing was the one that slaughtered the drones and not you?
N: Uh… 50/50.

Uzi looked seriously at N.

Uzi: We're not for N games.
N: Sorry, just me-
Uzi: That doesn't matter now, if what you say is true and then they sent you guys to take over.
V: No

V realized that her partner had opened her mouth, so she decided that if they were to know the truth she should tell it herself.

Uzi: What did you mean by that?
V: That after that, "Incident", combat drones were sent to eliminate that thing.
Uzi: Drones what?
V: Basically soldier drones, with weapons and the whole thing.
Uzi: And what happened?
V: We could barely hold that thing back, what do you think happened to them?

Uzi swallowed at that.

Doll: Если компания хочет убить эту штуку, почему они не послали вас с самого начала?
V: Because we didn't exist at that time, or at least not as such.
N: what do you mean?

V hesitated a few seconds before answering.

V: According to J, we are an… update that the combat drones should have received, but they gave it to us because they had unwanted behavior changes.
Uzi: Define, “unwanted behaviors”.
V: Well, they became extremely irritable, hyper active and started killing everything that moved.
Uzi: How are you?

V looked annoyed at Uzi.

V: Believe me, they were much worse, but as she said, in short they went crazy, so the company ordered us to take care of them.
Uzi: They sacrificed them.
V: It's a way of saying it, but yes.
Uzi: N, why didn't you mention that?
N: Because, honestly I didn't remember them, I mean, from what V says I think he's referring to team 23 and J didn't let me help much.
Uzi: Anyway, I think- wait you said 23.
V: yes
Uzi: You mean-
V: 23 teams were sent to put an end to that thing and none of them succeeded, we are team 24.

There was an awkward silence, Uzi trying to process the information she had just received, knowing that 23 groups of company-armed drones had been destroyed by that thing… it was terrifying.

Uzi: And you say that only you could face it?
V: Well, not exactly, that bastard destroyed my head and it took me a while to regenerate, when I woke up N told me that J had killed him, something that by the way turned out NOT TO BE TRUE.

N laughed nervously at V's comments.

N: In my defense J said that he had done it.
V: Anyway, when I got there his body was lying in the snow without moving, it was very big and they had given us the order to eliminate all the drones in the area to make sure that it hadn't escaped infecting someone, we needed to stock up on oil and we couldn't leave it out in the open, just like that, so what and...
Uzi: So what?

V and N didn't respond, Uzi didn't understand the reason for this, until he realized with horror what they were referring to.

Uzi: You buried him-
Doll: На горе трупов.

He said coming to the same conclusion as Uzi

Uzi: But why didn't they destroy it?
V: J didn't want to and said we needed to keep it, company orders.
Uzi: You can't be serious.
V: Ok, looking back maybe it wasn't the best idea, but she was the boss at the time, okay?
Uzi: I know, but why the hell would the company want to keep the thing that killed so many of their drones, it doesn't make sense, they'd just be wasting resources.
Doll: Я тут о чем-то подумал, она говорит, что "Джей" убила эту штуку, но явно это было не так, но и она не мо гла притворяться, что это сделала, так как ее тело не имеет сознания, а vdrug-
Uzi: J was infected all this time.

Uzi noticed that Doll looked at her annoyed for interrupting her.

Uzi: Hey, you did the same.
V: I doubt J was infected, I mean, that thing tried to turn us into its "minions" several times, even with J, but never succeeded.
N: That is true.
Uzi: But, what if she wasn't infected as such, but she, she "contained" it.
N: What do you mean?
Uzi: Think about it, J was absurdly loyal to the company, and they wanted this thing alive, but clearly couldn't kill it, what if J managed to transfer that monster's consciousness into hers and she contained it.

There was silence again.

Uzi: But, when I killed her, the program took over, the Absolute Fixer was supposed to regenerate J, but instead she just grew and grew, what if she wasn't killing for the sake of killing.
N: I don't understand, what does the program have to do with that thing?
Doll: Во время занятия профессор сказал, что чем больше и сложнее машина, тем больше вычислительной мо щности требуется для ее правильной работы.
Uzi: Right, maybe the fixer was trying to keep him contained, but… when we killed him, we-
V: They released that thing.

V looked annoyed at N and Uzi, the latter lowered her head as she realized that the monster that had taken Thad and many others had been released by her, first attracting the murder drones to the colony and now releasing an immortal monster that He only seeks to kill. It was in situations like this that she wondered… what would have happened if she had never left the colony that day? I don't notice her concern and try to cheer her up.

N: Uzi, it's not your fault, well technically yes, but the point is that we've all made mistakes, right girls?

V was not interested in answering and Doll just looked away from her.

N: Uzi you don't-
V: Oh that's not true!

Quickly V decade, N did not understand until, under her sight, there were hundreds and hundreds of those "zombie minions" around the place, most walking aimlessly, while others pulled out the piled bodies and took them away.
N quickly descended with the girls and stood next to V.

N: V, now what?
V: Silence, I try to think.
Uzi: I thought you'd jump right in and kill them all.
V (annoyed): I don't know if you noticed, but those things aren't easy to kill.
Doll: Так что, мы просто спрячемся здесь?
V: No, but, hey, Violet.
Uzi: Don't call me that.
V: Ok, “Uvi” or whatever your name is, can't your weapon shoot a super laser like J?

Uzi looked annoyed at V

Uzi: First, my name is Uzi and second, no, the energy core wears out very quickly and I used it to kill that other thing.
V: Ugh, great, and your Russian girl?

Doll looked annoyed at vi and manifested a knife pointed at her.

V (growling): Seriously none of you think of anything! I guess that's how J must have felt with us.
Uzi: Oh I'm sorry if, you know, we tried to process everything that just happened.
N: Hey girls
V: Oh yes, of course, now you start to think about that, right?!
N: Girls
Uzi: Maybe we could deal with this more calmly if, you know, THEY DIDN'T KILL SO MANY OF US!
V: Do you really blame me? When were you the one who released that thing?!
Uzi: Hey, it was the Absolute Solver who broke my weapon and destroyed himself.
V: I remind you that you killed J and he became that thing because of you.
N: Girls
V (points to N): And if you hadn't sided with him, we would have finished all this, and we'd go home.

Tired of nobody listening to him, N screamed.

N: YOU COULD HEAR ME FOR JUST 5 SECONDS!

There was an awkward silence, mostly because N wasn't the type to, well, yell for attention.

Uzi: Hey, we're waiting for you, what's up?

N pointed to the side, when they turned around they saw a large number of those "zombies" staring at them.

V: oh

The creatures began to laugh and ran towards them.

V: Oh you have to be kidding.

V quickly launched herself at the "zombies" cutting a group of them in half, but as expected, this didn't stop you and they began to crawl towards her. N fired several energy shots from her arm.

N: Uzi, I think we could use a little help.
Uzi: I don't know if you noticed, but I need a power core for my weapon to work.
N: But you don't have those claws and-?

Uzi looked annoyed at N not wanting to bring it up at that moment.

N: O-okay

N pierced the torso of one of the zombies and ripped out its energy core which he delivered to Uzi. He quickly attached it to his gun and began shooting at the creatures that kept coming.

Uzi: This is much better.

He quickly smashed the heads of several of them, to ensure that the bastards could not rise again. While this was happening, Doll was eliminating multiple zombies that were trying to get to her, but either she sent them flying using her powers, or she crushed them with said strange symbol that she summoned. V for her part cut and shredded all the zombies she found, if she were around another time she would possibly drink her oil, but she was more focused on finding Thad and preventing him from finding the body of that thing that in that.
As she ripped the head off of a zombie drone, she heard what seemed to be the sound of... an engine?, when she turned her head a gray blur hit her. When he fell to the ground, he saw what appeared to be a wrecked takedown drone, barely standing, with wires sticking out of its body and its wings spread, but unlike them, its clothing was more… “formal”, it was covered. of oil, but even so the symbol of the company and the number 23 on his chest were distinguishable, he was one of the members of team 23 sent to deal with that thing, who had to be sacrificed as they became unstable.

V: Ugh, what I was missing.

The creature laughed and jumped towards her, its claws collided with V's who tried to defend himself from the zombie that did not stop laughing, N attacked him from behind, but surprisingly, his broken wings bent towards him causing a deep cut on his neck. chest. N stepped back somewhat in pain, then pointed her cannon arm at him, but noticed that V was in the middle.

N: V move.
V: Do you think I can? Just shoot him!
N: But-
V: Just do it!

N was forced to fire, creating a large cloud of smoke as the shot hit, she approached and found V badly damaged, having lost a leg and an arm.

N: are you okay?
V: This is nothing.

Suddenly the winged zombie pounced on N, a large part of her body was missing, only her torso and one arm remaining.

N: Ah, take it from me.

What could be described as a ninja star flew out and impaled the zombie's head, spinning inside and ripping him apart internally, the beast convulsing before falling dead to the ground. N looked in the direction of his savior seeing that it was Doll, Uzi was shooting at the other zombies that were advancing towards them trying to make them go back.

Uzi: Not to put pressure on them, but these things keep coming, how many of us did they kill?
V: In our defense, that thing did 70% of the job.

V, having partially regenerated, prepared to jump into the approaching zombie army, but stopped when she heard laughter and growls from another direction, she and N turned in that direction and saw multiple eyes in the blizzard staring at them, V between the hills. her eyes to see straight, only to be caught off guard when the rest of the now zombie team 23 flew in her direction. Team 23 unlike the team of N, V and J, this was made up of 12 prototype disassembly drones, if killing one cost them anything, this was going to take longer, they flew over them as if they were vultures, they then charged into the group in an attempt to finish them off.

V: Ugh, it had to be these guys.
N: Do you know them?

V cut two to one who flew at her and fired multiple rounds at her head to make sure he didn't get back up.

V: We killed them, you don't remember, no wait, J left you out of that.
N: That when she was her?
Uzi: Look, I'd love to know the context of all this, but we could focus on that later!

Uzi blocked the claws of one of those things with his weapon, he held her and tried to snatch it away to leave her defenseless, because she pressed the trigger, the weapon began to shoot in all directions, accidentally hitting both the zombie drones and V and N.

N: Ouch.
V: Be careful idiot!
Uzi: Do you think I can control it?!

One of the shots went to Doll, who covered herself waiting for the impact, but there was none, when she opened her eyes she saw that she had managed to stop the energy projectile in midair, she didn't have time to process this when one of those things struck her. stabbing him in the chest, she screamed in pain, but she wasn't going to sit idly by, so she redirected the projectile's course and launched it at the flying drone. Although she didn't hit the target, if she smashed her arms, she clearly didn't take it well and she lunged at Doll, who manifested several knives and threw them at her head to kill him once and for all.
On the other hand, V had to deal with 3 of those things, as if he didn't have enough problems. She turned her hand into a kind of harpoon and threw it at one of them, the harpoon stuck in the chest of the winged zombie and threw it at a group of common zombies that were approaching, the other two jumped towards her, she barely managed to stop. the first, but not the second, who bit his left arm. V grunted in pain before yelling at her partner.

V: M!
N: I'm-
V: Help!
N: oh

He quickly destroyed the drone that was attacking him and flew towards V, taking the drone that was directly attacking her by surprise and threw it at another one that was flying towards them, smashing them in the air, V turned his free hand into a sword and attacked the drone that was attacking him. It bit the arm, but it was faster and ripped it off, she screamed, but in anger and changed her sword for a machine gun with which she shot at the creature, destroying it.

V: Thanks, uh…
N:N
V: Yes, that.

Back with Uzi, she was trying to free her weapon from the grasp of the flying drone, who refused to let go.

Uzi: Oh come on, let it go.

Uzi kicked at the creature, but it had no effect, instead it hit him back, Uzi fell and the monster threw the weapon aside, she tried to move away, but he lunged at her, digging his claws into the snow and it opened its mouth, showing its sharp teeth and wires that dangled from its mouth. When the zombie was going to "bite" it, almost as if he did it out of instinct, Uzi attacked the creature, thrusting his fist into its mouth, then his hand turned into a claw and opened it, smashing its head, the monster fell dead. On top of her, Uzi pushed the body to the side and looked at her claw, covered in oil... and felt the need to taste it, lost in her thoughts it felt like time froze, until she heard Doll scream, she quickly regained her composure and returned his claw to normal. Doll was desperately trying to get rid of the tide of reanimated bodies that were trying to reach her, although she could easily just destroy them using her powers, it turned out that the damage caused by that "spider" in the colony somewhat interfered with her, so she was it was making it difficult to use them correctly. Quickly a flurry of energy shots tore most of them apart and they gave him time to get away from them. V flew into the air attracting the remaining flying zombies who started flying after her. N tried to follow them, but she saw that Uzi and Doll were being surrounded, she looked at V being surrounded in the air by those things, but Uzi was also in trouble. N had to decide whether to help Uzi or help V.
Uzi and Doll were trying to push back the zombies that were crawling towards them, Uzi's gun would run out of power at this point and Doll's powers would keep failing.

Uzi: Ugh, because they just don't die.

She kicked one that was nearby while the others kept getting closer. One who was supposedly dead behind Uzi, got up and grabbed her from behind, she tried to fight, but accidentally dropped her weapon, fed up with this, her hands turned into claws and she impaled the drone's head, then threw it to the ground and began to crush it over and over and over again until it was simply nothing but scrap.
She gasped at the incessant urge to kill, for doing so... felt good, felt VERY good, she looked at her claws again, with oil dripping from them, she again felt the need to taste it, but quickly came back to her senses when more of those zombies approached her, a wide smile broke out on her face while that strange symbol flashed on her visor, she didn't bother to retrieve her weapon, because she already had others.
As this was happening, a white eye under a mound of corpses watched the group fight their minions.

Returning to our group, Uzi ripped and shredded the zombie drones that pounced on him, this while N and V took care of the last 2 remaining flying zombies.

V: huh, L?
N: It's N
V: Whatever, don't you think you should tell your girlfriend to calm down a bit?
N: what?! No, she's not-

No sooner had she noticed the small mountain of bodies that Uzi had created, she found herself hitting while she was laughing uncontrollably at a zombie that had stopped moving a long time ago.

N: Oh… that.

N managed to decapitate the flying zombie that was attacking him, then he approached Uzi, Doll was on one side watching, she didn't dare to approach her crazed companion.

N: Uh, Uzi?

Uzi ripped the head off one of the zombies and used it to hit the limp body of another that was next to it.

Doll: Я не думаю, что это хорошая идея, чтобы привлечь его внимание her?
N Uzi?

Uzi turned around, about to drink the oil from the head she was holding, until N caught her attention and she came to her senses.

Uzi: No?
N: what are you doing?
Uzi: I…

She quickly tossed her head to the side and climbed down the small hill of corpses that she had made.

Uzi: she was just in charge of cleaning the place.
N: Umm… And that was necessary?

N pointed to the mound of corpses that Uzi made.

Uzi: Oh, that, it's just… let's change the subject.
V: yes

V approached holding the head of the zombie that was attacking her, then smashed it to make sure the bastard stayed dead.

V: How to find your "little friend" and put an end to all this at once.
Uzi: Look, I want to end all of this too, but you don't think there's any alternative other than, you know, killing him.
V: NO
Doll: Ненавижу это признавать, но он прав.

Uzi looked at Doll confused considering that she tried to kill V just a few hours ago.

Doll: But that doesn't mean I like him.

V looked at Doll who looked at her annoyed, she rolled her eyes and turned her attention to N.

V: Well, I think he is already

V was interrupted when a kind of mechanical roar was heard in the distance.

V: DAMN IT, NOW WHAT!

And she was already fed up with these zombies, they simply did not stop coming, or so she thought, since there were practically none alive, but in the distance she could see a light moving erratically and quickly.

Uzi: What is that?
V: Ugh, I'll take care of it.

V opened his wings and flew into the blizzard which had increased, a few seconds passed without anything happening, until shots and sounds of clashing blades were heard, then V flew out and crashed into Doll.

N: V!

N rushed to help her partner while Uzi aimed his gun and fired at the approaching dim light, but missed as she was zic-zac.

Uzi: What the hell?

Suddenly, the creature jumped towards her, managing to ram her, the beast raised her claw to pierce it, but Uzi stopped it in time with his own, it was at that moment that she was able to see it more closely. He was moderately taller and bulkier than a common drone, he had a red jacket that was torn and covered in oil, his arms and legs were more robotic and coarse, in addition to having claws on both his hands and feet, his helmet was cracked and at the same time Like other zombies, it seemed that its jaw was attached to its head by cables, in addition to having a single glowing white eye in the middle of its visor.

Uzi: T-Thad?

A shot of energy hit the creature freeing Uzi, but this had not finished with it, as it was clearly more resistant than the others, the beast quickly recomposed itself and ran on all fours towards en, who fired again.

Uzi: No, wait.

N fired, but the zombie hunter dodged and jumped on him, digging his claws into his torso, N screamed in pain as the hunter violently withdrew his claws ripping into his chest and digging them into his face . Doll decided not to be left behind and materialized several knives around her and threw them at the creature. She, however, did not even bother to protect herself, since most of the knives could not go through his body and only one hit his head, but he simply took it from his face and threw it abruptly to the ground. He then began to approach her while chuckling slightly as Doll backed away, she tried to summon one of those weird symbols like when they were in the colony, but it just kept failing without interacting with the physical world. Luckily for her, V managed to wake up and lunged at the thing, using her swords to block the attack from her claws and trying to cut it.

V: I should have killed you when I had the chance!

He simply laughed, irritated by this, she managed to stab him into her chest with her sword, then spread her wings and began to soar with him.

N: W, wait!

