Our wedding is in NC in the mountains. Winston Salem, Asheville, Charlotte Boone, and Greensboro would be the closest major cities. We are looking for authentic Italian dishes like cacio e pepe and antipasto with meats and cheeses imported from Italy. 1. 2023 Wilderness Road Bike Ride Bisset Park, Radford Saturday, May 27, 2023, 7:00 AM - TBD Youth Up To Age of 17: $40.00, Adults (age 18+): $50.00, Family of 3-5: $120.00 FCA Endurance SW Virginia presents the 32nd Annual Wilderness Road Ride titled "A Gran Fondo" starting and ending at Bisset Park's Shelter #2. The Wilderness Road Ride is a scenic and historical adventure through Southwest Virginia’s beautiful New River Valley, the ride follows part of Daniel Boone’s Wilderness Road. This is a recreational ride for all cycling levels to enjoy, with something for everyone, five routes to choose from ranging from a 26 mile relaxed journey for novices, to a century challenge for the fittest cyclist. This is a great ride for cyclists of all ages and athletic abilities. The start will be a rolling start open from 7:00-8:00 AM. Riders may also gather in front of Bisset Park Shelter #2 at the starting line at a designated time for an optional group start time. Those who sign up for the century and 80 miler must leave no later than 7:30 AM. All pre-registered riders are guaranteed a technical t-shirt and other goodies. Background: 42, 6', 175 lbs, in pretty good shape, kiteboard, surf, foil, etc. got into mountain biking as another cross-training sport in November 2022. I started with a Giant Talon and after about 6 weeks figured I really liked MTB'ing enough and found a used Giant Fathom 1 in good shape, and I've been riding 2-3 times/week since.
Terrain: I'm in South Carolina, my local trails are flat, very rooty, and not too technical. They are rated in the Blue range, but the uphill/downhill is quick where we do have it. The main challenge is giant oak tree roots, etc. I do, however, plan trips to Dupont/Pisgah and western NC (I used to live in Boone and kick myself for not mountain biking then).
My main issue and I'm working on it is hand pain/numbness, I've switched grips and then handlebar to have more rise which has helped. Would switching to a full suspension help from a comfort standpoint? The one time I've ridden one was a rented bike in Las Vegas in Cottonwood and it was really comfortable (albeit different terrain).
I'm still learning, not really jumping a ton, etc. so I feel like I need to continue to put time in on a hardtail, but.....if spending some money to build some comfort and get more miles in I'd all for it. Looking at the Giant Trance, Canyon Spectral, something in that sub $3k range, or used.
Any thoughts?
