2023.05.31 22:10 Tronth995 i7 13700k vs i7 13700kf

Hi, I don't know which one to choose.
13700K: 425€
13700KF: 385€
I don't do streaming and in my old 4770k I never used the integrated graphics card.
As far as I understand the only use would be troubleshooting / waiting for RMA, for which I could also buy a 100€ card in amazon and then return it.
So, any other advantage to the K model over the KF? Is 40€ worth the integrated graphics card just in case?
Thanks,
Ps: There is also the option of 13600k for 320€, although those 2 extra p-cores might be handy seeing the latest games released.

2023.05.31 18:55 rn0507 X1 Carbon Gen 10 OR Gen 11 (i7 1260p vs i7 1335u?)?

My gen 7 x1c started showing weird signs that it might die soon (the weird failed bootup with chimes occured 3 days past month, always resolves if i leave it overnight) so i pulled the trigger and bought a Gen 10 X1C with 1260p i7 and the OLED screen for around $1600. Today i noticed the Gen 11 with the newer 1355u i7 and configured with the OLED is only around $60 different. Having read all the reviews on the 10 i definitely got worried about the powebattery issues but tbh i hardly ever use the machine outside my home office and when i do i have accessible power over 80% of the time. Having said that, the 1335u is a 13th gen processor vs the 12th on the 1260p. Considering the price difference do i just return the x1c gen 10? I don't see many reviews on the 11 yet and the reviews i do see complain that the battery/power issues haven't been fixed and the U processor is unpowered compared to the P versions on the prior generation model? My use case is mostly limited to daisy chaining 2 4k monitors (using a lenovo p27u-20 as the primary monitor), i trade from home so the p27 displays my trading software and the other monitor for browsing and videos. Occasionally have a large excel to work through but mostly it's just trading and youtube/reddit. Any opinions or feedback on either model would be very much appreciated! Thanks!

2023.05.31 17:39 3xpl0it_zero MOTU 8M Soundcard won't load with OC on macOS 12

MOTU 8M Soundcard won't load with OC on macOS 12
Hola everyone,
I have a running hackintosh with an old clover build which runs perfectly on Mojave (10.14.6).
I tried now several times updating to OC and everything works fine - except the soundcard which is mandatory for this setup (as it's part of a music studio).
I already reached out to a fellow hackintosher who went through everything with me and he is also out of ideas - so we both think this might be an OpenCore issue.

What is the problem?

The MOTU soundcard won't show up on cold boot (or restart) using thunderbolt on OC although the same system will work on mojave (clover).

Which driver are we talking about?

This device: https://motu.com/products/avb/8m
- the old clover config would always work with a kext (v91429)
- starting macOS 11 MOTU will switch to a dext (v92740)
https://motu.com/en-us/download/#category=1&product=315
https://preview.redd.it/48goqia3z73b1.png?width=990&format=png&auto=webp&s=998cb9ad90b9688d441f5cf378026403f000656a

What we have tried so far?

- verified that the OC config for thunderbolt is correct
- tested a different thunderbolt soundcard from a different vendor with the same configuration => it will work
https://preview.redd.it/1d0q0qgk783b1.png?width=1724&format=png&auto=webp&s=2b68a23be1fc474bcb3dc727d4a99df7e9d84b6f

=> Thunderbolt does not seem to be the issue here!
____________________________
- trying the same soundcard which can also be attached via USB - drivers will load and it will work (however the in/outputs will be cut in half - so this is not an option)
- verified that the MOTU drivers are loaded
systemextensionsctl list 1 extension(s) --- com.apple.system_extension.driver_extension enabled active teamID bundleID (version) name [state] * * KRCLLMGZ2D com.motu.driver.pro.audio.dext (2.0.0 92740/2.0.0 92740) com.motu.driver.pro.audio.dext [activated enabled]
____________________________ - debugged the boot log
We see several issues with the motu driver during load but it doesnt make much sense cause the driver will work when connected via USB. And the system tells me it's notarised and loaded.
However these are the output of the current log:

