2023.06.06 07:48 jeepluv1 Fire expensive attorney?

In VA. Me and my sibling are helping our mom with her 50 something year divorce. My dad is due to leave the country soon and it's been since last Thursday and out 400 an hour attorney did not update if papers were served or not. When I ask him a list of questions thru email they went unanswered. He made the divorce agreement but I told him some things were incorrect and he said we can adjust them later. Adjust them later but we'd have to pay for his mistakes probably. We are unsure if the papers were confirmed received by the lawyer though my dad said he did get the papers but the lawyer said he'd try to serve again after we told him so. He seems to want to play fair and let all things be equal though my dad has cheated thru the marriage lives with another woman abroad and has been rumored to have fathered a kid out of wedlock. If we let this lawyer go would we even get back the rest of the retainer? How difficult is it to let a lawyer go after starting?

2023.06.06 07:47 Fragrant_Skin_48 Closing BDO Account Rant (Need advice). TYIA!

Hi all,
Just wanted to rant and also get advice regarding my situation with BDO as a dual citizen. I had to sign forms W4 and FATCA. I opened an account on May 24 and I just went to the branch to pick up my ATM card. The person (i believe is a supervisor) refused to give me my card because she said my signatures looks different and I told her thats how my signatures look like. I showed her my US ID’s containing my signatures and wrote my signature down multiple times in front of her. She proceeded to tell me “walang ganyan ganyan dito sa pilipinas dapat parehas lahat.” (i write my signatures with my first initial and then my last name in wiggly script or sometimes my first initial and my last initial then some wiggly script LOL). I understand her POV or her cautiousness about signatures but using the differences with my signature as probable cause as to why she wont give me my ATM card seems a bit much especially that I showed her an identification and writing samples of my signature. IDK if its that or maybe the way i was dressed (since from experience of being in the PH so far, shops look down on people who doesn’t dress up nicely to their liking.)
I’m about to launch a business in the PH and was going to deposit a 7 figure amount but after my interaction with BDO, I no longer want to trust them with my money. And definitely will not do business with a bank that discriminates against anyone who doesn’t meet a certain socioeconomic “look.”
Now I asked them to cancel my account but they said they can’t cancel it until after a month and have to be present in person. The issue is I have to fly back to the US before the month is up and wont be able to close the account in person. Will there be any issues if I withdraw all my money from the account and leave it as is? Since I signed US forms, will this affect my credit score there or affect something here for me in the future?
Thank you for reading my rant-advice letter! I appreciate any info I can get. Please feel free to recommend any other banks that you like.

2023.06.06 07:46 Fancyxo They're ruining league for casual players like how they ruined fortnite

Anyone notice how they have recently over the past few years have DRAMATICALLY shifted into overdrive with the changes in meta with adding new items/changes/buffs/reworks? I'm talking the champions looking the same but they are fundamentally different than they were before like yuumi rework, yomuus change etc, (let me state im not saying these reworks are a bad thing).
For the casual player these huge spike in changes to champions and now allowing for a meta to set for an entire year and letting the meta shift in preseason like its supposed to is huge change for the casual player and the year long season grinder (myself along with many other casual players who play the game for fun/grind for a rank).
What im saying is that because of the constant changes, like the patch of exe change, then the revert, then this change, then the revert, etc, all in the same season.... doesnt allow for a meta to set, makes it feel hard for casual players.
All casual, year long players want to know is patches are to fix minor imbalances in overtuned champions or items not major changes in gameplay (THAT IS WHAT PRESEASON IS FOR!)
TLDR - fortnite meta changed to much too often and forced casual players to no longer play the game because if you didnt play 24/7 you'd become behind, the same thing is happening with league of legends now, don't ruin the game with constant changes, that's what preseason is for.

2023.06.06 07:45 BasisUnlucky2644 Help me (F21) come with a response to my new boyfriend (M20)

What is a good way to respond to "What is something about yourself that you think so don't know"? We have been going through it lately and I've been trying to brainstorm an answer for the past 3 hours. I haven’t been able to open up to him as much as I want to yet and I feel like he still doesn’t know a lot about me yet. We just got out of the talking stage and into a relationship and I don’t want to say anything that will weird him out lol. I’m desperate for a way to respond to him so i don’t care if i have to lie I just need a good answer!