V continues to rise as she punched the monster in the face.

V (hitting him): Let's see, if you keep laughing at this.

The creature continued laughing at her, V angrily tried to hit him to smash his head, but he caught her arm with her mouth and ripped it off causing her to scream in pain.

V: Ah, damn son of-!

But she couldn't finish when the enhanced zombie opened her mouth and several wires came out of it, digging into her head.

V: No

His visor glitched and a message appeared on it.

“THE SYSTEM HAS DETECTED HOSTILE COMPUTER AGENTS, PROCEEDING TO AN EMERGENCY RESET”

Then her body was inert beginning to fall at high speed. Below, Doll, N and Uzi looked expectantly when they noticed how they began to descend at high speed.

Uzi: Uh… that doesn't look good.
N: V!

N opened his wings and tried to reach them, but they crashed into the ground, generating a large cloud of dust and snow that covered the place. After a few seconds of waiting, the light from the creature's eye and its laughter became present and showed itself above. from V's body which cushioned the fall, N launched against the beast which responded in the same way, digging its claws into the torso, then opened them throwing large amounts of oil and took N's head and smashed it against the ground , only to then crush it with the claw of his foot, then he slowly turned his head and laughed when he saw the two remaining girls, to later launch himself on Doll.

Uzi: Ugh, dammit.

She tried to shoot, only to realize that she couldn't pull the trigger, it was as if her body refused to do it, while the zombie attacked Doll who threw knives at it to stop it but just like before, it was useless, because which using all his concentration, he managed to stop him by placing that strange holographic symbol on his limbs, although he could easily tear him to pieces at that moment, due to the failure of his powers, the most he could do was stop him, but that was enough, because Uzi could take care of the rest.

Doll: Давай, поторопись и сNESи ему голову.

Uzi raised her gun and aimed at the head of the zombie that was struggling to get free... but for some reason she couldn't pull the trigger, she tried to, but she couldn't, because in that monster she still saw her old friend her.

Doll: Узи, чего ты ждешь, я не могу-

The creature broke free of those holographic restraints causing a small burst of energy that sent Doll flying and knocked her unconscious. Then she directed her gaze to Uzi who still couldn't shoot him, he began to walk towards her while Uzi backed away out of fear.

Uzi: Thad

The creature began to laugh slowly as it extended its claws.

Uzi: I-I know you're there… please don't make me do this.

He did not stop his advance, in turn N recovered consciousness after regenerating seeing how that thing approached his friend.

N: Ozi!

Uzi finally using all his willpower managed to pull the trigger... but nothing happened. It turns out that he spent all of the weapon's energy on the zombie army from before. When he looked up he saw the zombie standing in front of her, staring at her with his only eye.

Uzi: Thad, I-

Uzi stopped as he felt the blades of the being's claws pierce his body, then the creature picked him up while roaring and split him horizontally in two, throwing his remains roughly in different directions, with the top falling to the side of the mound of bodies. that she had formed earlier and a few surviving zombies that were creeping towards her.

N: UZI!

N got up when he saw his friend being violently murdered and pounced on the monster that he had begun to laugh uncontrollably. He blocked the attack of his claws with his own and tried to subdue him, but N was too angry, and when that happens, he stops being the cute boy of the group, his visor showed an X instead of his eyes and he started to smile, then he held the creature's hands tightly and placed his foot on his chest, then he began to pull while it tried to free himself from his grip, but it was too late, N ripped off the zombie's arms and then dug his claws into his torso, beginning to destroying it while ripping out its insides even using his mouth, then he began to repeatedly hit its head with his hands and didn't stop until only shattered scrap was left. Despite this he didn't stop until he heard V's voice.

V: No?

N stopped his attack upon hearing that V finally remembered his name. Then they both looked at each other in awkward silence. To say that she was surprised was an understatement, J always said how N was a burden and a dead weight, so V's vision of him was not a big deal, but he never thought that his clumsy partner could "explode" like that. shape.

V (thinking): I wonder what J would have said if she saw you now?
N: I-
V: Look that doesn't matter now, that thing isn't really dead, now we just have to get rid of its body and all this hell will be over.
Doll: What kind of thing?

Doll said with her arms crossed, although she had been willing to help them finish this thing off, what would they do next? N and V were still Killer Drones, their purpose was to kill the worker drones, they would return to the colony and kill to all.

V (annoyed): What are you insinuating?
Doll: Что они собираются делать, когда закончат с этой штукой?
V: Look whatever your name is, I still haven't forgotten that you tried to kill me, so I would suggest you watch your words.

They both looked at each other with mutual contempt, while N was silent thinking about Uzi. But they all stopped when they heard a strange sound, like metal and plastic breaking. The three of them turned slowly in the direction of the creature and saw how it was getting up, despite its damaged state multiple cables were coming out of its body, and connected to the arms and various remains of other zombies scattered around the place and the remains of the shattered head, the wires from the head reached out and grabbed the head of the flying drone that N had decapitated earlier, then attached it to his body, for a few seconds there was silence, but it was broken by the laughter of that monster whose eye lit up in your viewer.

V: Why can't you just fucking die?!
Doll(scared): Ч-что это за монстр на самом деле?

N did not hesitate and launched himself again at Uzi's killer, but he had to avoid it as the zombie doubled his body and multiple cables with pieces of sharp metal extended from the large hole in his torso thanks to N. Then he rejoined and ran on all fours towards V and Doll, V changed his claws for weapons and started shooting, while Doll threw whatever she had, knives, throwing stars or pieces of zombie drones at him. But nothing seemed to stop him, V tried to sting him with the stinger of his tail, managing to infect his arm with the acid nanobots, but this did not seem to matter to him, even when it began to corrode and separate from his body. He countered by stabbing V into his arm and again ripping him from his body.

V: Not again!

The zombie was going to impale his head with his claws, but a holographic symbol of Doll around his wrist stopped him. N then charged and pinned him before throwing himself against a wall to pin him down.

N: V shoot!

V, unlike Uzi, did not hesitate and began to shoot at point blank range at both of them, the shots slightly damaged N but the same could not be said of the creature, that although its body could resist the shots, its head could not and it was being damaged. So to get rid of it, I grabbed the stinger from N's tail and cut it before digging into the head, causing it to remain inert on the ground, although the disassembly drones could resist the effect of their own nanobots, or at least of In a way that wasn't lethal, that didn't mean they couldn't hurt them. After breaking free, he ran again like a wild animal towards the two girls while they shot at him. V exchanged his amra for a sword while he attacked the monster.

V: JUST DIE!

He held the swords and using absurd force split them in two, V changed his weapon again, this time into normal claws. Then he tried to attack it with his claw, but the zombie opened its mouth and several cables came out like tentacles trying to catch it, V quickly moved away and avoided being touched, although he had tried to maintain his serious attitude throughout this time, the truth it's that there was something that worried her, and a lot, her arm, it didn't regenerate, well, it did, but VERY slowly. Because? Why wasn't her regeneration system repairing her at the same speed as before? What was that feeling in his chest? Was it fear?
V moved further away from the creature fearing for her life, whatever she did to him had triggered that survival instinct she apparently lacked, apparently a side effect of slowing her regeneration.
Doll looked annoyed at V when she saw that she was alone against this monster, who began to approach her in a threatening way while she laughed. She manifested various knives, saws, ninja stars and anything she could use as a weapon, then began to throw it at him as he began to run against her, unlike before if it had a greater effect, as the objects managed to go through his body and leave him still. more, but he kept advancing, even his cables quickly assimilated several of the objects that were thrown at him in his own body. Doll, on the other hand, was exhausted, using her powers so often and relentlessly was draining almost all of her energy, not to mention that they were not working properly, since several of the objects that she was throwing at her were vanishing in the air. So using what little energy she had left, she manifested various symbols on different parts of the zombie's body and turned them around several times, a horrible sound of metal and artificial organs breaking was heard as the creature's body fell to the inert ground. . Doll breathed heavily feeling her microprocessors boiling from overexertion, sure that now the damned should be dead...
I think by now you should get the idea that this is almost impossible, as her broken body began to rise again, twisting the broken joints and bending to stay upright. Then she began to walk on all fours towards her, she was helpless, too tired to do anything, she was about to close her eyes waiting for death when several shots attracted the creature. N and V started shooting at the monster in order to kill it once and for all, but without success. N had already regenerated and V had decided to attack again because she didn't know that this thing would inevitably kill them, but at least she wouldn't die hiding like a rat. Another confrontation with an obvious result was about to take place, but the zombie stopped and looked in another direction. The group of three looked confused in the same direction and noticed something, in the small mound of bodies from before, several of the zombies' bodies were torn apart and open, as if a wild animal had devoured them, since said animal was on its back. , over a corpse and what could be described as two wings made of... meat?, the creature slowly turned around and showed itself as Uzi, but in the middle of her visor was that strange symbol and her mouth had several sharp teeth, she started laughing when she flew at high speed against her old friend managing to ram him and causing them to crash against the wall causing a cloud of smoke, when this dissipated his new appearance could be better appreciated, his body looked slightly different, but his legs were now more similar to V's, in addition to possessing a tail with yellow acid on it, but the most prominent thing was clearly its wings that seemed to be made of meat. Uzi laughed and attacked the zombie Thad who could barely defend himself due to only having one arm, several cables came out of the zombie's mouth and tried to hold Uzi, but she countered with her tail which he bit and smashed, causing the acid to melt his wires and part of his jaw. As these two killed each other, V, N, and Doll looked away from the conflict.

V: Since when-?
N: We shouldn't help.
Doll: Я не думаю, что это хорошая идея?

Uzi pinned Thad slammed him repeatedly into the ground as he laughed uncontrollably, then without giving him a chance to defend himself plunged his claw into the hole in his chest and violently ripped out what could only be described as his heart. Whereupon the creature wailed in apparent pain, and its single eye went black. Uzi laughed as she dripped the oil onto her face.

V (pointing her arm at her weapon): Great now we have to deal with her.
Doll: Я думаю, мы не должны привлекать его внимание her-
N: Uzi you did amazing!

Uzi turned to look at them abruptly and smiled when he saw new prey, he put aside the artificial heart and began to approach them while she slightly tilted her head, as if they were analyzing them.

V: Goodbye to the surprise factor, idiot.
N: But, she-

Uzi's laughter began to increase as she approached them menacingly, so they "instinctively" began to back away. Uzi extended her claws ready to pounce on the poor defenseless group, as Doll could barely stand upright, V was missing an arm and his wounds were still not fully healed, N was the only one fit to fight, but it's not that the be willing to harm Uzi.
Just when she was about to pounce on them, suddenly the creature's arm grabbed her neck and pulled her close to him, showing that his "heart" had been reconnected by the cables that were reattached to his body. .

V: Oh you can't be serious!
N: Uzi!

N tried to go help her, but it was too late, the zombie opened her mouth and several new cables came out and stuck in Uzi's head. She struggled for a few seconds before going limp, N looked worried, but then the creature began to convulse violently, releasing Uzi.

The creature's body went rigid and then fell limp to the ground, this time truly dead.

V:…what the hell just happened?!
N: Ozi!
N quickly approached Uzi who was unconscious on the ground, he lifted her up and tried to make her react. On her visor could be seen a constantly rotating charge symbol.

N: Come on Uzi, she reacts.

N tried to see if she could do anything, but it's not like he really knew how to fix her, especially given the change in her body. But luckily for him, her visor came on and Uzi started to react, this time without that strange symbol on her face.

Uzi: Ugh, my head, what happened.
N: uzi

N hug Uzi happily.

Uzi: N… I… can't… breathe.
N: Oh, sorry.
Uzi: *gasp* Thanks, I felt like, wait-

It was at that moment that Uzi felt something strange in his back and her legs, when he turned to look, to say that she was surprised was an understatement.

Uzi: WHAT?! WHEN?! AS?!

Uzi looked in shock at her wings and legs, as well as her tail whose stinger was broken. But I also notice something, Thad's body lying on the ground, rapidly closing in on him.

Uzi: Oh Thad.
N: are you okay?
Uzi: Yes, only…

I look sadly at the body of her former friend.

N: Don't worry, it was for the best.

At that moment V coughed to get her attention.

V: I don't want to ruin her “moment”. But I think we should find a way to kill this thing.
Doll: Разве она не мерт-
V: Don't say it!
N: Say what?
V: That damn thing is dead because it surely isn't!

As if it was a response from fate, a strong earthquake started at that moment.

Uzi: Wow, what's going on?

She suddenly came to a stop... only for moments later what could be described as several giant tentacles made of wires to emerge from the ground towering over the group who were in a visible state of shock.

V:… How I hate myself.
Doll: Я тоже ненавижу тебя.
Uzi: FOR ROBOT-CHRIST WHAT THE HELL!
N(in a panic): This can't be happening, this can't be happening, this can't be happening.

Then one of the tentacles began to descend dangerously in the direction of the group that quickly began to flee.

Uzi: Watch out!

The tentacle crashed into the ground digging into it, although it missed by a considerable distance, the ground began to crack, creating a crack that began to widen more and more.

Uzi: wow

Uzi lost her balance due to his new legs and fell into the void, not that she's used to how to use them.

N: Uzi!

N quickly launched after her spreading her wings. V and Doll tried to escape, but it was useless, because the ground began to collapse and Doll was about to fall, but she managed to hold on to V, who tried to get her off of her.

V: Get off me!

V struggled with Doll, completely forgetting that the damn floor was opening up, which is why she didn't notice when a large piece of rock collided with them and made them fall into the void. The crack began to widen as it swallowed various debris, zombie remains… and Thad's body. While a certain artificial life construct was beginning to see its priorities.

YES, it was expected that episode 4 would be split into two parts due to how long it is, but I'm still glad to be able to release this before episode 5 of the series comes out as I don't want to see it and then have to change several things at the last minute, so the next part will be the last... of course if I don't overexplain it by mistake, XD.

Pdta: If you notice grammar errors or some misspelled words, it's because I don't speak English, use google translator to translate this, so some things may not be understood correctly.