- the soundcard will work directly when attaching to a native macbook running ventura
screenshot of native macbook driver load

____________________________

- with OC and the new config i changed the following - don't think this is related, but worth to mention
Difference Clover Mojave vs. Open Core Mavericks
Clover: MacPro 1,1 OC: Mac Pro 7,1
____________________________
- tried on MacOS 11, 12, 13
- tried BIOS update to most current version (3701) (had no effect) - needed to downgrade again to use existing clover configuration. Running BIOS Version: 0210

Summary

- thunderbolt seems to work
- soundcard seems to work
- it might be connected to the OC initial loading mechanism?
- the boot logs seem strange and they don't fit to what we see, when the system is booted up. Maybe in the moment of boot, OC boot process cannot load the drivers? Due to the lack of hotplug there is no way to "trigger" the load of the driver after boot again.
- we are currently out of any ideas how to debug this further. happy about any comment how to dig deeper here? could this be related to open core?

2023.05.31 16:23 Stormsonger Will I notice any difference between Intel Core i7 - 13700H and AMD Ryzen 7 7840HS for my use cases?

Hello,
The laptop will be used primarily for coding, Java, JavaScript, IntelliJ, VS Code, Docker use with couple of containers running, web browsing, watching movies, listening music etc.
The laptop will be used primarily on a desk, with external monitor, keyboard and mouse attached to it.
In my country there are currently Lenovo Yoga Pro 7 with Intel Core I7 - 13700H and 32GB of RAM, on a fairly good price. I have no idea when laptops with actual Zen4 CPU's will start showing up. There currently only gaming laptops with Zen4 and I don't want gaming laptop.
Seems to me that AMD Zen4 will be better, since the TDP is a little bit lower, and the integrated GPU is way better, than the Intel ones.
I am also worried that the Intel CPU might get quite hot.
I am moving in a new city soon and the plan was to live couple of months there, then couple of months back in my hometown and rotate where I live, that's why I want a laptop. I do have desktop PC, which I can move with me, but really don't want to bother with that.
Is it worth to wait for non gaming laptops with actual zen4 CPUs inside them?
Do you think, I will notice any difference between Intel and AMD, according to my use cases?

2023.05.31 15:20 HexWired Differences between these 2 Asus Tuf / other recommendations.

I'm looking to get a laptop and have been looking at various Lenovo and Asus laptops. I saw these two Asus Tuf laptops and know they're mostly the same apart from a few differences and I want to know if it's worth the extra $100:
Amazon Asus Tuf
VS
Costco Asus Tuf
Also, I'm not necessarily looking for a gaming laptop but I figured they would have the power to last 5+ years without becoming sluggish. So if you have other recommendations then I'm all ears.
Requirements:
Reliability (good for 5+ years)
Easily Upgradeable RAM/Storage
HDMI output
Powerful enough to rip 4k Blu-Rays (via USB drive)
The weight doesn't matter and I'd like to stick to a $800-$900 range (willing to go a bit higher if it's worth it).

2023.05.31 15:07 KvoDon Should I switch from my M1 Air MacBook to the XPS 13 Plus?

I have a person who is willing to swap my Mac with his XPS 13 provided that I pay $200.
Specs:
Base model M1 Air, 8 core CPU/7 core GPU, 8/256GB, 100% battery health (17 cycles)
Dell XPS 13 Plus, i7-1260P, FHD+ non touch, 16/512, 100% battery (? cycles)
Important to me:
Performance of a factor because both are plenty fast for what I do - although the Dell is a lot faster.
Battery life is my main concern, as the reviews weren't too amazed by it. (although they did use an oled display). I've never killed a laptop in terms of battery life, but I just love the peace of mind that comes with the battery life of the Mac.
I love tech in general, and generally I would be easily able to decide here, but none of the store is my are have the Dell, so it's harder to decide and I want to hear a the community's feedback before doing such a "risky move".
ps. I also will probably use Linux on it as I prefer it over windows (ubuntu probably as it's "certified" for it).
I am not from the US so prices and discounts don't really work for me

2023.05.31 13:23 cs_aaron_ 13th Gen I5 or I7 for 3D Work?