2023.06.06 07:45 MonsieurAuclair Looking for Feedback

New to sub but not my point. I need feedback on the story that I am writing and am looking for anyone that can give me it. And yes, I am being very broad in the term feedback.
The draft
Those who harvested their crop and lived in the older times we called "The Wild West" didn't live very smoothly.
Corruption still thrived and gangs, murderers, and other curses of the land still lived, but were tested in their limits.
June 1897.
The sun rose, as always, and many a man had woken from their slumber.
"Good morning Issac." His mother greeted along with a smile.
"Morning." Isaac groaned.
He climbed slowly from his bed, with his muscles stretching and eyes feeling like a bruise.
He walked down the sunlit hallway, glancing at the tintype and cabinet cards that were hung by rusty nails. Some were of his small family and some were of his home.
He sat on the kitchen table that had taken beatings by the weight of people, and laid on top was a wooden bowl of stew with a fork sticking out of the glowing meal.
"Morning, son. Did you sleep well?" Abraham asked, with a hearty voice and calm attitude.
"Yes, sir."
"Good, we'll be going to the city soon, we need salt and soap." "I was thinking... could we go to the show in the city? I want to go."
Issac's father pondered the idea, which was noticeable to Issac.
"Why not."
Issac had butterflies, this was his chance to see Mr. Dupont and his Marvelous Acts, a show he desperately wanted to see and hear.
"But first," Abraham started. "finish your food and do your chores, I need them done before we leave."
Issac hurriedly scarfed down his bowl of stew, and with determination he did. He dashed outside but not before grabbing the old bucket.
His first chore was the milk the cow that had been here for some time. The old bucket he used was there for a time, maybe before he was born.
Issac smoothly squeezed the cow's udders, while he whistled a favorite song of his. While his white shirt and pants got dirty, he was busy daydreaming.
But Issac heard something in the distance, and he quickly stood. He could see men in white riding on horseback wielding repeaters.
Issac sprung into action, dropping his bucket and sprinting inside.
"Ma! Pa!"
He burst through the door, with his parents shocked.
"What's the matter?" Atabey asked. "There are men in white out there! I think they were carrying guns!"
Abraham had quit his reading quickly and charged towards the master bedroom. Atabey looked shocked, she was scared, frightened even.
"Issac! Come here!" Abraham shouted.
Issac ran into the bedroom, where his father was, crouched near the edge.
"Here, take this."
His father had handed him a Widowmaker. Issac had held a gun only once, and he was afraid to wield it.
"You remember how to use it?"
Isaac nodded his head yes, but deep down he wasn't ready in the slightest. A deep feeling of anxiety kicked in his stomach.
"If I fall, don't help me, just shoot them. Go with your mother."
Issac ran back to his mom, who was holding a knife and was sitting up against the sink cabinet. He kneeled next to her.
Abraham sat below the window with his gun in hand. Issac peeked only to see the men already at the front with a look in their eyes.
"Come out now!" A man shouted. "We know you niggers are inside! Including you Abraham!" "How do you know my name?" Abraham asked. "Your friends were more than willing to tell us. Now... you're gonna die."
Suddenly, a man in white busted through the back door, and Issac quickly shot the man. The shot pierced through his robes, leaving a blood stain.
Issac's father took the opportunity to shoot him again, killing him.
But more men charged in, and they overwhelmed The James Family. "Pa! Duck!"
Abraham was late and was struck in the face, and Isaac pulled the trigger, but there was no ammo. He tried fighting them but he had no skill nor strength to do so and was trapped in a neckhold.

2023.06.06 07:44 maxwellcawfeehaus Palpitations, exhaustion, can’t sleep, quality of life is killing me physically and mentally.