The Anatomy of an Ideal Desktop VPN: A Gentleman’s Guide
When on the hunt for the perfect desktop VPN, one might fancy a digital Sherlock Holmes, the magnifying glass at the ready to scrutinize potential candidates. Here’s the checklist we've meticulously compiled to nab the crests of the VPN flock:
Firstly, the good VPN shall not jot down a solitary jot about your identity or the particulars of your use of its services. Anything less is simply not cricket.
Secondly, it should be sporting the latest and most reliable encryption standards, the sort of codes even an Enigma machine would tip its hat to.
In the third place, the VPN should provide a desktop app so user-friendly and well-constructed that even a member of the Drones Club could navigate it without batting an eyelid.
Fourthly, it should boast connection speeds as swift and steadfast as Jeeves responding to a summons bell.
Fifthly, one must not overlook the necessity of DNS leak protection. No one likes a sieve in their virtual world, after all.
Next up, a robust server network, sizable enough to flummox even Aunt Dahlia’s formidable pack of hunting hounds.
Support for torrenting should be offered, and I dare say, any VPN that doesn’t support this is as useful as a chocolate teapot.
Lastly, a truly top-tier VPN would offer a ticket to the streaming world — Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and the like — without the bother of geo-blocks. Rather like a personal invitation to the Drones Club.
NordVPN
Topping our list like Bertie Wooster topping the best-dressed list in The Drones Club, we present NordVPN, a Panama-based chap, free of those dreadfully invasive data retention laws. With a select offering of sturdy VPN protocols (OpenVPN, NordLynx, and IKEv2) at the helm, it commands an impressive fleet of 5600 servers scattered across 60 countries.
Mimicking the impeccable standards set by Jeeves himself, NordVPN has become something of a trendsetter in the VPN arena. Its ironclad no-logging policy could make the very walls blush with its refusal to pry into your online gallivanting. With the strength of modern encryption, it stood as firm as Lord Emsworth's prized pig against any IP, DNS, or WebRTC leaks in our testing.
Capitalizing on the grandeur of the desktop platform, NordVPN has engineered apps that are as handy as a cocktail at a Drones Club gathering. These cunningly crafted applications, both for desktop and mobile, come with a kill switch. This smart feature promptly stops any data leakage should the VPN pull a vanishing act. A sprightly ads and malware blocker also sits tucked under the wings of all NordVPN apps.
A marvel of digital swiftness, NordVPN galloped past its peers in our speed tests, proving ideal for torrenting and consuming high-quality streaming (4K/8K), which it robustly supports.
The versatility of NordVPN extends beyond the usual suspects (Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, iOS) and includes Amazon FireTV, NAS devices, and routers, becoming as indispensable as a stiff G&T at the end of a long day.
SurfsharkVPN
Making a splash in our pool of esteemed VPN providers, allow me to introduce Surfshark, a stalwart of the desktop VPN realm. Although this Netherlands-based character hasn't been treading the boards for quite as long as its elder peers, it nonetheless delivers a VPN performance that would draw a standing ovation.
Now, while the Netherlands isn't one to insist on data retention, it does hobnob with the Nine Eyes alliance. However, thanks to Surfshark's rather British stiff-upper-lip approach to privacy, it would be as bereft of user data as Bertie Wooster is of common sense, should any law enforcement chappies come knocking.
Lining up to the starting blocks are Surfshark's sturdy VPN protocols: OpenVPN, WireGuard, and IPsec. Running in tandem with 256-bit AES encryption, a SHA512 authentication hash, and 2048-bit DHE-RSA key exchange supporting perfect forward secrecy (PFS), it would give the Bounder's Club's annual three-legged race a run for its money. In our stringent tests, Surfshark shrugged off IP, DNS, or WebRTC leaks like a gentleman brushing off an unsolicited invitation to a poetry reading.
Every one of Surfshark's apps comes armed with a kill switch, as eager to step into the breach as Jeeves into a fix. Opt for a Surfhark One subscription, and you'll acquire antivirus software and a host of other perks, making it the equivalent of a well-stuffed picnic hamper.
Surfshark's performance in the realm of streaming is as exemplary as the service at the Drones Club. It's as dependable in China as it is in Chuffnell Regis, and it offers unlimited simultaneous connections to boot. And its suite of apps? Well, it covers Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, Android, and Amazon FireTV - making it as accommodating as Aunt Dahlia's chef Anatole.
ExpressVPN
ExpressVPN, hailing from the somewhat sunnier climes of the British Virgin Islands, which, despite its misleading moniker, is a land unencumbered by Her Majesty's rule.
In the VPN protocol department, ExpressVPN confidently fields a trinity of secure choices: OpenVPN, Lightway, and IKEv2. The middle chap, Lightway, is ExpressVPN's own prodigy, an open-source whiz kid that's always up for an audit. Moreover, these protocols gallantly serve across ExpressVPN's vast regiment of 3000+ servers.
Now, for the desktop and mobile apps, ExpressVPN has cooked up quite a feast. With user interfaces as inviting as Aunt Agatha's forced dinner parties are intimidating, they gracefully cater to both the novice nephew and the tech-savvy uncle. In short, no matter your proficiency in the arcane arts of technology, you'll find yourself as well-equipped as Wooster with Jeeves at his side.
A key factor of ExpressVPN's reputation could be compared to Bertie's famed collection of Spode china – unassailable quality. It employs AES-256 encryption, 4096-bit RSA keys, and SHA256 authentication, all supporting perfect forward secrecy (PFS), no less. ExpressVPN runs its servers from volatile memory (RAM), ensuring that no data could linger on the system's hard drives any more than a drop of Anatole's Bouillabaisse could remain in Bertie's bowl. With a kill switch included in all its apps, you're in safe hands, even if the VPN suddenly loses its footing. As for IP, DNS, or WebRTC leaks? ExpressVPN dodged these in our tests as deftly as a newt-nourished Gussie Fink-Nottle avoids Gertrude Winkworth's mother.
ExpressVPN is also no slouch when it comes to speed, proving to be one of the most fleet-footed VPNs in our roster. Its aptitude for streaming is as impeccable as its adherence to punctuality, even managing to charm notoriously finicky services. ExpressVPN offers native apps for Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, Android, and a few select routers, making it as versatile as Jeeves himself.
Desktop VPN: A Stroll in the Park or, How To Be More Like Jeeves In Your Internet Endeavours
Setting up a VPN on a desktop (or indeed, a laptop, for our portable-inclined friends) is as straightforward as Wooster's Drones Club membership. There is no need to learn any secret handshake or arcane ritual, the procedure is universally applicable.
Here's the step-by-step to getting your VPN running smoother than Barmy Fotheringay-Phipps' latest anecdote:
If you have not yet thrown your hat in the ring with one of our recommended VPN providers, it's high time you do so. As a personal favour, might we suggest you start with the crème de la crème - our favourite, NordVPN.
Next, proceed to download your chosen provider's app onto your device, as seamlessly as Jeeves procures the morning paper.
Now, your provider should have laid out a veritable roadmap for setting up your VPN. Generally, it's as simple as selecting a server and then nonchalantly tapping the "Connect" button as one might tap one's champagne flute for a toast. Should you stumble upon a hiccup or two, your VPN provider stands ready to assist, like Jeeves with a calming restorative.
And there you have it! The VPN app now hums away quietly in the background, as unobtrusive and efficient as our dear Jeeves attending to Wooster's affairs.
The Fine Art of VPN Evaluation, or How To Assess Your Internet Butler
Here is the blueprint we have adhered to in the pursuit of a thoroughly comprehensive review of VPNs. In order to maintain a certain level of decorum and fairness, and to avoid the proverbial fruit salad comparison, we thought it best to lay our evaluation cards on the table.
Speed: In the realm of VPNs, speed is much like the punctuality of a proper valet, immensely crucial. A lethargic connection can turn an otherwise delightful browsing or streaming experience into an agonising slog. Rest assured, we've put our favoured VPNs through their paces in the latest speed tests.
Global servers: The availability of servers worldwide is akin to having an assortment of clubs in your golf bag. It grants the freedom to dodge geographical restrictions and allows you to choose a server in close proximity to ensure top speed.
Protocol variety: A versatile VPN provider should offer multiple secure protocols, much like a versatile butler should be able to mix a variety of cocktails. Depending on the situation, one might prove more advantageous than another. Just as Bertie might prefer a Martini some evenings and a Brandy Alexander on others, you'll want the flexibility of protocols like IKEv2, OpenVPN, and WireGuard.
User-friendly interface: Much like Jeeves, a VPN should be unobtrusive and easy to manage, regardless of one's proficiency with the latest tech. We ensure our selected providers offer apps as straightforward as a stroll in the park.
Streaming services: Securing access to streaming sites via a VPN can be as tricky as getting Wooster out of a fix. Some VPN providers offer this service with varying degrees of success. We test each contender with popular streaming platforms such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, BBC iPlayer, Disney+, Hulu, HBO Max, and more.
Torrenting: VPN users often enjoy a good torrenting session as much as a member of the Drones Club enjoys a game of billiards. Not all providers permit this activity on their networks. We scrutinise each VPN's policy regarding torrenting and examine how effectively it supports this function.
Security and Privacy: In essence, these are the raison d'être for VPNs. It's as if we were inquiring about the trustworthiness and discretion of a new butler. What is their stance on privacy? How do they handle logs? What encryption protocols are in use? Do they utilise solid ciphers? Do they provide Perfect Forward Secrecy (PFS)? Are there any potential leak vulnerabilities? These questions are our guiding light when evaluating a VPN's commitment to privacy and security.

This means that the phone has different frequencies and network protocols that may not be supported by Sprint's system.
Another possible issue with compatibility is related to software updates. Some carriers have strict guidelines for which devices can receive OS updates, and if the Pixel 2 isn't officially supported by Sprint, it may not receive the latest Android updates or security patches in a timely manner. This could pose a problem for users who rely on their phone for work or personal use.
In conclusion, while the Google Pixel 2 is an excellent smartphone in many respects, its compatibility with specific carriers like Sprint should be carefully considered before making a purchase decision. The phone offers a sleek design, high-quality camera, and powerful performance that will satisfy most users.
Another option for Sprint users looking to switch things up is the iPhone SE. This device offers similar features to the newer models of iPhones but at a more affordable price point. It also offers compatibility with Sprint's network and allows users to enjoy faster speeds and better coverage in many areas.Overall, there are plenty of alternative options available for Sprint users who want to explore new devices or need something more budget-friendly than what the carrier typically offers. By considering these alternatives like the Google Pixel 2 or iPhone SE, customers can find a device that suits their needs without compromising on quality or performance.
Other phones that work better on the network
If you're looking for a phone that works well on the Sprint network, there are plenty of options out there. One great choice is the Samsung Galaxy S9, which boasts excellent call quality and fast data speeds. The LG V30 is another solid pick, with its large screen and powerful processor.
But what about the Google Pixel 2? While this phone was not originally designed for use on the Sprint network, it can still work if you activate it using a Sprint SIM card. However, some users have reported issues with dropped calls or slow data speeds when using the Pixel 2 on Sprint. If you're set on this phone and want to use it with Sprint, be sure to do your research first and make sure you know what to expect in terms of performance.
Conclusion: In the world of smartphones, compatibility with different carriers is a significant factor to consider when purchasing a new device. One frequently asked question is whether the Google Pixel 2 can work on Sprint's network. While some may assume that all modern smartphones are compatible with all carriers, this is not always the case.
Before delving into whether the Google Pixel 2 works on Sprint, it's essential to understand the device's specifications and capabilities. Additionally, it may be helpful to explore alternative solutions such as buying Gmail accounts or Yahoo accounts to ensure seamless connectivity with your carrier of choice. 2023.06.06 02:35 Voltiashima Circle of the Watchers (WIP)

So in 5th edition, as many of us are aware. Druids are underplayed, underrated and in some but not all cases, underpowered.
I’m entering a new campaign where my DM allowed us (several months in advance) to make homebrew stuff and ofc it will need to be adjusted along the way. This is what I have come up with.
Please note that this is a draft. Changes will be made before I start this new campaign.
((Notes: made for 5E and I recommend you ask your DM to see if your Druid can wear metal if you want as it does make sense for them to buy isn’t part of the desc - my dm came up with a new type of metal that druids can use native to the Fey wilds))
Name: Circle of the Watchers
Desc: Circle of the watchers connect through the earth on an inner level, they study and organise their thoughts towards their surroundings, following a cycle of nature. Birth, Learn, Adapt, Tradition and Survival.
Level 2 features:
Learning Journal of Shifting - Starting at level 2, during downtime, you may focus on summoning or making a magical journal. The journal holds an amount of pages equal to your wisdom and proficiency bonus combined. Whilst holding the journal you gain the following.
Birth of a faithful companion
Your journal evolves and brings to life a Faithful Companion. You can describe what it looks like or use the table provided below. The Creature follows a particular set of rules as seen below. - The creature is classed as small - Not capable of speech. However, you can telepathically communicate with the creature if it is within 120ft - Walk speed of 30ft. - Actions and movements are separate from the player - 20 HP - Same Core Stats as Player - Obeys the player - In combat dodge action is taken every turn (unless wildshaped) - If the creature falls to 0 HP, it dies instantly and can be resummoned by completing a 4-hour summoning ritual whilst resting. Your Journal must be present to conduct this ritual. - As an action or bonus action the companion can assume the form of any creature that has been written in the Players Journal. This is treated as wildshape - classed as a beast for all spell-related situations regardless of appearance
Faithful Companion Style Table Roll (1D6) Outcome 1 A small, green, slime 2 A small, grey, quadrupedal cloud 3 A small, red, robot 4 A small, purple, Lizard 5 A small, yellow, snake 6 A small, orange, snail
Natural Way of Survival Spell Absorption Level 6 When seeing a spell being cast, you may study how to use it but at a percentage of its strength. the spell is added to your spell list and does not count as a prepared spell. They are counted as a druid spell for you however you must still use the original casting type (INT, WIS, CHA) that was used when viewing it.
When activating this feature to learn a spell, roll a D10 and multiply the result by 10.
Role all spells like normal however afterwards, deduct the given percentage from: (rounding up or down if a decimal is to the DM’s discretion) - Healing spells - The amount of health given lowered by the percentage - Concentration - maximum duration of spell lowered by the percentage - Damaging spells - outputted damage lowered
Level 10 Features:
Adaptive Shaping
Your knowledge of shifting deepens. As an action OR bonus action you can choose to: - When using your wildshape feature on yourself, choose to only take 1 feature (ability or stat) from the target, keeping you stats. - When your Faithful Companion is wildshaping, it can now assume Your humanoid form for 1 minute. In combat, you share a movement speed however have separate actions and reactions. Your Companion can now talk for the wild shape duration. Your Companion does not have any Bonus Actions. - You may now rip out a journal page and give it to another creature. When the journal page is ripped or torn by a creature, it transforms into the creature on the page. If the creature is unwilling it can make a CON saving throw against your spell DC, on a success it losses it's action. On a loss it assumes the from for half the wildshape time.
This feature can only be used a number of times equal to: 1 + your Wisdom (WIS) Modifier. All expended uses are reset on a long rest.

My Full The Flash Review: Cleverly Gets Us Up to Speed on Flash's Backstory but is More Sugar Rush than Satisfying Journey
This review is based on a free preview screening held in the U.S. on June 1st, 2023, two weeks before the movie's official opening date. Note that this screening did NOT include any credits or post-credits scenes, which I don't know if the final movie will have or not. The director's name came up after the final shot, and then the screen shut off. This review is spoiler-free, but does discuss plot points that are visible in the film's trailers. I may say things like a certain character had a lot of scenes or barely any scenes, so if that's too much information for you, don't read it. I DO NOT spoil the appearance of any character not seen in the trailers.
My review:
7 out of 10 or 3.5 stars out of 5 or B+
The Flash arrives in cinemas not with the urgency of a speeding bullet, but as one of the most long-awaited superhero origin movies in history. The character's comic book debut dates back to 1939, making him one of the founding fathers of the superhero genre. He's carried more than one TV series, from 1990 to the present day. He made his film debut played by Ezra Miller in a brief civilian-garbed cameo in 2016's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, then in costume in 2017's Justice League. Now, after decades of stop-and-go development with too many director changes to count, Ezra's version of The Flash finally gets his name top-billed (if just barely) on the marquee in his own movie. The Flash's director is Andy Muschietti, joining his second big studio franchise after his 2017 and 2019 two-part adaptation of Stephen King's It.
The advance buzz for The Flash has broken the tradition of every new DC Comics movie being sold as "the best superhero movie since Dark Knight," by instead telling us that The Flash is "one of the best superhero movies ever made." That's a high bar to ask any superhero movie to live up to, and The Flash, as you might have predicted, doesn't live up to that billing. It can more realistically be described as the best DC Comics movie since 2018's Aquaman that takes place in the primary DC cinematic universe. The basic bare minimum that any superhero origin story has to do is to explain what the character's powers are, tell us how the character got them, and convince us that the character and his powers are interesting. The Flash succeeds at meeting that more realistic bar. This movie is a perfectly adequate introduction to this culturally significant comic book character for the world at large. Where the movie loses its focus and interest is with its effort to send Flash through a travelogue that traverses the multiverse in search of other super-powered characters for him to pal around with.
This movie was faced with a difficult challenge in telling Flash's origin, in that the character had already been introduced in the DC film series, with nary a word spoken about how he got his powers. The Flash's screenplay is ingenious in the way it tells his origin story without relying on the old cliche of the flashback sequence. It's no secret from the trailers that Flash employs his time travel powers in the movie, and ends up meeting a younger version of himself. Like most modern movies that deal with time travel, this one indulges in making Back to the Future references, some of which will be very funny the more you know about Back to the Future. The plot deals with the same absurd and fascinating situation explored in Back to the Future II, where two versions of the same character exist in the same place at the same time. This gives Flash another character with less knowledge than himself, who he has a good reason to explain things to, much like Doc Brown explains things to Marty in Back to the Future. This device allows the audience to learn everything we need to know about the Flash's origins and powers in an organic way that feels active, natural and spontaneous. Audiences who have little prior knowledge of The Flash will likely be surprised at a lot of the things he can do, but they'll also understand why he can do them with ease thanks to the movie's clever storytelling.
Chemistry in movies is an elusive concept to define. Sometimes two actors who weren't even on set at the same time can have their dialogue edited together later and still appear to have "chemistry." This can be seen in Ralph Macchio's and Pat Morita's screen tests for the Karate Kid, which were shot separately but edited together by the director and posted on YouTube. That dynamic is certainly on display with Ezra Miller's performance(s) in The Flash. The chemistry between the two Flashes is as vibrant and electric as the special effects seen when Flash runs at full speed. Ezra deftly plays the two versions of the Flash in subtly different ways, which helps draw human comedy out of the old, reliable "odd couple" concept. The movie is nothing if not full of in-jokes, and at one point there even seems to be one made at Ezra's expense, based on the actor's recent court trial. I'm not sure what the timing was of when that scene was filmed, and whether it's art imitating life or the other way around. The scenes with the two Flashes seem to be very accessible to the general audience, but this in-joke is one sign of how the movie is often geared towards rewarding the most ardent fans and followers with "Easter egg" moments.
While Flash is ostensibly being graced with his first solo starring movie role here, that didn't stop the studio from deciding that not one, but two Batmen will appear with him in it, Michael Keaton's and Ben Affleck's. And a female version of Superman. And a Superman villain who's crossing over from another movie. And maybe some other surprise guest appearances. It's hard to explain why Warner Brothers felt the need to take this approach with Flash, when the recent film debuts for Wonder Woman and Aquaman were so successful without using any major crossover gimmicks. Perhaps the greatest casualty of this heavy focus on other superheroes is Flash's love interest, Iris West, played by the charmingly baby-faced Kiersey Clemons. She has great chemistry with Ezra herself, but she barely appears in the movie. This is a character who is likely to be a lot more important to Flash's future than these other superheroes, but she barely gets an introduction here. As we've seen all too often in this genre, crossovers with other superheroes always spell doom for the lead character's civilian supporting cast. The other problem with this approach is that these guest stars and cameos never come off as more than the aforementioned gimmicks. The guest stars deliver their famous catchphrases, show off their well-known costumes, powers and gear, and offer a little bit of obligatory dialogue to explain what they've been doing since we last saw them. But they don't get any real character development or satisfying beginnings, middles and ends to their stories.
Several newer Batman movies have shown us that they can go a lot deeper psychologically than the original Michael Keaton Batman movies did. But no added depth has been given to Keaton's version of Batman here. The filmmakers seem content to rely on a few nostalgic references. Keaton has become a more interesting actor in recent years too, but he isn't given any new angle on the character to explore in this performance. Even his aging is barely acknowledged. Keaton has certainly aged well, still fits the suit perfectly, and can pull off his action scenes convincingly. But this movie doesn't give him much to do beyond the action, short of a few cliched speeches about his parents' deaths with the requisite violins playing on the soundtrack. All this movie really does for Keaton's Batman is whet our appetite to see his character explored in more depth in a potential future Batman sequel. I'm sure Keaton has the potential to do much more with the character than the material allowed him to here.
Other, more modern DC characters and actors also show up, to varying degrees of effectiveness. One of those is Ben Affleck's Batman, who, in a briefer appearance than Keaton's, manages to deliver more meaningful and memorable dialogue in this movie than his 1989 predecessor does. The big action scene with Affleck's Batman and the Flash isn't disappointing either. It more than adequately fulfills the promise of a DC cinematic universe centered around the Justice League that director Zack Snyder, the former top architect of DC's film universe, made to us in his movies several years ago. This fast, elaborate, exciting and very expensive-looking sequence set in a bustling cityscape exists as an almost separate entity from the rest of the movie, much like the classic James Bond prologues, and it almost steals the show from the rest of the movie, much like the classic Indiana Jones prologues. It must be said, however, that almost all of the Batman action in this movie loses some of the character's mystique by taking place more or less in broad daylight, rather than during the Dark Knight's signature territory of the night.
If crossing over with the Batman bible wasn't enough, The Flash is just as eager to dip its toes into Superman's world. But, this time, it's without any real appearance by the big blue boy himself. Instead, the first movie version in almost 30 years of Superman's famous cousin, Supergirl, takes center stage. This version of Supergirl abandons the traditional blonde hair and red skirt that she's worn since her first comic book appearance in 1959 for short, dark hair and the same full-length tights that Henry Cavill's Man of Steel sported. She's played by Sasha Calle, an actress of Colombian descent. Supergirl continues the increasingly tiresome tradition of new DC characters being introduced in movies with a "to be determined" note attached to their origin story. She seems to be in the middle of her story when she enters in the middle of this movie to help the other heroes battle Michael Shannon's General Zod, reprising his role from 2013's Man of Steel. Yes, Zod died in that movie, but time travel, multiverse, Back to the Future, etc., etc. Sasha's performance is lacking a certain warmth or charm. Supergirl acts less like a middle American-bred human being, and more like one of the cold Kryptonians that accompany General Zod and speak with vague foreign accents. Whatever character development she has is handled in an extremely abbreviated and perfunctory way, much like what Keaton's Batman suffers in this movie. As for General Zod, I'm frankly surprised to learn they called back Michael Shannon to film new scenes. Everything here looks like it could've been pieced together from old Man of Steel footage and some CGI. Absolutely nothing new is explored with his character. He's nothing more than a prop in someone else's story, which leaves this movie feeling deprived in the villain department. The Flash eventually finds its own way to make a compelling point about good and evil, but it doesn't give us the kind of strong, new villain character that most of the major DC origin movies have.
Andy Muschietti's direction, particularly in terms of his visual style, isn't always as polished as you would expect from a big-budget special effects movie. If you didn't already know he was coming fresh from independent and lower-budget films that often make use of a surrealist style, you might be able to deduce it from watching The Flash. Half the time, the special effects here are not trying to create a convincing, lifelike world, the way movies like Avatar do. They often seem more expressionistic and, yes, surreal. The movie has tried to find its own way of portraying time travel and the multiverse that hasn't been done before. But I wasn't really sold on this being a good way to do it. And the battle scenes that this movie imports from Man of Steel made me feel more like I was playing a video game than like I was watching Man of Steel again. To be fair, the studio has been saying that the advance version I saw was not the final cut, although it's a mere two weeks prior to the official release date. There may be a fine line between surrealism and unfinished special effects. All I can say is that what the special effects lack in polish, they seem to be trying to make up for with style, but not in as consistently effective a way as I would have liked to have seen.
What holds the movie back the most from being as good as Dark Knight, or from being one of the best superhero movies ever, is the too often facile nature of Hollywood wunderkind Christina Hodson's screenplay. Major characters like Keaton's Batman, Calle's Supergirl and Shannon's Zod are dealt with in a very simplified and superficial manner. The Flash himself is given great texture through Ezra's skillful and inspired acting, but even some of his character's big moments seem to come out of nowhere, without the story having laid the necessary groundwork and connective tissue to support them. The overwhelming feeling generated by The Flash is that the movie is extremely eager to jump from "money shot" to "classic one-liner" to "heartfelt dialogue" without providing the necessary investment in proper storytelling to earn all of those moments. I can't help but get the feeling from the reported last-minute editing the movie is going through that the filmmakers are struggling to figure out why the movie isn't paying off quite as strongly with audiences as they had hoped. All of the big moments that audiences are supposed to love are there, after all, aren't they? But a movie can't just aim for non-stop entertainment. It can't be all payoff and no setup. A proper story needs to pace itself, to take the time to develop, breathe and grow. A fulfilling meal can't be just a series of sugar highs. It also has to have some fundamental nutritional value. The Flash races from one dazzling excitement to another at the speed of light, but it ends up leaving the viewer almost as starved for calories as they were when the movie started.