Hi, i read a lot of threads discussing the i7 13700k vs i5 13600k and I’m still undecided. I’m going to upgrade from a i5 2500 💀and am not sure if the 4 extra threads are worth 100$ more. Since I have a quad core cpu now,100$ dollars for more threads seem a good value to me but I’m still unsure to go with the value king i5. I’m gonna do ALOT of 3D Rendering (on cpu and gpu with XPU rendering) and smoke Physics simulations in Houdini where more cores, like the Threadripper has, tend to perform better, so would you recommend me as a Poweruser an i7 13700k? (I’m pairing it with a RTX 4090) Ty for Advice🙌

The iRobot Roomba j7+ is the latest and greatest addition to the Roomba family of robot vacuums. As a longtime user of the Roomba line, I was excited to see what new features the j7+ had to offer. And let me tell you, this vacuum did not disappoint.

Features

One of the standout features of the j7+ is its advanced mapping technology. Using a combination of cameras, sensors, and artificial intelligence, the j7+ can create a detailed map of your home. This allows it to navigate your space more efficiently, clean more thoroughly, and avoid obstacles with ease. One of my favorite things about the j7+ is its automatic dirt disposal feature. With a charging dock that doubles as a dirt bin, the j7+ can empty itself after each cleaning session. This is a game-changer for anyone who hates dealing with the mess and hassle of emptying a traditional vacuum. Plus, the j7+ can hold up to 60 days' worth of dirt and debris, so you won't have to empty it nearly as often as you would a regular vacuum.
Speaking of cleaning, the j7+ does an excellent job of picking up dirt and debris from all surfaces. Whether you have hardwood floors or carpets, the j7+ has adjustable suction power and brushes that can handle it all. Plus, with the ability to customize cleaning schedules and zones, you can ensure that your home stays clean without lifting a finger.
One thing to note about the j7+ is that it does come with a pretty hefty price tag. However, if you're someone who values their time and wants a high-quality, hassle-free cleaning experience, then it's definitely worth the investment. Plus, when you factor in the time and money you'll save on traditional vacuuming, the j7+ pays for itself over time.

Overall

I highly recommend the iRobot Roomba j7+ to anyone in the market for a top-of-the-line robot vacuum. Its advanced mapping technology, obstacle detection, automatic dirt disposal, and powerful cleaning capabilities make it a standout product in its category. So sit back, relax, and let the j7+ take care of the cleaning for you. You won't be disappointed.

2023.05.31 03:34 TimPrillerFan Help in choosing best value PC: Alienware R15 i7 13700KF RTX 4080 16GB vs. Skytech Gaming Eclipse i9 139000K RTX 4090?

I am looking for a pre built gaming PC that can last at high performance for a long time before becoming irrelevant.
I also want a PC that I can upgrade parts in the future.
Alienware R15: $2600 final price, https://deals.dell.com/en-us/productdetail/ghbr
Specs: i7 13700kf
Nvidia RTX 4080 16 GB GDDR6X
16 GB, 2x8 GB, DDR5, 4800
1TB NVMe M.2
1350W Platinum PSU
Skytech Gaming Eclipse PC: $3425 final price: https://skytechgaming.com/product/0524-13900k-4090-32grgb/
Specs: I9-139000k
Nvidia RTX 4090
CPU Cooler: 420 mm AIO
Motherboard: z690 DDR5
Ram: 32GB (16x2) DDR5
1TB Gen4 NVMe
1200W Gold Atx 3.0
I’m not very familiar with PCs which is why I’m looking for a prebuilt one instead of building my own. If anyone has any input on pricing or certain aspects of either PC I’d really appreciate it
I know people dislike Alienware but for the price and specs it’s currently one of the best. My concern with it is heat and upgradability in the future. I do not know much about skytech gaming builds to compare currently. Thanks for all the help.