Hi - 35, male, in good shape, exercise and eat decent and for 7-8 years (increasingly worse) I’ve had constant palpitations in my whole body every day and night that keep me up at night (pounding heart, skipped beats, discomfort in lips, fingers, chest, etc). I wake up almost hourly at night, I’m exhausted every day. The last few nights I cannot even fall asleep bc of it. I’m laying in bed now with uncomfortable palpitations. I start to doze off then they wake me up. I also feel like I may have apnea because I jolt awake when I start to doze off. But I’ve had sleep tests that ruled that out. My GP said my resting heart rate is too low for beta blockers.
I get dizzy and feel like I’m going to pass out during the day, I sometimes feel ok in the morn from 7am until about noon then I crash and need a nap and often feel groggy and weak with brain fog. Almost every day.
I have seen 3 GPS for years with no signs of any issues they can pinpoint. I have a cardiologist who has done a halter monitor and echo and no issues have been found. I saw a sleep focused neurologist who ruled out apnea and their sleep prescriptions and anxiety meds didn’t help. I’ve seen ents, allergists, dentists, and psychiatrists and nobody has helped. My dentist gave me a night guard for tmj but I have felt no improvement since using that.
My quality of life is horrible and I am feeling so incredibly sad and frustrated and I am hopeless and tired. Thanks.

2023.06.06 07:44 Kiwimaseyi 29[M4F] Just a French single dad looking for something wholesome, with selfie inside! :)

Is it me, or dating is becoming harder and harder? :/
Anyway, hi! I'm Raphaël, a French single dad living near Paris with my 8 years old son. It's been just us two for a while now, and the dating scene have been pretty rough on me, so I though I'd try it out here!
A little about me :
Anyway if you're interested in chatting feel free to contact me, maybe mention your age location, and add a picture so we can get the conversation going? :) I'm looking for a relationship based on trust and respect, pretty classic you might say. I'm also looking for someone that agrees to relocate, as being a single dad makes it hard to move around the globe. It's not for tomorrow of course but it's important enough to mention it. I'd be more than happy to help with the move as it's scary and expensive, money being not a problem for me!
So yeah, see you soon I hope :)

2023.06.06 07:44 Lonely-Champion-8102 new here. would appreciate any and all advice/input..

new here. would appreciate any and all thoughts and advice.
i woke up this morning around 8. everything was normal, i went back to sleep for a bit. the second time waking up, i noticed a very strange smell. almost sweet, kind of like antifreeze. it’s hard to explain. i felt nauseated because it was so strong and unpleasant. i determined that it was my coconut scented hand-soap (mind you, i’ve been using this hand-soap for years and have never had an issue). i started panicking a bit because it was all extremely odd. i fixated on it, couldn’t forget about it. a couple hours later, my sister and i drove to starbucks. she got a pink drink (which contains coconut milk). her drink smelt identical to the hand-soap. i had been snacking on some popcorn this past week with coconut oil. when i got home from starbucks, i took a whiff of the popcorn. it didn’t smell strange to me at all. i got a new brand and “flavor” of hand-soap, and it had the same sweet, almost antifreeze smell. i was just snacking on some cinnamon coated pita chips. i smelt the inside of the bag, got the same strong smell. but they tasted fine. nothing i’ve eaten has tasted off, and most things smell normal. to add, i’ve never had a problem with the smell of coconut until today. i’m extremely confused. i took a covid test and it came back negative. i feel fine. my doctor said that it could be a smell aversion? just popped up out of nowhere? it’s gotten a tiny bit better now, but still noticeable. very strange…

2023.06.06 07:43 Letic02 Can’t take responsibility

Everything was always my fault…(supposedly)
Although my ex wBPD wasn’t nearly as abusive as some others on this sub, towards the end of our relationship I was frequently accused of things I didn’t do, she twisted my words, she would frequently pick fights and act bitchy, wouldn’t reply to my messages for hours etc. When she was being rude and I confronted her about her behaviour, she would accuse me of making her act like this and would bring up my past mistakes (from months ago) and could just never apologise. Everything was always my fault, even when it wasn’t.
When she found herself someone to replace me with, she started treating me like garbage. Although I surely wasn’t perfect, I absolutely never treated her like this and was always supportive of her struggles, but after she decided she was done with me, I became worthless.