_________________________________________
A dark planet turned slowly in the void bathed in the light of an old yellow star far past its prime. The planet was old, unlike the countless beings that scurried across its blasted surface. From the vantage point of space far above, the gigantic craters that covered its surface were painfully apparent. Some terrible bombardment had nearly torn the planet in two sometime in its ancient history.
These were the thoughts foremost on the mind of the vast entity that observed the world from the depths of a large misshapen ship of truly gargantuan proportions. The ship orbited the planet far enough away to be unseen, a truly difficult task due to its almost moon-like size.
Deep in the ship’s core, a consciousness woke fully. This being had slumbered for millennia as they waited for the ship’s more automated systems to bring them to something interesting. As they awoke this entity checked the ships logs, two thousand years of reports were absorbed and compiled in mere millincrements such was the being’s incredible processing power.
They stretched mentally, running their consciousness throughout every lesser ten of the ship's millions of greater tens of circuits and wires. It had been centuries since they had last woken for more than a few increments, it was a good feeling.
The ship’s computer communicated with them. “Master Neel, It is good to have you with us.” the computer said nonverbally. The communication happening instead as a base impression across his many connections to the system all at once.
Neel observed the planet remotely using some of the vast worldship's many external sensors. After a few moments of observation Neel inquired the computer. “Have we traveled to this planet before?”
The computer replied quickly “I do not believe so, it bears passing resemblance to a planet we visited in the far past. But it can't be the same planet.” the computer concluded.
Neel frowned and then decided to exit his stasis chamber. The heavily shielded inner sanctum of the ship was a mess of electrical conduits and databanks that held his vast intellect when the ship was underway. Using faster than light means of propulsion could damage many of the curiosities in his vast collection and so for many tens of millions of greater increments he had traveled the cosmos slower than the speed of light.
While slow it was a deliberate action to protect him from the watchful eyes of the obliterators. The destroyers commonly kept watch over the cosmos and were known to eliminate those they could not contain or control. Neel had no wish to be destroyed and so took their time getting around for the sake of stealth. Even the destroyers would be unlikely to detect a single ship not breaking the natural laws in a vast and ever expanding universe.
Disengaging their mental locks, Neel disconnected from the artificial sanctuary and into their physical vessel. Their vessel was an artificial body of sorts, fashioned in a form that Neel found pleasing.
Their vessel was very tall with six manipulating tentacle-like metal arms and a multitude of pointed insect-like legs. Their face was a mess of tubes and wires with no discernible features other than the five bright green glowing eyes that stared out at the world around them intensely.
Neel’s consciousness settled down into the large body like it was a comfortable bed, an electronic sigh passing through them as they disconnected from the ship.
Neel started their vessel’s internal vacuum generators. Devices of their own design that drew electrical power directly from the quantum fluctuations of the universe. Quite a simple thing really, they must seem remarkable to those not nearly as versed as them in the nature of the universe. But Neel was well versed indeed, they knew the purpose of it all, and the dark knowledge often made them wish they had never discovered it.
Turning their attention back to their muted surroundings Neel activated the bridge’s lights with a thought. The ship was a part of them, though simultaneously separate. Together they made a complete entity, though Neel admitted that it was sometimes less distracting to be on their own instead of bonded to the Preserver. That was the name he had chosen for his worldship upon its completion. He had no memories of the event, or of how it had been built. Neither did the Preserver, instead Neel’s earliest coherent memory was that of light. Blinding light.
A star exploding and the ship jumping into emergency compression drive to escape the blast. They had arrived many light years away damaged and broken from the violent energies that had lashed the ship. But they had survived.
Neel scuttled across the deck and to one of the automated steering consoles. They double checked the ship’s course for accuracy and were satisfied to see no inherent issues.
Next they walked though the ship for a time to get to the records hall. They could have zipped there almost instantly with a thought, but they had always enjoyed the action of taking their time. They had a nearly infinite amount of it after all.
The Preserver chimed at them as they walked. “If you are going to the records hall to check the data I can give you access here and save you the trouble Master Neel.” The disembodied voice said in a modulated tone and frequency.
Neel waved a series of arms towards one of the many wall mounted sensors that the ship used to see and replied “Why? What would be the purpose of walking if not to enjoy the walk. I know you could have forwarded the data to me directly on the bridge, but there is a simplistic pleasure to taking one’s time. How many times have I told you that old friend.”
The ship was silent for a few increments as Neel scuttled down dimly lit metal passageways and through dusty hatches. They shook their head in a strange yet familiar motion as they took in the state of the ship. It was dirty, grimy almost.
Neel paused by a strange bundle of filaments and tested them with a single flexible manipulator digit. Plucking them curiously Neel found they seemed to be organic. In fact as they touched them they noticed a small and curious creature skuttle out of the dark in the direction of the disturbance. Delighted at this new and fascinating discovery they coaxed the small creature out into the light.
They observed it closely, zooming in on its features while scanning it in multiple electromagnetic spectrums. Neel found that the creature seemed to fluoresce in the ultraviolet spectrum, its small body covered in swirling organic patterns. It must be able to see into the ultraviolet spectrum Neel mused, otherwise what possible purpose could such patterning serve?
Reaching into a recess in their body they produced a specimen stasis capsule. Carefully scooping up the creature, they activated the micro stasis field generator and the small curiosity seemed to freeze in place. Replacing the container they then turned and continued along the corridor making a mental note to return and analyze the filaments more closely at a future time.
It took a little longer than Neel remembered to reach the great library, which made sense as the Preserver was constantly in flux. They entered the room and slowed to a halt. It always hit them when they entered into the massive space for the first time after a lengthy hibernation. The room was lit with bright yellowish lights high in the cavernous ceiling. The walls were covered in shelves and databanks, not a single square length was bare of some form of data storage medium.
Neel walked in amongst the towering shelves and ran their fingers along the uncountable thousands of books, manuscripts, scrolls and data crystals stored within small stasis cabinets. Hidden inside this sanctum was Neel’s life’s work, the compiled data of tens of thousands of worlds, millions of species and a billion years of searching the universe for something more.
Sometimes when the ship was traveling the void between stars Neel would come and spend years here, just absorbing the ancient knowledge. But today they were looking for something specific. Moving along to one of the many wall mounted dataports, they inserted a spike like digit from the end of a flexible tendril. The full enormity of the vast library exploded into their conscious mind, only their prodigious intelligence keeping them from being overwhelmed by the sheer quantity of data.
Searching for a while they found the folder they were looking for and accessed its location. Neel was in luck, it was remote accessible meaning they wouldn't have to traverse kilometers of this labyrinth to find the data. While that was usually an enjoyable experience, Neel found that their curiosity was overwhelming their patience.
The data filled their mind and Neel saw a planet spinning tranquilly in their mind's eye. The planet that bore a striking similarity to the one they now orbited, in fact, comparing the star logs and accounting for drift, the constellations were the same too. That proved it, they were in fact in the orbit of Ixninth, the evolutionary homeworld of the peaceful humbub.
Neel cocked their head, that was odd. The last time they had been in contact with the humbub their planet was nearing a full scale type one civilization. Full planetary control was theirs and they had taken the first tentative steps out into their solar system with a few far flung colonies and outposts in the orbit of the outer planets.
Now there was nothing, no evidence of the star realm they had once ruled. Something must have happened while Neel had been traveling through the cosmos. Something no doubt related to the strange crater-like formations on the planet’s surface.
Neel scanned the other planets in the system and found that most bore evidence of similar impacts, a few of the smaller moons seemed to have been obliterated entirely. Just the drifting charred remains in orbit of their scarred planets.
They addressed the computer once more verbally. “Preserver, we have indeed visited this system before. It is the humbub’s home system.”
The ship spoke through their implant, the disembodied voice cool and calm while it discussed topics of annihilation. “It would seem some sort of natural cataclysm must have befallen them then. There is evidence of incredible kinetic bombardment. Perhaps a rogue black hole disrupted the outer debris fields?’ the computer speculated blandly.
Neel looked back to the images of the systems battered planets. “I believe something terrible has happened here, are you sure there is no evidence of foul play? No signs of void conflict?”
They began to walk out of the library and towards the main atrium. The Preserver asked “Are you telling me to scan for debris or asking if I had already done so?”
Neel paused and apologised “Yes, I am sorry old friend. You have of course anticipated my question and scanned the area for wreckage. I can postulate based on your silence that you did not find any evidence to support the claim?”
Neel started walking again as the ship confirmed their observation. “I will of course continue to scan the area in case of potential hostile threats, but I do not expect to find anything of note. It looks like the act of a hostile universe, not the acts of barbaric lifeforms.”
Neel nodded again, this time entirely for their own benefit. That is about what they had been expecting anyways, if the growing theory in their mind was correct then they would likely find no evidence of foul play at all. At least, not in the conventional sense.
Perking up a little their green eyes shone bright as a new idea struck them. “Preserver, scan the main planet. Look for any signs of technology or ruins of technology. I will get to the bottom of this situation one way or another.”
The computer replied “Already started when it became clear to me you were set on this investigative action. I can report with ninety five percent certainty that there are no technological ruins on the planet. There is a large and well preserved ruin in the upper hemisphere. Would you like a scope on it?”
Neel waved at the air and replied “Yes, yes of course. Let me see what you have found.”
In their mind they saw the feed from one of the massive ship’s many outward facing telescopes. On the current one they saw it swivel towards the planet. Enhancing the image it zoomed in until Neel could almost count each blade of grass on the ground. In front of their very eyes was a large collection of half buried structures. While they did not look technological in origin, any clue to a history undiscovered was a good clue.
“Good work my friend, I will have to make sure we pull a flyby on a blue hypergiant giant so you can recharge your entanglement drives. You earned it.” They spoke to the Preserver in fondness.
The ship answered in a much more subdued manner “That would be appreciated Neel. My compression generators have been a bit chilly of late. I assume you will want to venture to the surface personally? May I suggest an assortment of weapons?”
Neel waved a hand as they entered the vast and colorful main atrium. It was only a few kilometers from the bridge, but it was a sight well worth the walk. That coupled with the fact that it connected directly to the small hangar bay where the many parasite ships were stored.
Neel walked across the room to the hangar and entered one of the small single occupant shuttles. The Preserver spoke once more in their mind. “If you are intent on going down to the surface would you at least let me launch an orbital observation platform to assist you?”
Neel paused at the controls and then said “Yes, might as well. You never know what’s going to happen in the future, that's what makes living in the present so exciting.”
***********
Jrax woke with a satisfied stretch, today was the day. He had been busy excavating the ruins of the forbidden zone in secret for almost a full year now. Only Zieve knew he was here, and the young man was unlikely to turn him in as he was just as interested in the mysteries of the ancients as he was.
Jrax stood to his feet and twisted at the waist in a futile attempt to crack his lower back. Unsuccessful he looked around, he couldn't see Zieve anywhere, usually the young man was out here before he had even had a chance for his morning zalv. The comforting warmth of a fresh cup of the dark orange liquid was a better wake up than anything else he had yet to discover. He had shown the benefits of drinking fresh zalv to a few of his colleges but it had yet to fully take off. Something about the dried and powdered fruit gave him a zest for life and alertness that was addictive in its effectiveness, and a little addictive in general.
But that was not the important reason he was here. He put a small pot of the mixture on the boil as he pulled his notebook out of his waist pouch. The small leather bound manuscript contained everything he knew of the ancients and their strange ways of life.
According to the few tablets and inscriptions he had so far recovered, the ancients lived in the void and traveled this strange realm of nonexistence in vast ships of solid metal. Why they would have needed to be made of metal made no sense to him. Surely wood would have been much lighter and cheaper? Maybe it was a style thing, from what he could gather the ancients made almost everything out of metal. Such was their vast power and wealth they were able to extract metal from the void itself.
This had always sat ill with him, everyone knew of the void, the space outside of reality. But surely they couldn't do such things as the void was empty, wasn't it? Perhaps the great teachings warning of the demons that lurked in the void were false after all. It was said that the void used to be full of life, an infinite world to build upon. One day the demons had come from beyond the realms of the humbub and devoured all that existed without till at last they rained fire and death upon Ixninth. The celestial realms of the humbub had been reduced to ashes and the survivors fled their metal cities in terror as they were consumed by the angry earth.
He shook his head. The mythos of their people was a fractured thing, handed down largely through word of mouth by millennia of terrified priests who had no real understanding of what they should be so afraid of.
He knew, it had been a hard truth to swallow but in his studies of the forbidden ruins he had made discoveries. Discoveries like the identity of their ancient destroyers.
They were not demons at all, they just looked like them, their bodies twisted and monstrous, their hunger for destruction nearly insatiable. They killed for fun and destroyed the remains, the fact that they hadn't killed all of the ancients was a miracle likely attributed to the paranoia of certain individuals. Places like these ruins had been ancient refuges to them, structures buried far into the guts of the mother earth called bunkers. An affront on nature, but necessary for the survival of their race.
It had taken thousands of years from what he had been able to gather before the planet was once more survivable on the surface. They left their ancient bunkers and found that all that once had been was no more. They had begun again.
Jrax was happy to be alive, especially knowing some of the struggle that his ancestors must have gone through just to survive. He put thoughts of such things out of mind and busied himself combing his fur. It wouldn't do to get mangey knots from a lack of self attention, he was a respectable scholar afterall.
His snout crinkled in a small snarl as he thought of Primo Haxix, the premiere leader of the Church of Brox in his home city of Broxix. The man was a devout follower of Brox’s teachings, and his most severe hurtle to spreading the truth of things. The closeminded man refused to see reason.
Done with his morning grooming he pulled on his open fronted work shirt, the rough fabric a little itchy against his fur but necessary to protect him from biting insects and the sun. It was hot near the ruins, the lack of vegetation one of the reasons the Primo called the land cursed. From what he had found it was no more cursed than any other piece of land, it had something to do with things called water concentrators he had discovered. He didn't understand the concept fully, but it seemed that the area was perpetually dry like the Neeix Desert to the south. A strange concept but it certainly explained why nothing would grow there.
Putting on his sandals and grabbing his excavation kit he slung the bag over his shoulder and started out of camp. He dodged around and through a thick copse of trees, his camp hidden from view in order to protect it from fanatics and the church’s spies. The area around the ruins was constantly under surveillance, he had been spotted a few times and chased but luckily his identity had never been uncovered.
He checked that the coast was clear and then made a quick transition to the bushes a few dozen feet away. Sighing as he didnt hear the telltale sounds of pursuit he continued on. The pack was heavy but he was undeterred.
Normally traveling alone into the wilderness would be tantamount to suicide, the many ferocious predators of their homeworld converging on a lone individual, but he was unafraid. The ruins protected him, some sort of aura seemed to surround the area that deterred the predators from approaching. He had read of it on the inscriptions, it was called a protection grid in the ancient texts that adorned the walls of the ruin, but he had yet to truly parse what it meant.
Whatever it was he was grateful for it as it allowed him to work in peace without constantly having to watch his back against attack from the abominations the demons had left behind.
He walked along the narrow and hidden path he had forged through the dense undergrowth towards the ruins. He shook his furred head, Zeive was probably already there. The young man was always excited to help him make some new discovery or ancient find. Yes, there was nothing to worry about.
Almost as soon as he told himself that he had nothing to worry about he tripped and landed hard on the soft sandy soil. Crawling to his feet he heard the unmistakable sounds of clanking armour plates and was soon surrounded by church soldiers. Resplendent in their brown leather greatcoats and shining steel breastplates.
“Oh..” Was all he said, a plethora of steel spear points at his throat.
Another sound met his ears and he looked behind him. From the path he watched a magnificently maned man stroll towards him, crimson cloak over his brushed leather overcoat covered in fine gold buckles. It was Primo Haxix, his biggest detractor and the most powerful person in all of Broxix.
Primo Haxix strode to him and laughed, a thoroughly nasty sound, devoid of mirth or joy. “Wow, I knew it had to have been an ignorant son of a demon to have crossed into the forbidden zone. But you? You have got to be the dumbest intellectual I have ever met. Clap him in irons, bring him to the fortress of Brox.” The ostentatious humbub then strode away regally as if they cared no more for his welfare, and they likely didn't. Jrax heard the unmistakable sound of a frourn drawn carriage, likely to carry the Primo’s lazy ass back to the capital.
One of the soldiers produced a set of iron clamps which they applied to his wrists, the metal pinching his arm hair painfully and he chirped in discomfort.
“Follow me or I will make you follow.” The man said gruffly.
Jrax did as he was told. No reason to get a beating on top of his arrest.
The soldiers led him through the brush and out to the main roadway. The road was simple hard packed earth, but it served its purpose. Leading right to the edge of the forbidden zone.
He snorted as they led him back along the road towards Broxix. It was a large city, almost fifty thousand inhabitants lived and died within an afternoon’s hike of the ruins and yet they knew nothing of their own history. The Church taught that the demons had destroyed their ancestors and all they had built before Brox took them into the belly of Ixninth for their protection. But that wasn't entirely true. It wasn't the whole truth in any event, and in Jrax’s opinion that was tantamount to lying.
They marched for an hour before the leader of the troop called a halt near a small roadside inn that catered to pilgrims. He looked at Jrax and said gruffly “We are stooping for refreshment, would you like some water?”
Jrax nodded suspiciously and the man gestured to a few of the others to go into the building.
Jrax watched as the trio of so-called holy soldiers kicked the door open and rushed in, swords drawn. Screaming and the sound of crashing furniture could be heard and Jrax chirped angrily but was kept from remarking by a threatening glare from the troop leader.
After a few more minutes of this the sounds ceased and the three soldiers exited carrying food and wine as well as a small bladder of water.
The wine and dried meat morsels were shared about as the troop leader approached with the water and stopped. Staring at Jrax, the man proceeded to unstop the bladder and pour its contents into the dirt as his feet.
When the skin had been completely emptied the troop leader laughed curly and gestured at the small mud puddle. There you go blasphemer, drink up.
A chorus of nasty chuckles sounded from all about as Jrax just stood his ground.
The leader stopped laughing, his face turning from savage mirth to rage as he drew his sword and pointed it at Jrax’s throat.
“I said drink! Do it now or so help me Brox I’ll…” the large armoured man started to say but Jrax cut him off smugly.
“Or you will what? You can’t kill me or you would have already. No, Primo Haxix wants my punishment to be public.” Jrax spat. “He wouldn't let a little pissant like you take his triumph away from him, so no. I will not drink, nor will I eat unless it is something tasty and nutritious. I would rather starve than allow such ignorant fools to debase me.” he said with a smug chortle.
The now enraged troop leader drew his sword in a threatening manner and Jrax felt his knees shake slightly in fear. But he stood tall and firm, not allowing his terror to show on his face. He would show these zealous assholes what it meant to truly serve a higher purpose, even if it meant he would die anyways.
The leader lowered his weapon and sneered. “Let's see how smug you are when we take you to the chamber of repentance. We will see who gets the last laugh.” the man said angrily. “Okay, form up and move out you lazy sons of snurlg. We need to reach the Fortress of Broxix by mid afternoon.”
Jrax was shoved by one of the soldiers behind him who growled “Get moving scum.”
He shook his head sadly, the road was long and the sun was high. But he would walk with shoulders straight and head held high, for he knew his cause was just.