2023.05.30 23:26 mellowmanj AMD Ryzen 5 5600g vs Intel i7 10700

At my budget, these are the 2 processors that seem to be most available to me here in Argentina. Any thoughts on which of the two to go with?
I'm not editing anything 4K. Just 1080p, hour-long video essays to post on YouTube. Mainly just my voice with images. 6 or 7 video tracks. Sometimes I like to pan and scan the images, make vignettes, use the crop or blur filters, basic masking... and in the future I'd like to make animated titles and add some movement to the intros, using after effects. But generally, pretty basic. Would both of these processors easily do the trick, using their integrated graphics cards? One better than the other with Premiere?

2023.05.30 17:25 beycharra 12th gen i5 vs 11th gen i7

While buying a laptop, shall I give more importance to the generation (11th gen, 12th gen, etc) or the i series (i5, i7, i9, etc)?
I want to buy a laptop for 1080p video editing, graphic design, and web browsing. I have 2 options 12th gen i5 and 11th gen i7. Which one should I go for?

2023.05.30 16:39 Requires_Help Workstation or Commercial GPU for Engineering?

My company is looking at upgrading our (mechanical) engineering computers and I wanted to get a second opinion. I'm not part of the conversation but just wanted to know each side.
Some people are saying to get a workstation which as I understand is more reliable, more business-oriented, and much higher price; others are saying to just go with a more "consumer" computer as it will have similar performance at a much-reduced cost.
There have been two different computers quoted with most being similar between the two (i7-13700F vs i9-12900, 32 GB DDR4 3200 vs 32 GB DDR5 4400, 1 TB SSDs) except the GPU's. The workstation has an Nvidia T1000 4GB, and the consumer has an RTX 3060 12 GB.
Workstation Consumer
CPU i9-12900 i7-13700F
GPU Nvidia T1000 4GB RTX 3060 12 GB
Ram 32 GB DDR5 4400 32 GB DDR4 3200
SSD 1 TB 1 TB
The computers would mainly be used for SolidWorks, some simulation (FEA), and some number crunching (but that should be more on CPU). There is a significant price difference between the two systems (the consumer is 35% less than the workstation). I've never had any issues with any of my consumer GPU's and I'm personally wondering if the workstation GPU is worth the price difference (from what I can see online, the 3060 also seems to be the naturally stronger card, if just not having the 'benefits' of workstation reliability, etc).

It's truly impressive to watch the j7+ in action as it seamlessly maneuvers around furniture and other objects in its path.
Another fantastic feature of the j7+ is its ability to detect and avoid items on the floor. Thanks to its advanced sensors, the j7+ can detect everything from cords to pet toys and will automatically work around them. This means you won't have to worry about the vacuum getting stuck or damaging your belongings.

2023.05.30 09:02 LoneAabid Is Intel i7 better than i5 for editing

In general, if the user’s primary use case involves basic tasks or light gaming, then i5 is a good option.
However, for more demanding tasks such as video editing or gaming with high graphics settings, an i7 with 16GB Ram, 2.5GHz Clock speed, dedicated graphics, and 4 or more core count is usually necessary for optimal performance.

2023.05.30 08:22 france_mala Lenovo Legion slim 7i (Gen 8) vs 7 pro variants and price - 13700h/4060 vs 13900hx/4070? -what do you think?

Hi all!!!

I did a "sorting" and opted for value for money for the Lenovo Legion 7 2023 but I am not sure (for example, I really like the ROG Scar but the price is unaffordable).

I am undecided between the "variants" and respective configurations (both "slim" and "pro" and components) and relative price. Keep in mind that I am coming from a Rog Scar edition with i7-8700h and GTX1060...