2023.06.06 07:43 kevinMenear Course Plan that Satisfies Interactive Intelligence & Computing Systems Spec

I'm a big fan of this program. It has already changed my life in huge ways and I'm still one year away from graduation. I've agonized over my course plan every semester, and think I've finally landed on the final edition. After minting it, I realized it satisfies the requirements for both the Interactive Intelligence and Computing Systems specializations. Here it is, for anyone like me who is looking for a roadmap, in the order I took them/am going to take them:
  1. Knowledge-Based AI (KBAI) (Spring '21)
  2. Graduate Introduction to Operating Systems (GIOS) (Summer '21)
  3. Introduction to High-Performance Computing (IHPC) (Fall '21)
  4. Educational Technology (EdTech) (Spring '22)
  5. Summer off for an internship -- and a much-needed break (Summer '22)
  6. Artificial Intelligence (AI) (Fall '22)
  7. Network Science (NetSci) (Spring '23)
  8. High Performance Computer Architecture (HPCA) (taking this now)
  9. Deep Learning (DL) (Fall '23)
  10. Introduction to Graduate Algorithms (GA) (Spring '24)
  11. Computer Networks (CN) (Summer '24)
KBAI and AI gave a foundation in AI (KBAI was also the perfect on-ramp to the program, I think). GIOS, IHPC, HPCA, and CN provide a foundation in computing systems. DL gives insight into machine learning and seems like the best course to learn the heart of neural networks. GA is the OMSCS algorithms course, which says enough.
NetSci may seem questionable, but I think there is real growth potential in this field, and it gives a good intro to graph theory and network analysis which are applicable to many domains.
EdTech may also raise an eyebrow, but you have complete freedom to do whatever project you want to do. Not only did I learn the ropes of real CS research in this course, but I also used it to learn JavaScript, Node.js, web scraping, and graph databases.
For context, I came into this program with a BS in Mechanical Engineering and took an online course in Data Structures & Algorithms to prepare/before applying. I'm a middle school teacher and a father of four, including two identical twins that were a year and a half old when I started this program. This program has stretched me to my limits but it continues to be so, so worth it.

2023.06.06 07:43 Herrowgayboi What are your favorite places to travel within the US? Would love recommendations.

I'm located in the Bay Area, CA and have visited quite a few states. Only a few of them I enjoyed, but the rest weren't that great. That said, I'd love to travel around the states some more, but would love to go somewhere where I'll enjoy my time.
Places I've enjoyed:
- Hawaii (Oahu and Big Island) - absolutely beautiful beaches and hikes, only complaint is the amount of tourists
- Austin/San Antonio TX - I loved the culture here (both in the city and outskirts) and people were extremely friendly. I've gone to Austin multiple times and every time has been a good time.
- Utah - The national parks here are absolutely gorgeous and well worth the travels, but the only problem is the distance in relation to what is around. IIRC, you're easily driving 2-3hrs+ just to get anywhere.
- Las Vegas NV - I absolutely love the city vibe here and how dense the city (in the strip) is, but the amount of tourists is a bit bothersome.
- AZ - depending on the town, there's some nice things to see.
- Montana - While it's quite empty, I loved how clear the air was and Glacier National Park was an absolute treat.
Places I didn't enjoy:
- Washington/Oregon - It just felt like a downgraded San Francisco to me. Cost was still high, yet quality of food/service seemed to be lower.
- Idaho/Wyoming - were relatively boring to me as you had to drive for hours to get pretty much anywhere...
- Colorado - Ski parks are amazing here, but I don't think they were worth the chaos of trying to fly out there and deal with how packed those ski resorts get.
- Florida/Georgia/Tennessee/Alabama/South Carolina - my absolute will not go to again. I've only been once to this area and hated pretty much every moment of it. I tried my best to enjoy it but people here were extremely rude and there's really not much interesting things. Their "points of interest" are mediocre at best IMO. Worst part was we went to all the local recommended spots + went to highly reviewed restaurants and the food was mediocre at best. At some point during the trip, I just gave up and just ate fast food for the remainder because it taste just as good without the expensive price tag.