2023.06.05 23:35 adventurepaul What's new in e-commerce? - Week of June 5th, 2023

Hi ShopifyeCommerce - I'm Paul and I follow the e-commerce industry closely for my Shopifreaks E-commerce Newsletter. Each week I post a summary recap of this week's top stories, which I cover in depth in the newsletter. .
  1. STAT OF THE WEEK: Apple's App Store ecosystem generated $1.1 trillion in revenue in 2022. 90% was commission-free and the remainder Apple took a 15% to 30% commission. This $1.1 trillion breaks down as $910 billion in total billings and sales from the sale of physical goods and services, $109 billion from in-app advertising and $104 billion for digital goods and services. .
  2. Shopify officially launched Shop Cash, its rewards program that earns shoppers 1% cashback on purchases made using the Shop Pay payment method. After a purchase, shoppers will see their Shop Cash rewards balance appear in their Shop App. The rewards are redeemable for future purchases within Shop App, currently just for customers and stores in the U.S. Shop Cash redemption is not limited to JUST the store that a customer purchased from. The rewards are tied to the payment method (Shop Pay), not to the store itself, and can be used on any U.S. store within the Shopify ecosystem. .
  3. Last week Reddit announced a significant increase to its API pricing, which will inevitably put most 3rd party apps out of business. Other apps affected by the pricing change include Reddit is Fun (my personal favorite), Relay for Reddit, Bacon Reader, and more. Additionally, under the new API rules, developers of third-party clients won’t be able to earn money from ads or be able to show NSFW content within their apps. Their only option for monetization will be to hope that users are willing to pay a monthly subscription to their app, despite not getting access to some of Reddit's content. Moderators wrote an open letter to Reddit management, urging them to reconsider the recent API pricing change, which has been signed by thousands of users and moderators and shared across hundreds of subreddits. Many subreddits are planning to go dark on June 12th for 48 hours or longer (some permanently) to protest the policy — which means turning their subreddit private and not making its content available to the public. .
  4. Walmart announced its initiatives to reduce its use of plastic in its online business and reduce waste, plans which include replacing nearly all its plastic mailers with paper mailers, "rightsizing" its cardboard box packaging to reduce packing waste, giving customers the ability to request consolidation of multiple items into fewer boxes, and later this year giving customers the ability to opt-out of single use plastic bags used in online pick-up orders across the U.S. Amazon has offered similar shipment consolidation features for quite some time, including allowing users choose an Amazon Day, where members pick a day of the week to have all their items delivered at once. .
  5. Amazon is making a big change at its warehouses to ensure that customers receive products in good condition. The company will soon begin employing AI to check items before they are shipped to ensure that they are of good quality before leaving the facility. The AI inspection happens during the picking and packing stage. As items are selected and put into bins for orders, they go through an imaging station where they are checked for accuracy. If an item is flagged as damaged, a human worker takes a closer look. Otherwise, it moves on to the packing stage and gets shipped to the customer. The AI system is reportedly three times better than a human worker at identifying damaged items, and it never has to use the bathroom. .
  6. India's Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) has expanded to facilitate B2B transactions. The B2B transactions on ONDC are being powered by tech startups SignCatch, a SaaS payments startup, and Rapidor, a business automation platform, which have jointly enabled both the B2B buyer and seller side platforms on the network, allowing interoperability between both sides The ONDC team said it has other startups in the pipeline for its B2B expansion, including the rural fintech company Spice Money. .
  7. Shopify is facing a $130M class-action lawsuit over severance offered to recently laid off staff. The lawsuit alleges that some Shopify employees laid off at the start of May were presented with departure packages outlining hefty severance sums they were entitled to if they signed the agreement within a few days. However once workers signed the agreements, Shopify changed the terms and the employees were given substantially smaller sums. .
  8. Twitter is also being sued by former employees — this time by former janitors from its New York City offices. The suit alleges that Twitter violated city law when janitors were abruptly fired in December after the Elon Musk takeover, violating the Displaced Building Service Workers Protection Act by failing to retain the janitors after terminating the contract. The lawsuit is seeking hundreds of thousands of dollars in back wages for the former workers. .
  9. Amazon, along with four other companies selected, built a prototype for the digital euro's application in e-commerce payments, after the ECB called on front-end providers in the EU payment market to contribute ideas and build applications. Amazon is also optimistic about the project and welcomes the introduction of the digital euro. The company said, “We at Amazon believe a digital euro can be a tool to foster innovation and increase the efficiency of payments.” The European Commission is due to publish a bill in June that covers digital euro privacy safeguards and other major issues. .
  10. ShipStation released a study that reveals the factors that deter e-commerce customers. The “Exploring the Nuances in E-Commerce” guide includes a survey of over 3,000 customers and 600 online merchants across six markets, and examines the deterrents of consumer loyalty in e-commerce. 90% of Australian consumers state that a lack of suitable delivery options can influence whether they abandon their cart at the online checkout. 30% indicate they will often or always abandon their cart if their desired delivery option is not offered. However merchants seem to be ignorant to the above stats. 38% of Australian merchants believe a lack of delivery options offered at the checkout ‘never’ prevents consumers from finalizing their purchase. >
  11. Etsy announced an update to its listing process for sellers to add new listings or edit existing ones. With the new listings form, sellers can navigate sections faster and more efficiently, access the new performance tab to see performance data and reviews for the listing, and keep track of edits via a change summary in the footer. .
  12. Last week approximately 2,000 Amazon employees staged a walkout to protest Amazon corporate's decision to bring employees back into the office, and Amazon couldn't have cared less. Company spokesperson Brad Glasser told Fortune, that since the return-to-office mandate went into effect “there’s more energy, collaboration, and connections happening, and we’ve heard this from lots of employees and the businesses that surround our offices.” .
  13. A husband-and-wife team of eBay sellers put bubble wrap companies to the test to find out whether the sizing on their labels were accurate. One brand which advertised 700 feet on the label only shipped around 400 feet, while the best experience was from a 1050 feet role delivering 1020 feet. .
  14. Wix issued its second Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Report, which demonstrates the company's efforts towards building a more sustainable and inclusive business and shares new initiatives to its approach to a responsible ESG framework. Co-founder and CEO, Avishai Abrahami, said, “We're here to make a difference and, ultimately, create a better world for everyone, and with today's decisions we're solidifying our foundation – for our users, our people and our company – for the next decade of success for Wix.” .
  15. Walmart added the ability for sellers to purchase shipping labels for domestic orders on its marketplace, a feature that was previously only available on cross-border orders. Walmart also announced Automated Shipping Settings, which automatically generates transit times based on your warehouse zip code, carrier service, and customer's address. .
  16. Moneris, a Canadian provider of payment solutions for mobile, online, and brick-and-mortar businesses, partnered with Wix to power its in-house website builder. Businesses using Moneris Online will have access to Wix's product offerings including bookings, online ordering, commerce and business solutions, and security infrastructure. .
  17. Amazon plans to hire 1,000 seasonal workers across Australia in preparation for its busy mid-year sales period. The company has opened applications for temporary roles at fulfillment centers and logistics sites across Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, and Adelaide in an attempt to get ahead of the holiday season rush. .
  18. Binance is rumored to be laying off as much as 20% of its 8,000 employee workforce, according to a tweet by independent reporter Colin Wu. A company spokesperson responded with a statement saying that “this not a case of rightsizing” but a focus on “whether we have the right talent”, as the company says it'll still be seeking to fill hundreds of open roles. .
  19. Shein is hiring a U.S. head of logistics who will serve as a liaison between the company's U.S. and Singapore headquarters, according to a LinkedIn job posting, as part of its plan to bolster compliance and logistics execs ahead of its U.S. marketplace. The company is also hiring an anti-money laundering and compliance executive and a number of U.S. marketplace personnel. .
  20. commercetools, a provider of composable commerce, appointed Roxana Dobrescu as its first Chief People Officer. Dobrescu, who brings two decades of corporate human resources and talent acquisition experience to the company, will lead global personnel efforts. .
  21. Companies are pulling back on their fulfillment plans including American Eagle, who announced last year that it was building out 3PL capabilities after acquiring two logistics firms, however recently trimmed its logistics workforce, stating that the unit's services had not met expectations. Blue Apron, another example, opened two distribution centers and added 1,200 workers to assemble its boxes of fresh goods, but are now selling its logistics assets to FreshRealm, which makes meal kits for Kroger, Publix, Walmart, and other grocers. .
  22. Meesho, the Facebook-backed Indian e-commerce marketplace that offers the lowest seller commission in the country, has become the world's fastest shopping app to cross 500M downloads across Google Play and iOS, reaching the milestone in just six years. Over half of those downloads (274M) came in 2022. .
  23. Amazon is in talks with all major U.S. wireless carriers about a potential partnership to offer cheap or free cell phone service to Prime members. So far there are no details on what Amazon's wireless service would look like, including whether it would offer the same level of service or Internet speeds as you'd get going directly through Verizon, T-Mobile, or AT&T. .
  24. Twitter is hiring NBCUniversal's senior executive Joe Benarroch in a role focusing on business operations. At NBCUniversal, Benarroch was executive VP of communications, global advertising and partnerships. .
  25. Molson Hart, a reporter who famously wrote about how Amazon's business practices harm American consumers in 2019, shared on Twitter that Amazon lawyers “are trying to ruin me.” In an attempt to prove that Molson is either lying or wrong, the company has requested countless documents in discovery and requested more than two full days of depositions from the reporter, while putting him in a position to cover a mountain legal bills through 2026. .
  26. Last week I reported that Jeff Bezos is ripped now. Well it turns out that Mark Zuckerberg is too! The Meta CEO impressed his followers by completing the Murph challenge, which involves running one mile, followed by 100 pull-ups, 200 push-ups, 300 squats, and concluding with another mile run, while wearing a 20lb weighted pack, in under 40 minutes. .
  27. Amazon is winding down its celebrity voices initiative on Echo devices, which included voices from Samuel L. Jackson, Melissa McCarthy, and Shaquille O'Neal. Customers will be able to continue using the voices for a limited time and then can contact Amazon for a refund. .
  28. Juni is launching a new feature called Juni Invoices, which offers a “buy media, pay later” model that allows online retailers to choose between 30, 60, and 90 days to pay their media invoices. The platform will auto-collect and scan invoices via integration with Google and Facebook Ads and automatically match each invoice with its corresponding transaction to reduce processing time. .
  29. Google made several updates to Google Wallet, focusing on health care and travel services, with potential use cases for personal identification and airline boarding. The upgrades arrive to compete with Apple Pay, which began offering consumers a hub for their virtual payments cards along with authentication services. Now how about offering a 4.15% interest bearing savings account? .
  30. Meta is planning to cut another 1,200 jobs across California, with 528 coming from the company's Menlo Park headquarters. The company also announced that it will require office-assigned staff to return to in-person work for at least three days a week starting Sep 5th. .
  31. Klaviyo launched an integration with Amazon's Buy With Prime service, which lets Klaviyo users sync their order and customer data with their Klaviyo account. Business are able to see a single, real-time view of their customers, conversions, and revenue through Klaviyo's platform. .
  32. Plus 8 seed rounds, IPOs, and aquisitions of interest including SellerX's acquisition of fellow e-commerce aggregator Elevate Brands.

Demon King Finn Balor as a Superhero Story
DEMON KING
Finn Balor was a normal human being, until one day he discovered a strange tattoo on his chest. It was a red symbol that looked like a pair of wings and a tail. He had no idea where it came from or what it meant, but he felt a strange connection to it.
He soon realized that the tattoo was not just a decoration, but a mark of a powerful entity that lived inside him. The entity called itself the Demon, and it claimed to be an ancient spirit of chaos and destruction. It said that it had chosen Finn as its host, and that it could grant him incredible strength and speed, but at a price.
The Demon wanted to take over Finn's body and mind, and use him as a vessel to unleash its wrath on the world. It said that Finn had to surrender to it willingly, or it would force its way out. The Demon also warned Finn that if he resisted, he would suffer unbearable pain and madness.
Finn was terrified by the Demon's words, but he also felt a curiosity and a temptation. He wondered what it would be like to have such power, and what he could do with it. He also wondered if he could control the Demon, or at least coexist with it peacefully.
He decided to test the Demon's abilities, and see for himself what it could do. He went to a local wrestling gym, where he met some of his friends who were also wrestlers. He challenged them to a friendly match, and activated the Demon's power.
As soon as he did, he felt a surge of energy coursing through his veins. His muscles bulged, his eyes glowed red, and his tattoo spread all over his body. He looked like a demonic version of himself, with horns, fangs, claws, and scales.
He also felt a change in his personality. He became more aggressive, confident, and ruthless. He didn't care about the rules or the safety of his opponents. He wanted to dominate them, hurt them, and make them fear him.
He easily defeated his friends, who were shocked and scared by his transformation. They tried to reason with him, but he ignored them. He only listened to the Demon's voice in his head, which urged him to continue his rampage.
He left the gym, and headed to the streets. He saw people running away from him in panic, but he didn't care. He felt invincible and unstoppable. He felt like he was the king of the world.
He was wrong.
He soon encountered a group of criminals, who were robbing a bank. They had guns and explosives, and they were threatening to kill the hostages if anyone tried to stop them. They saw Finn approaching them, and they laughed at his appearance.
"Look at this freak! What are you supposed to be? A Halloween costume?"
They fired at him, but the bullets bounced off his skin. He laughed at their futile attempts, and charged at them.
He grabbed one of them by the neck, and lifted him off the ground. He looked into his eyes, and saw fear and pain. He smiled wickedly, and squeezed harder.
He was about to snap his neck, when he heard a scream.
"Please! Don't hurt him! He's my brother!"
It was one of the hostages, who had recognized the criminal as her sibling. She had been forced to join him in the robbery by their abusive father, who had threatened to kill them if they didn't obey him.
She ran towards Finn, and pleaded with him to spare her brother's life.
Finn felt her touch, and heard her voice. He felt a wave of emotion wash over him. He remembered who he was, and what he had done. He realized that he had gone too far.
He dropped the criminal, who gasped for air. He turned around, and looked at the hostage's face. He saw fear and gratitude in her eyes.
He also saw blood on her shirt.
He looked down, and saw that she had been shot in the chest by one of the other criminals when she ran towards him. She was bleeding profusely.
He gasped in horror.
"What have I done?"
He let go of her, and ran to her side. He tried to stop the bleeding with his hands.
"I'm sorry... I'm so sorry..."
He felt the Demon's power fading away from him. His body returned to normal. His tattoo disappeared.
He also felt the Demon's anger and disappointment in him.
"You fool... You weakling... You traitor..."
The Demon's voice echoed in his mind.
"You had everything... You had me... And you threw it all away... For her..."
The Demon spat out one last word before leaving him alone.
"Coward..."
Finn sobbed uncontrollably.
He had lost everything.
He had lost himself.
But he also gained something.
He gained a new purpose.
He realized that he had been given a gift, not a curse. He realized that he could use the Demon's power for good, not evil. He realized that he could be a hero, not a villain.
He decided to make a vow.
He vowed to never let the Demon take over him again. He vowed to only use the Demon's power when he needed to protect the innocent and fight the wicked. He vowed to be the master of the Demon, not its slave.
He vowed to be the Demon King.
DEMON KING II
Finn Balor had become the Demon King, a superhero who used the power of the Demon to fight crime and injustice. He had learned to control the Demon's influence, and only unleashed it when he needed to. He had also made a secret identity for himself, as a journalist who worked for a local newspaper.
He had also found love. He had saved the life of the hostage who was shot in the chest by the criminals, and they had fallen in love. Her name was Leah, and she was a nurse who worked at a nearby hospital. She knew about his secret, and supported him in his mission.
They were happy together, but they also faced many challenges. They had to deal with the Demon's resentment and jealousy, which sometimes tried to sabotage their relationship. They also had to deal with the enemies that Finn had made as the Demon King, who wanted to destroy him and everything he cared about.
One of these enemies was a mysterious figure known as the Dark Lord. He was a powerful and evil mastermind who controlled a vast criminal empire. He had a personal vendetta against Finn, because he was the one who had given him the Demon's mark in the first place.
The Dark Lord had been searching for the Demon for centuries, hoping to harness its power for his own nefarious purposes. He had experimented on countless people, trying to implant them with the Demon's essence. But none of them could survive the process, or resist the Demon's will.
He had finally found Finn, who was the perfect host for the Demon. He had kidnapped him and tortured him, trying to break his spirit and make him submit to him. He had also branded him with the Demon's mark, hoping to bind him to his will.
But he had underestimated Finn's strength and courage. Finn had managed to escape from his clutches, and vowed to stop him from harming anyone else. He had also discovered that he could use the Demon's power against him, as it gave him an edge over his enemies.
The Dark Lord was furious and obsessed with Finn. He wanted to capture him again, and make him his slave. He wanted to take away everything he loved, and make him suffer. He wanted to make him pay for his defiance.
He devised a plan to lure Finn into a trap. He sent one of his agents to infiltrate Leah's hospital, and plant a bomb in it. He then contacted Finn anonymously, and told him that he had one hour to save Leah and everyone else in the hospital, or they would all die.
He also told him that he had to come alone, or he would detonate the bomb immediately. He said that he wanted to face him one-on-one, and settle their score once and for all.
Finn was shocked and enraged by the Dark Lord's message. He knew that it was a trap, but he also knew that he couldn't ignore it. He loved Leah more than anything in the world, and he couldn't let her die.
He decided to go to the hospital, and try to find and disarm the bomb. He also decided to activate the Demon's power, and prepare for a fight.
He kissed Leah goodbye, and told her that he loved her. He also told her that he would be back soon.
He hoped that he was telling the truth. ``` Finn Balor arrived at the hospital, and looked for the bomb. He used his enhanced senses to scan the building, and detected a faint signal coming from the basement. He followed it, and found a metal suitcase hidden behind some boxes.
He opened it, and saw a digital timer counting down from 10 minutes. He also saw a complex wiring system connected to a large explosive device. He realized that he had no idea how to disarm it.
He cursed under his breath, and tried to think of a solution. He wondered if he could use the Demon's power to destroy the bomb, but he feared that it would cause a bigger explosion. He wondered if he could call for help, but he remembered that the Dark Lord had threatened to blow up the bomb if he did.
He decided to try to cut the wires, and hope for the best. He took out his pocket knife, and looked for the right wire to cut. He had seen some movies where they always cut the red wire, but he wasn't sure if that was true.
He decided to take a chance, and cut the red wire.
He was wrong.
The timer sped up, and started counting down from 5 seconds.
He panicked, and dropped the knife. He grabbed the suitcase, and ran towards the exit. He hoped that he could get out of the building before it exploded.
He was wrong.
The bomb went off, and sent a shockwave through the basement. The floor collapsed, and Finn fell into a dark abyss.
He screamed, and activated the Demon's power. He hoped that it would protect him from the blast.
He was right.
The Demon's power shielded him from the fire and debris. He felt a surge of energy coursing through his veins. His muscles bulged, his eyes glowed red, and his tattoo spread all over his body. He looked like a demonic version of himself, with horns, fangs, claws, and scales.
He also felt a change in his personality. He became more aggressive, confident, and ruthless. He didn't care about anything else but survival. He wanted to get out of there, and find the Dark Lord. He wanted to make him pay for what he had done.
He used his claws to dig his way out of the rubble. He saw a hole in the ceiling, and jumped through it. He landed on the ground floor of the hospital, where he saw chaos and destruction.
He saw people running away from him in panic, but he didn't care. He felt invincible and unstoppable. He felt like he was the king of the world.
He was wrong.
He soon encountered a group of superheroes, who had arrived at the scene to help the victims and stop the culprit. They had heard about the bomb threat, and had rushed to the hospital as fast as they could.
They saw Finn emerging from the hole in the ceiling, and they recognized him as the Demon King. They knew that he was a hero who used his power for good, but they also knew that he was unstable and dangerous when he lost control.
They decided to try to calm him down, and talk to him.
"Hey! Finn! It's us! Your friends!"
They shouted at him, hoping to get his attention.
Finn heard their voices, but he didn't recognize them. He only saw enemies who wanted to stop him from reaching his goal. He ignored them, and continued walking towards the exit.
They tried to block his way, but he pushed them aside with ease. They tried to restrain him with their powers, but he broke free with force. They tried to reason with him with their words, but he didn't listen to them.
He only listened to the Demon's voice in his head, which urged him to continue his rampage.
"Kill them... Kill them all... They are nothing... You are everything..."
The Demon's voice echoed in his mind.
Finn obeyed.
"'
Finn Balor had become a monster. He had lost control of the Demon's power, and had attacked everyone who stood in his way. He had fought the superheroes who tried to stop him, and had injured many of them. He had also caused a lot of collateral damage to the hospital and the surrounding area.
He had also lost Leah. She had survived the bomb blast, thanks to the quick intervention of one of the superheroes. She had been taken to another hospital, where she was treated for her wounds. She had also learned about what Finn had done, and she was heartbroken.
She couldn't believe that the man she loved had turned into a violent and ruthless killer. She couldn't understand what had happened to him, or why he had changed so much. She couldn't forgive him for what he had done, or trust him again.
She decided to end their relationship, and cut off all contact with him. She also decided to move away from the city, and start a new life somewhere else.
She hoped that she could forget him.
She was wrong.
Finn eventually regained his senses, and realized what he had done. He was horrified and ashamed by his actions. He remembered who he was, and what he had lost. He realized that he had gone too far.
He tried to find Leah, and apologize to her. He hoped that she would still love him, and give him another chance. He hoped that they could be happy together again.
He was wrong.
He learned that Leah had left him, and moved away. He also learned that she hated him, and wanted nothing to do with him. He also learned that she blamed him for everything that had happened, and wished that he would die.
He was devastated.
He tried to contact her, and beg for her forgiveness. He tried to explain what had happened, and how he felt. He tried to tell her that he still loved her, and that he needed her.
He was wrong.
She ignored his calls, messages, and letters. She blocked his number, email, and social media accounts. She refused to talk to him, or listen to him. She rejected his pleas, and his love.
She wanted him to leave her alone.
He was crushed.
He decided to give up on Leah, and focus on his mission as the Demon King. He decided to use the Demon's power for good again, and fight the Dark Lord and his minions. He decided to redeem himself for his sins, and make the world a better place.
He was wrong.
He found out that the Dark Lord had escaped from his hideout, and gone into hiding. He also found out that he had hired a team of assassins to kill him. He also found out that he had a new plan to unleash a deadly virus on the city.
He was furious.
He decided to hunt down the Dark Lord, and stop him once and for all. He decided to use the Demon's power to its full extent, and show no mercy to his enemies. He decided to end this war, and make the Dark Lord pay for what he had done.
He was wrong.
He fell into another trap set by the Dark Lord. He was ambushed by the assassins, who attacked him with advanced weapons and tactics. He was outnumbered and outmatched by them. He was wounded and weakened by them.
He was captured by them.
They took him to a secret location, where they tortured him mercilessly. They beat him up, burned him with fire, electrocuted him with wires, injected him with poison, cut him with blades, broke his bones with hammers, ripped out his nails with pliers...
They did everything they could think of to make him suffer.
They also mocked him for being a failure as a hero and a lover. They told him how Leah hated him and wished he was dead. They told him how she had moved on with her life and found someone else. They told him how she was happy without him.
They lied to him.
They wanted to break his spirit and make him submit to them. They wanted to make him beg for death or mercy. They wanted to make him their slave.
They were wrong.
Finn endured their torture with gritted teeth and clenched fists. He refused to give in or give up. He resisted their pain and their lies. He fought back with his will and his pride.
He also fought back with the Demon's power.
He felt the Demon's presence in his mind again, but this time it was different. It wasn't angry or jealous or resentful of him anymore. It wasn't trying to take over him or destroy him anymore.
It was trying to help him and save him.
It said that it had seen his suffering and his courage, and that it had changed its mind about him. It said that it had realized that he was a worthy host and a worthy partner. It said that it had decided to join forces with him, and fight against their common enemy.
It said that it was sorry for what it had done, and that it wanted to make amends.
It said that it was ready to be his ally and his friend.
It offered him its power and its support, and asked him to accept it.
Finn was surprised and touched by the Demon's words. He felt a new connection and a new respect for it. He felt a new hope and a new strength in him.
He decided to accept the Demon's offer, and trust it.
He said yes.
He felt the Demon's power flowing through him, healing his wounds and restoring his energy. He felt the Demon's voice guiding him, telling him what to do and how to do it. He felt the Demon's spirit joining him, becoming one with him.
He became the Demon King again, but this time he was different. He was stronger, faster, smarter, and more powerful than ever before. He was also more balanced, calm, and focused than ever before.
He was ready to escape from his captors, and confront the Dark Lord.
He was ready to end this story.
```
Finn Balor escaped from the torture chamber, and fought his way out of the secret base. He used the Demon's power to defeat the assassins and the guards, and to destroy the weapons and the equipment. He also used the Demon's power to track down the Dark Lord, and to find his location.
He followed his trail to an abandoned warehouse, where he saw a large truck parked outside. He sensed that the truck was carrying the deadly virus that the Dark Lord had planned to unleash on the city. He also sensed that the Dark Lord was inside the warehouse, waiting for him.
He decided to confront him, and stop him once and for all. He decided to use the Demon's power to its full extent, and show no mercy to him. He decided to end this war, and make him pay for what he had done.
He entered the warehouse, and saw the Dark Lord standing in front of a large screen. He saw that he was wearing a black cloak and a metal mask, hiding his face and his identity. He also saw that he had a remote control in his hand, ready to activate the virus.
He greeted Finn with a cold and sinister voice.
"Welcome, Finn Balor. Welcome to your doom."
He pressed a button on the remote control, and activated the screen. He showed Finn a live feed of Leah's hospital room, where she was lying on a bed. She looked pale and weak, but she was still alive.
He smiled wickedly behind his mask.
"Say hello to your girlfriend, Finn. Or should I say, goodbye?"
He revealed his plan to Finn. He said that he had planted another bomb in Leah's hospital room, and that he had set it to explode in 10 minutes. He said that he had also infected her with the virus, and that she was dying slowly and painfully.
He said that he wanted Finn to watch her die, and to suffer as much as he did. He said that he wanted him to feel helpless and hopeless, and to lose everything he cared about. He said that he wanted him to know how it felt to be betrayed by someone he loved.
He said that he was the one who had given Leah the virus.
He said that he was Leah's father.
He took off his mask, and revealed his face.
Finn gasped in shock.
He recognized him as Leah's father, who had abused her and her brother for years. He recognized him as the man who had forced them to join him in his criminal activities. He recognized him as the man who had tried to kill them when they refused.
He also recognized him as the man who had kidnapped him and tortured him. He recognized him as the man who had branded him with the Demon's mark. He recognized him as the man who had ruined his life.
He was the Dark Lord.
He laughed maniacally at Finn's reaction.
"Surprised? You shouldn't be. I've been watching you for a long time, Finn. Ever since you escaped from me, and became the Demon King. Ever since you met my daughter, and fell in love with her."
He explained his motives to Finn. He said that he hated Finn for being stronger than him, and for resisting his control. He said that he hated Finn for being happier than him, and for finding love with his daughter. He said that he hated Finn for being better than him, and for being a hero.
He said that he wanted to destroy Finn's happiness, and make him suffer. He said that he wanted to take away his power, and make him weak. He said that he wanted to take away his love, and make him lonely.
He said that he wanted to take away his life, and make him dead.
He pointed a gun at Finn's head.
"Goodbye, Finn Balor. Goodbye, Demon King."
He pulled the trigger.
He missed.
Finn dodged the bullet at the last second, thanks to the Demon's power. He reacted quickly, and charged at the Dark Lord. He tackled him to the ground, and punched him in the face.
He fought with all his strength and all his rage. He used his fists and his claws to inflict pain on his enemy. He used his teeth and his horns to draw blood from his enemy. He used his voice and his words to insult his enemy.
He wanted to kill him.
But he didn't.
He stopped himself at the last moment, thanks to Leah's love. He remembered her face and her voice in his mind. He remembered her kindness and her compassion in his heart. He remembered her words and her wishes in his soul.
He wanted to honor her.
He decided to spare the Dark Lord's life, and let him face justice. He decided to use the Demon's power for good again, and save the city. He decided to redeem himself for his sins, and make the world a better place.
He decided to be a hero.
He got up from the ground, and grabbed the remote control from the Dark Lord's hand. He pressed a button on it, and deactivated the bomb in Leah's hospital room. He also pressed another button on it, and deactivated the virus in the truck.
He saved Leah's life, and the city's life.
He smiled with relief and joy.
He also felt the Demon's presence in his mind again, but this time it was different. It wasn't angry or jealous or resentful of him anymore. It wasn't trying to take over him or destroy him anymore.
It was trying to help him and save him.
It said that it was proud of him and his choice. It said that it had realized that he was a true hero and a true king. It said that it had decided to stay with him, and fight with him.
It said that it was happy for him and his love.
It said that it was ready to be his ally and his friend.
It offered him its power and its support, and asked him to accept it.
Finn was surprised and touched by the Demon's words. He felt a new connection and a new respect for it. He felt a new hope and a new strength in him.
He decided to accept the Demon's offer, and trust it.
He said yes.
He felt the Demon's power flowing through him, healing his wounds and restoring his energy. He felt the Demon's voice guiding him, telling him what to do and how to do it. He felt the Demon's spirit joining him, becoming one with him.
He became the Demon King again, but this time he was different. He was stronger, faster, smarter, and more powerful than ever before. He was also more balanced, calm, and focused than ever before.
He was ready to leave the warehouse, and reunite with Leah.
He was ready to end this story.
But he also wanted to start a new one.
A new story of love and happiness.
A new story of peace and justice.
A new story of Finn Balor and Leah.
A new story of the Demon King. ```
2023.06.05 22:41 KyleKKent Out of Cruel Space, Part 704
First
Capes and Conundrums
A blast of lightning slams into the barrier between them and the villain starts laughing. “Yes Hades yes! Flee before the power of Zeus! Hah hahaha!!!”
“Love his sense of style, hate the aggression.” One of the tourists who had gotten into the tests’ first run notes. She got all the way to the end and had loved every second of it. It turns out that a Dzedin Huntsmistress revisiting one of her old favourites was a shoe in for the tests.
“I know right? Have you seen the muscles on him?” One of the local level four girls says with a bit of a giggle as she peaks out of cover. She and the huntress are serving as distraction as a third girl is going around to unplug the delusional villain.
“I have got to get my husband one of those. What’s it called? A toga?” The Huntress notes before she dashes from one bit of cover to another to draw more attention.
“Flee! Flee! Ahaha!” Maxie Zeus calls out before there’s a sudden fizzle to his lightning thrower. “What?! What trechery is this!? Have the cyclopses been attacked!?”
There’s a shout of pain and shock as the lightning thrower is abruptly plugged back in and Maxie gets a face full of lightning. The actor playing the part gives an extra little turn so he falls on his side and not his face when he collapses.
“Alright! Tie him up... with cuffs not with silk, and let’s see if we can get information out of him when he ‘wakes’.” The Huntress says as she stands up and takes command of the situation.
“On it!” Her youngest daughter says and she quickly has ‘Maxie Zeus’ strung up and hanging upside down from the ceiling.
“Off the goods.” The ‘unconscious criminal’ mutters and the Huntsmistress’ daughter snatches back her hand.
“A little more respectful Migalla. He’s cute, but he’s on the clock dearie.” The Huntmisstress chides.
“Also remember that we’re being recorded for a highlights of the day to be played in public. Don’t want to be caught touching a man inappropriately.” The Local Girl reminds her and the young Dzedin winces a bit.
“Calm down, not mad. Back in character in three... two... one...” The Undaunted that’s been tied up says before seemingly jerking awake. “What!? What!? Hades how dare...”
The criminal’s rant is cut of when a black chitinous hand grabs the top of his head.
“Zeus, we don’t have time for this. What have you done with Firefly?” She demands and ‘Maxie’ scowls at her.
“Prometheus?! The traitorous titan! The wretched thief! He thought to escape his punishment! But he is back where he belongs! With his guts soon to be devoured by the eagle as he deserves!” Maxie Zeus declares and gets a punch to the gut by Migalla.
“You’re a speedbag Zeus, where did you tie him down?”
“Where he deserves! Where he escaped from! Mount Caucasus!” Zeus declares and there’s a quick check as The Huntmisstress checks the ‘map’ of the city. It’s modified and shows different names for places. For instance, the divide between the large ash field that indicates it as a pair of ash seas.
“Caucasus is between two seas. Which means he’s in this part of the city. Likely on a roof. We need to go before whatever twisted thing he’s constructed eats firefly alive.” She states and after calling in Zeus as contained they all rush off and the feed cuts.
“Well that was fun.” ‘Maxie’ notes as he easily slips out of the bonds and rubs his stomach. “She’s got a good cross for a little thing. I didn’t even feel any Axiom in that.”
“Uh... are we too late?” Someone asks and he turns to see another tourist.
“Yes and no, give me a minute to reset the scene please. The last people here just left. You might have even seen them on their way out.”
“Oh uhm...”
“Just a minute or two please.” ‘Maxie’ says as he quickly starts rushing around.
•וווווווווווווווווווווווווווווווווו
“Mom look!” Migalla says as they land on a roof. Three roofs down is a plume of fire reaching the sky as someone screams in fury.
“Well, we found Firefly.” Her mother notes and they quickly move. The madman is tied to an alter with chains and has just enough movement to try and ward off a mechanical eagle that’s thoroughly unbothered by the fire but still slowly advancing.
“Is it wrong that this is kinda hot?” Migalla says and her mother slowly turns to her? “What?”
“That pun was awful.” She says. “Now come on, we don’t want to lose pace with the locals do we?”
First things first. The fire needs to be stopped shortly followed by the bird. Preferably both at once. There’s a bit of putting their heads together and a plan is hashed out. Local girl, her name is Echosong, is going to go after the robotic bird, Migalla takes care of the flamethrower and Mother is going to help whoever needs it but would be very happy to see them both do well alone.
An invisible trio of night black hands grab the flame thrower and pull it out of firefly’s grip even as something slams into the mechanical eagle. Both dangerous machines are surprisingly delicate and fall apart after just a few moments of attention and a larger, much more dangerous black figure appears over Firefly, applauding with all four hands.
“Oh very well done children! This is turning out to be such good fun.” The Huntsmistress says happily. “Now, anything you’d like to tell us little man? For a level four challenge this seems a little lacking...”
“Boss Battle!” Firefly exclaims before the alter he’s on suddenly collapses and he’s launched into the air on his jetpack. Little tubes pop out of his bracers and reveal that he has two more flamethrowers on him. “Ahahahaha!”
“Love it!” The Huntsmistress exclaims as she vanishes and the two younger participants dive for cover from the first sweep of the flames. “I’ll be waiting in the wings in case you girls need help! Do momma proud!”
“We don’t even know her!”
“Migalla, play nice with your new friend.” The Huntsmistress chastises her daughter.
“Sorry.” Echosong says.
“Wait why are you apologizing?” Migalla asks.
“HELLO!? Forget someone?!” Firefly interrupts as he launches fireballs at their hiding places. Bot hof them abandon the heat filled shelters they stuck behind. “Oh no! No place to hide!”
With that there’s a layer of burning napalm over every obvious hiding place as the pyromaniacle madman laughs. “That’s right Bat! Tonight you BURN!”
“Think you can hide yourself from the glory that is the god of gods!? Think again!” A new Maxie Zeus cosplayer suddenly announces and a spear wreathed in enough electricity to make it look like a lightning bolt streaks down to where The Huntsmistress is standing invisibly. The electrical attack is caught in one hand, passed to another, a third points right at him even as she fades into view and she blows a kiss with her fourth even as she lets fly with the lightning spear.
It crashes into the crane the delusional madman is standing on and it rocks, but the man merely reaches into his modified golf bag and pulls out another. “I fear not the strength of the skies! For it is mine!”
“Oh... oh this is getting good. You girls play nice with the lightbug. I’ve got a bug zapper to face.” The Huntsmistress says before she hops to the side to avoid another lightning spear and then leaps towards him. His retaliatory attack is dodged when she manifests an Axiom shield in midair and bounces off it to adjust her momentum.
•וווווווווווווווווווווווווווווווווו
“So how’s it going out there?” Robin asks as he looks over an Overwatch’s shoulder. He was tending to the only level four series of missions and gets a bit of an elbow to the side for getting too close.
“Pretty good so far. The equipment is just effective enough to feel dangerous, but is ninety percent Axiom illusion. A low power taser has more energy then those lightning spears our Zeus player is tossing around and there’s maybe enough heat to light a cigarette from our Firefly boy.” Overwatch says.
“So what’s the story?”
“No real story, just a lot of crazy as a pair of elemental idiots are up to shenanigans. Not everything is a big mystery, sometimes it’s just a brawl. When you get the crocodile in it’s lair, it’s just a mosh pit at that point.” Overwatch states as Firefly starts shooting fireballs rapid fire style and failing to hit anything but the roof, sometimes he even misses the roof.
Meanwhile Maxie Zeus is trying to ward off the Huntsmistress by swinging his lighting spear at her like a baseball bat. “Well it’s a flashy show, of that I cannot deny. But do you think they’ve caught onto the hints?”
“They need to stop playing around with the actors and pin them so they can start going through their pockets for more than just a feel.” Overwatch remarks.
“I think they may be too polite for that. Big momma there already scolded her daughter for getting handsy, so they might not actually go through the pockets.” Robin notes.
“A good point. Now shut up for a second.” Overwatch says before leaning forward and activated the microphone. “Gents, I need you to draw attention to the clues in your pockets for the next part of the plan. I think they may be too polite to go through them.”
“Crash and Burn!” Firefly calls out to signify he got the message.
“All shall bow before the God of Gods!” Maxie sends out his confirmation code.
“Nice.” Robin notes before checking his pocket as his communicator goes off. “Hmm... okay.”
“I see they approved my suggestion.”
“Yes. Yes they did.” Robin notes. “Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to get into my candycorn best.”
Overwatch just snorts in amusement at that description of a Deathstroke outfit.
•וווווווווווווווווווווווווווווווווו
“Hah! Hah ha!” Maxie Zeus says fumbling at something in his pocket. “Nearly lost that. Ares is no fool, however his plan eludes me.”
“Oh?” The Huntsmistress asks in an interested tone before she rushes forward and he takes a swing only for it to go right through an illusion and he’s grabbed by the shoulders and there’s a fist in the small of his back stopping him from struggling as another goes through his pocket.
“Oh naughty naughty little goddy. You’ve been scheming!”
“Little Goddy? No! You can’t be! The Primordial Nyx! Mistress of the Night!”
“Nyx? Oh I like that! You’re adorable, and overacting adorably as well. I can see how hard it is for you not to laugh.” She says pocketing the clue before putting a hand over his face. “Laugh away, I won’t let my daughter and her new friend hear it. You can break character.
It takes him about ten seconds to get it all out before nodding appreciatively even as his hands are expertly ‘bound’ to confirm the win. “Good job. How are you liking this so far?”
“Oh this is fun, adorable and I am GOING to be buying a copy of the files. I can see the cameras and I want a cut for the family to laugh over.” She says.
“Twenty credits. Give me a moment to dig out the communicator and I’ll give you the number.” ‘Maxie’ says as he quickly gets out of the binders and pulls out his device and then taps it against hers.
“Thank you kindly.” She says before she turns her head to wash as Echosong tackles into Firefly from above and Migalla hefts his arms apart with her upper arms and begins going through his pocket with her lower ones even as her tail anchors her to the roof. “Hey! That’s wonderful! It can be so hard to get the children used to using all their limbs. A tragic side effect to growing up surrounded by so many races with less limbs. You learn so much by playing with others and too many girls just consider all the limbs on one side to equate just one arm and one leg. Nevermind the mighty tail we have.”
“To be fair you’re also down eyes.”
“The whole top of the head does that job little godling.” She informs him and he shrugs.
“Maybe it does, maybe it doesn’t. Either way, onto the next part.”
“Yes, it is fun to know this was a distraction.”
“What do you think is next?” ‘Maxie’ asks even as the girls down below confirm the win by cuffing Firefly.
“Oh I’ll keep that to myself.” She says.
“I know what it is, I’m confirming if you know or not.”
“Then what is it?”
“I’m not going to tell that!”
“Well... you have fun with that.” She says patting him on the top of the head and leaping away to join her daughter and the local friend she had made. Meanwhile the ‘Maxie’ cosplayer is left wondering in just what way he’s being spoken down to.
He gives up and just exhales for a bit before snickering a bit. He’d been told that Dzedin women had an interesting sense of humour. But it was another thing entirely to run into it.
After the three leave for the next part of their little journy he uses an Axiom marking on his sheathe to summon back all the lightning spears to it. It was a big flashy toy, but in the end licking a AA battery might cause more of a shock.
He has ten minutes before the next group shows up, two Feli, a local Sonir and an Apuk that was outright treating Firefly’s flamethrower like a water gun. He draws back his first spear, and lets out a cry.
“The Mighty Zeus cannot be defeated!”
Federal Reserve Alert! Today a CLOSED meeting of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve held as it was determined that the public interest did not require opening the meeting. Matter Considered: Review & determination of the advance and discount rates to be charged by the liquidity fairy.
https://www.federalreserve.gov/aboutthefed/boardmeetings/20230605closed.htm
Background on discount rates and what they could be talking about:
Deposits at commercial banks has stabilized slightly, maybe?
https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/DPSACBW027SBOG
A little over a year ago (4/13/2022) the high was hit at $18,158.3536 billion
Date Deposits, All Commercial Banks (billions) Down from all time high (billions)
4/13/2022 $18,158 0
2/22/2023 (Run picks up speed) $17,690 -$468 billion
5/17/2023 $17,152 -$1006 billion
5/24/2023 $17,238 -$920 billion
All this money pulled from commercial banks as M2 (U.S. money stock--currency and coins held by the non-bank public, checkable deposits, and travelers' checks, plus savings deposits, small time deposits under 100k, and shares in retail money market funds) is decreasing:
A little less than a year ago (July 2022) the M2 high was hit at $21,703 billion
\Bank run in commercial banks picked up in February 2023.)
  1. M1 consists of (1) currency outside the U.S. Treasury, Federal Reserve Banks, and the vaults of depository institutions; (2) demand deposits at commercial banks (excluding those amounts held by depository institutions, the U.S. government, and foreign banks and official institutions) less cash items in the process of collection and Federal Reserve float; and (3) other liquid deposits, consisting of other checkable deposits (or OCDs, which comprise negotiable order of withdrawal, or NOW, and automatic transfer service, or ATS, accounts at depository institutions, share draft accounts at credit unions, and demand deposits at thrift institutions) and savings deposits (including money market deposit accounts). Seasonally adjusted M1 is constructed by summing currency, demand deposits, and other liquid deposits, each seasonally adjusted separately.
  2. M2 consists of M1 plus (1) small-denomination time deposits (time deposits in amounts of less than $100,000) less individual retirement account (IRA) and Keogh balances at depository institutions; and (2) balances in retail money market funds (MMFs) less IRA and Keogh balances at MMFs. Seasonally adjusted M2 is constructed by summing small-denomination time deposits and retail MMFs, each seasonally adjusted separately, and adding the result to seasonally adjusted M1.
  3. Currency in circulation consists of Federal Reserve notes and coin outside the U.S. Treasury and Federal Reserve Banks.
  4. Reserve balances are balances held by depository institutions in master accounts and excess balance accounts at Federal Reserve Banks.
  5. Monetary base equals currency in circulation plus reserve balances.
  6. Total reserves equal reserve balances plus, before April 2020, vault cash used to satisfy reserve requirements.
  7. Total borrowings in millions of dollars from the Federal Reserve are borrowings from the discount window's primary, secondary, and seasonal credit programs and other borrowings from emergency lending facilities. For borrowings included, see "Loans" in table 1 of the H.4.1 statistical release.
  8. Nonborrowed reserves equal total reserves less total borrowings from the Federal Reserve.
However, borrowing from the liquidity fairy is spiraling to make up for it shrinking M2 and dwindling deposits:
Overview:
Federal Reserve lending to depository institutions (the “discount window”) plays an important role in supporting the liquidity and stability of the banking system and the effective implementation of monetary policy.
By providing ready access to funding, the discount window helps depository institutions manage their liquidity risks efficiently and avoid actions that have negative consequences for their customers, such as withdrawing credit during times of market stress. Thus, the discount window supports the smooth flow of credit to households and businesses. Providing liquidity in this way is one of the original purposes of the Federal Reserve System and other central banks around the world.
The "Primary Credit" program is the principal safety valve for ensuring adequate liquidity in the banking system. Primary credit is priced relative to the FOMC’s target range for the federal funds rate and is normally granted on a “no-questions-asked,” minimally administered basis. There are no restrictions on borrowers’ use of primary credit.
https://www.frbdiscountwindow.org/Pages/General-Information/Primary-and-Secondary-Lending-Programs.aspx
Examples of common borrowing situations:
  • Tight money markets or undue market volatility
  • Preventing an overnight overdraft
  • Meeting a need for funding, including a short-term liquidity demand that may arise from unexpected deposit withdrawals or a spike in loan demand
The introduction of the primary credit program in 2003 marked a fundamental shift - from administration to pricing - in the Federal Reserve's approach to discount window lending. Notably, eligible depository institutions may obtain primary credit without exhausting or even seeking funds from alternative sources. Minimal administration of and restrictions on the use of primary credit makes it a reliable funding source. Being prepared to borrow primary credit enhances an institution's liquidity.
Notice how use of the Discount Window has PLUMMETED as BTFP has come in to play? BTFP offers slightly lower interest and longer terms. I wonder how many folks paid back their Discount Window loans with BTFP money?
"Other credit extensions" includes loans that were extended to depository institutions established by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC). The Federal Reserve Banks' loans to these depository institutions are secured by collateral and the FDIC provides repayment guarantees.
For example, $114 billion in face value Agency Mortgage Backed Securities, Collateralized Mortgage Obligations, and Commercial Mortgage Backed Securities about to be liquidated 'gradual and orderly' with the 'aim to minimize the potential for any adverse impact on market functioning' by BlackRock.
How I understand this works:
  • The FDIC created temporary banks to support the operations of the ones they have taken over.
  • The FDIC did not have the money to operate these banks.
  • The Fed is providing that in the form of a loan via "Other credit extensions".
  • The FDIC is going to sell the taken over banks assets.
  • Whatever the difference between the sale of the assets and the ultimate loan number is, will be the amount split up amongst all the remaining banks and applied as a special fee to make the Fed 'whole'.
  • It can be argued the consumer will ultimately end up paying for this as banks look to pass this cost on in some way.
There has been an update on this piece recently:
Whatever the difference between the sale of the assets and the ultimate loan number is, will be the amount split up amongst all the remaining banks and applied as a special fee to make the Fed 'whole'.
FDIC Board of Directors Issues a Proposed Rule on Special Assessment Pursuant to Systemic Risk Determination of approximately $15.8 billion. It is estimated that a total of 113 banking organizations would be subject to the special assessment.
What does all this borrowing look like for the banks? They sure as heck aren't getting funding from deposits...:
https://www.reddit.com/Superstonk/comments/13eme4d/bank_funding_during_the_current_monetary_policy/
Over the few weeks prior to the FDIC receivership announcements on March 10 and 12, the banking sector lost another approximately $450 billion. Throughout, the banking sector has offset the reduction in deposit funding with an increase in other forms of borrowing which has increased by $800 billion since the start of the tightening.
The right panel of the chart below summarizes the cumulative change in deposit funding by bank size category since the start of the tightening cycle through early March 2023 and then through the end of March. Until early March 2023, the decline in deposit funding lined up with bank size, consistent with the concentration of deposits in larger banks. Small banks lost no deposit funding prior to the events of late March. In terms of percentage decline, the outflows were roughly equal for regional, super-regional, and large banks at around 4 percent of total deposit funding:
https://preview.redd.it/xjs4bki7794b1.png?width=572&format=png&auto=webp&s=c2a50d9b8f95c05ee28120e7dcba6d8875da7a6a
The blue bar in the left panel above shows that the pattern changes following the run on SVB. The additional outflow is entirely concentrated in the segment of super-regional banks. In fact, most other size categories experience deposit inflows.
The right panel illustrates that outflows at super-regionals begin immediately after the failure of SVB and are mirrored by deposit inflows at large banks in the second week of March 2022.
Further, while deposit funding remains at a lower level throughout March for super-regional banks, the initially large inflows mostly reverse by the end of March. Notably, banks with less than $100 billion in assets were relatively unaffected.
However, during the most acute phase of banking stress in mid-March, other borrowings exceeded reductions in deposit balances, suggesting significant and widespread demand for precautionary liquidity. A substantial amount of liquidity was provided by the private markets, likely via the FHLB system, but primary credit and the Bank Term Funding Program (both summarized as Federal Reserve credit) were equally important.
https://preview.redd.it/rodct489794b1.png?width=557&format=png&auto=webp&s=06f249a663690ad118e69f7dd6d1831eb236ecf7
  • Large banks increased borrowing the most, which is in line with deposit outflows being strongest for larger banks before March 2023.
  • During March 2023, both super-regional and large banks increase their borrowings, with most increases being centered in the super-regional banks that faced the largest deposit outflows.
  • Note, however, that not all size categories face deposit outflows but that all except the small banks increase their other borrowings.
  • This pattern suggests demand for precautionary liquidity buffers across the banking system, not just among the most affected institutions:
Banks have been replacing deposit outflows with the borrowing we have covered above.
Report: U.S. regulators will potentially raise capital requirements for large banks by about 20%.
https://www.marketwatch.com/articles/goldman-citi-bank-stocks-capital-7f2ffd5e
U.S. regulators will potentially raise capital requirements for large banks by about 20%.Regulators are preparing to increase a banks capital requirements, with the exact amount determined by each specific financial institution’s business activities, according to people familiar with the matter, according to the report.The changes are expected to be proposed as soon as this month, with the largest banks expected to face the biggest increases in capital requirements.The FDIC told Barron’s it was unable to offer comment on the report. Barron’s also reached out to the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System for confirmation and comment on the report.Bank stocks were little changed in early trading Monday. JPMorgan Chase (ticker: JPM) and Wells Fargo (WFC) shares were up 0.2%, while Goldman Sachs (GS) and Bank of America (BAC) gained less than 0.1%. Citigroup (C) shares declined 0.3% while Morgan Stanley (MS) stock was down less than 0.1%.These rules would be part of regulators’ efforts to place stronger regulations on the banking sector following the collapse of several smaller banks over the last few months.Michael Barr, vice chair for supervision of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, has been pushing for tighter banking regulations since before the collapse of Silicon Valley Bank, and has continued to do so since.“My review of Silicon Valley Bank’s (SVB) failure demonstrates that there are weaknesses in regulation and supervision that must be addressed, and I am committed to doing so,” Barr said in remarks to the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs in May.“We need to evaluate whether our capital requirements appropriately measure the ability of banks to absorb losses,” he added.
What could this mean?
  • Reduced Lending: Banks with higher capital requirements may reduce their lending to maintain compliance, as they need to hold a greater amount of capital relative to their loans.
    • This could potentially restrict credit for businesses and individuals, possibly slowing economic growth.
  • Higher Borrowing Costs: To compensate for holding more capital, banks might raise their lending rates, making borrowing more expensive for consumers and businesses.
  • Quick Implementation Challenges: A sudden increase in capital requirements could be disruptive, forcing banks to quickly adjust their business models, strategies, and balance sheets to comply.
  • Capital Availability: As we have seen with withdrawals from commercial banks, in this financial environment, banks may struggle to raise the necessary capital quickly.
  • Small and Medium Bank Impact: While larger banks might have the resources to meet higher capital requirements, smaller banks could struggle, potentially leading to MORE consolidation in the banking industry...
TLDRS:
  • Today a CLOSED meeting of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve held as it was determined that the public interest did not require opening the meeting.
    • Matter Considered: Review & determination of the advance and discount rates to be charged by the liquidity fairy.
  • Folks have pulled $920 billion in deposits since 4/13/2022
  • Folks have pulled $452 billion in deposits since 2/22/2023
  • Folks have added $86 billion in deposits 5/17-5/24
  • Report: U.S. regulators will potentially raise capital requirements for large banks by about 20%.
    • Deposit rates have been artificially suppressed for so long, can banks survive this?
  • Did they discuss behind closed doors tweaks to the terms of what the liquidity fairy offers coming soon to bail banks out further?
2023.06.05 21:16 CornerCornDog Perry vs Skipper: an analysis (for the Community Matchup Debate tomorrow)
Making this a post because it's easier than splitting it up into multiple comments and I don't have to wait on the debate post to be made.
Woo I’m back at one of these! Here to talk about my most wanted matchup of all time. I’ve done a results screen on this matchup before, so for a tl;dr on the matchup with little elaboration, please see that. But I will give a detailed explanation for who I think wins with this. I’ve been working on a Doofenshmirtz blog for a while and have done several calcs for it, so I feel I am very qualified to talk about Perry. For Skipper, I am not as familiar, so if I get anything wrong please let me know. I have made sure to double-check everything I am saying about him.
With that out of the way, I’ll start with Perry’s stats.
In terms of AP and Durability, Perry has survived getting forced into space on the hood of a car, getting to 14.5 kilotons of TNT. Perry scales to Phineas and Ferb, who survived an explosion that pulverized the ground beneath them, as well as falling from space in their roller coaster, the latter of which gets between Multi-City Block and Town level. Other impressive feats are Ferb shattering part of Mount Rushmore casually and Isabella moving a mountain (Multi-City Block level). You can also scale Perry to Candace screaming loud enough to be heard across the country, which can potentially get to Town level or even higher depending on how it’s calced, though I personally am not proud of this calc and plan to redo it eventually.
Perry also obviously scales to Doofenshmirtz, considering he is regularly able to hurt him and keep up with him in fights. Doofenshmirtz has a lot of good feats, he regularly survives his building blowing up at 17.87 tons of TNT, and he could survive getting stomped on by a building-sized robot, but those aren’t close to his most impressive feats. He’s withstood being launched into space by an explosion, had an asteroid slam into his face at 88 kilotons of TNT, and, like literally every other person on the planet, withstood the kinetic energy of getting launched at the sub-relativistic speeds of the Earth, getting to 3 megatons of TNT (though that does use the lowball of the speed as the highball is FTL and thus not applicable for kinetic energy). Famously, he was able to withstand 80% of the country’s tin foil hitting him at high speeds, and which should be around 2 kilotons of TNT at minimum, with a highball of 411–881 megatons of TNT.
I know there’s the argument I’ve seen that Perry shouldn’t scale to that specific feat because in an alternate timeline where he got hit with it, he was put in a full body cast for 18 months. However, I feel this is the textbook example of an outlier. The only reason Perry is put in a full body cast is because he needed to for the plot of the episode to happen the way it does. On basically every other occasion, Perry has shown to be comparable in strength and durability to Doofenshmirtz, so it does not make sense for him to be as injured by this as he is. The feat should still apply to Perry via scaling to Doofenshmirtz.
Onto speed, the Phineas and Ferb series have several consistent lightspeed feats. Perry and Doofenshmirtz regularly dodge lasers from Doof’s inators, which act like actual lasers do (they typically all travel in a straight line, aren’t shown to have force, and bounce off of reflective surfaces) so they likely travel at lightspeed (this is a low-end as you’ll see soon). Heck even normal people have been able to dodge lasers from Doof’s inators, which isn’t exactly an outlier as Phineas and Ferb were able to accurately pilot remote-control cars that went at lightspeed. Phineas was also able to react to a baseball shot from his baseball machine, which can shoot into space in seconds.
However, that’s just the low-end stuff, and it is likely that Doof’s inators are far faster than that. They should be at least as fast as the first inator (considering it’s the first one), which shot a beam to Mars in a couple seconds, which on average would be 35 times the speed of light. The Shift-the-Earth’s-position-further-away-from-the-Sun-inator shot a beam that traveled to Jupiter in a couple seconds, and the Sphere-Attract-inator shot a beam that went out of the solar system to another planet in seconds. Keep in mind that the Sphere-Attract-inator was intended to grab a ball of twine, so it should logically have no reason to be any faster than Doof’s other inators that characters have dodged. This is actually consistent with other feats like Perry being on the outside of a spaceship that’s traveling to another star cluster and being able to react to asteroids while there, and Ferb being able to accurately pilot Meap’s ship in tight spaces, which has flown to the Shooting Star Milkshake Bar in a couple seconds and went to Meap’s planet in a short timeframe too. All of these would get well into MFTL+.
Also, if you want to include the video games (which typically don’t contradict the show at all), then Phineas and Ferb have perceived an electric current as slow, reacted to things shot at them while piloting Meap’s ship, and can boost their snowboard to jump across the solar system, which can get well into MFTL+ as well. Using the games is debatable but it does show more consistency for this level of speed.
Now moving on to Skipper’s stats. Keep in mind that, unfortunately, some good Madagascar feats have not been calced yet, so I will be forced to eyeball some of them and give a rough estimate. If anyone has a calc for them, please let me know that’d be great.
In terms of AP and Durability, Skipper has survived getting sat on by an elephant and getting hit by a plane, as well as a helicopter crash. He was able to casually beat Nana, who could survive getting hit with a Safari Bus and her apartment exploding, and could go toe-to-toe with Alex. Alex is impressive as he could lift Marty, Gloria, and Melman all at the same time, and survived a punch from Teetsie that cracked the ground several meters away. If I had to guess I think that’d be City Block level but I’m not entirely sure. Skipper also has survived being launched from a cannon from New York to Fort Knox in seconds, and was at the epicenter of the explosion of the North Wind’s plane, which again looks like it might get to City Block level but I’m not sure.
Skipper was also able to match two gorillas in tug-of-war, and keep in mind one of these gorillas was capable of swinging an elephant over his head and throwing it out of the zoo. He should scale to Gloria, who casually destroyed a brick wall, and Marty, who could survive this. He should also scale to King Julien, as he was able to survive a kick from Joey, who could hurt King Julien, and he is also able to one-shot Fossa that threatened King Julien. King Julien is able to cause an avalanche and was at the epicenter of this explosion, which I personally calced at 726 tons to 31 kilotons of TNT. I’ve also heard lemurs and fossa in the show survive nukes offscreen, which would get to between 10 tons and 1 kiloton of TNT at minimum, providing even more consistency for City Block to Town level Madagascar.
In terms of speed, Skipper has outsped a subway train, dodged missiles by dancing, and should scale to Chantel Dubois who could react to bananas shot out of a gatling gun. but those are just bit feats. The best stuff has Skipper dodging and reacting to lasers that act like real lasers, as they bounce off of reflective surfaces, travel in a straight line, and burn on contact. Skipper should easily scale to Dr. Blowhole as he’s regularly able to keep up with him, and Blowhole has dodged a laser calced at 38% the speed of light. Skipper was also able to dodge a punch from Joey, who could tag King Julien multiple times, and King Julien has his own laser-dodging feat. This cements Skipper firmly in the relativistic-FTL range.
Now looking at their stats, it is clear that Skipper is at a fairly big disadvantage. While both can be scaled to Town level, Perry scales far higher into it and can even get into City/Mountain level. Even Perry’s direct feat of being forced into space on the hood of a car gets far higher than anything Skipper can scale to aside from the highball of King Julien’s explosion, and scaling to Doofenshmirtz and potentially some other characters means that Perry would remain much stronger. Speed isn’t any better for the penguin, as while both can scale to light-dodging feats, Perry can get far higher. Even just scaling him to the first Inator means Perry would be over 35 times faster than Skipper, and that’s without the several MFTL+ feats that range from thousands to millions of times FTL, and one of which Perry himself performed. Perry simply has a massive stat advantage in every category that Skipper doesn’t have a good work around for.
Even dubiously scaling Skipper to Mort sucking up an ocean, which is a massive outlier for Skipper and there isn’t much evidence for scaling him to Mort anyway, Perry would arguably be able to match it, as he could just as dubiously scale to Norm, who survived a massive burst of light that enveloped the planet as well as make an explosion that was comparable in size to the planet). I don’t think Perry should scale to Norm in those aspects, but if we scale Skipper to Mort, then scaling Perry to Norm should also be fair game. In this scenario, strength and durability are mostly even with Perry still having an absurd advantage in speed.
Beyond stats, Perry should have the superior arsenal. Skipper often relies on Rico for his gadgets while Perry carries all of him with him, but even with that he still doesn’t hold up to the sheer versatility of Perry’s arsenal. A lot of Skipper’s weapons boil down to explosives like grenades and rocket launchers (Perry also has one of those), which wouldn’t have the potency to harm Perry any more than Skipper’s own attacks would. Meanwhile Perry has a bubble of acid he can surround himself with, a device that can instantly melt something, and a portable hole that he can slap onto a wall to go through it. His hat comes equipped with a buzzsaw, and he is able to summon various animals with his whistles. Keep in mind that this isn’t really outside help and seems to be closer to actual summoning, as he somehow summoned a whale onto the top of a building in seconds.
The big thing in the arsenal that really hurts Skipper is Perry’s magnet watch, which brings anything metal straight to him, even non-magnetic metals like aluminum. Most of Skipper’s arsenal has at least some amount of metal on it, from his explosives to his jetpack to his flamethrower, all of them can be taken away from Skipper with Perry’s magnet. This is a massive detriment, as even though he is already facing an uphill battle, the magnet watch guarantees that Skipper has very little chance of touching Perry.
Now I do believe Skipper has better stealth, as casually breaking into Fort Knox is greater than anything Perry has done, and he has the means to utilize it too with his smoke bombs. Perry has been able to fight an invisible opponent before, but he needed to hear him in order to do so, which Skipper’s stealth wouldn’t allow. Unfortunately, Skipper has no way of actually capitalizing on this, as while he could get the jump on Perry and attack, he still has no way to actually hurt Perry and take him down. In terms of innate abilities, neither have many that aren’t just extensions of their immense skillset. Perry can use his tail as a saw and Skipper can cause explosions with a kick, but neither is going to make a huge difference in this I feel.
With skill, I do think they’re fairly matched. Skipper’s fired a cheesy dibble from a bag accurately enough to hit a button, Perry’s launched a screw with his tail accurately enough to hit Doof’s foot on the rebound. Skipper can throw a playing card with insane accuracy, Perry can do the same with his hat only using his head. I also think that experience is very close between them, with neither having a massive lead over the other. Now in terms of intelligence, I’d actually give a slight advantage to Skipper. Both are very intelligent in combat, but Perry’s also been fooled by Doof’s traps very frequently, so while they have comparable intelligence at their peak, Skipper’s more consistently showed it off. However, that’s not going to be enough to win.
I personally believe the winner to be Perry. He’s much faster, stronger, and more durable, and can shut down most of Skipper’s arsenal while having a vast arsenal of his own. In most tertiary factors I’d say they’re about even with Skipper having a slight edge in intelligence, but Perry’s overwhelming power, speed, and versatility should let him beat the penguin more times than not.
Keep in mind, I haven’t experienced every piece of Madagascar media, and I’m only really familiar with the 4 films. I don’t think anyone’s feat searched Madagascar: A Little Wild or any of the video games so who knows, maybe Alex pulverizes a mountain or something and that turns the tide of the matchup. If there’s something I missed that you think I should’ve brought up, please tell me as I’d love to add it. As of now though, I believe Perry to be the winner.
