for the last 4 weeks i have asked my boss for more work but im not getting enough. each morning before the daily stand up meeting i would message him with the tasks i completed tasks i am working on ect. each time i tell him im underutilized and would like more work he says " im so busy i cant think of anything to give you atm let me think about it" then he might give me a 5 min task. its gotten to the point that i don't have any updates each morning. i spent 2 weeks reviewing compliance documents insuring we are compliant. the thing is this was 40 files and we went over 1 document which was due in February. several were due in march. i have asked if i should work ahead and was told not to since we need to discuss it as a team. i had all of the documents finished in less than a week but had to revert some of it as not to work to far ahead. my task for today was to check a few log ins and make sure they work. that took me 5 minutes. my boss is going on vacation for a week in which i will have 0 work. i am payed hourly and i dont have time reporting or i would be screwed. my job boils down to checking a mailbox that no one uses and a small amount of busy work. this is the first job that i have ever had that isnt 150% workload. I have a hybrid schedule so when im at home i am barely checked in at work. im watching so much youtube/reddit/netflix that when im done with work i dont know what to do with my time. its affecting my mental health. is it because my company is likely to be bought out and so no one wants to work anymore?? is it because im in a compliance role and dont have to do much? i dont feel uncomfortable asking my boss for more work each day as he has expressed his frustration at this due to another employee doing it too much. the pay is good but the reason i need to stay is due to my poor work history. my boss/manager keep saying more work is on its way when the next phase of the project ends. its its anything like the last project then i will have a weeks worth of work stretched over months. i have to be close to my laptop/internet so i cant go far. i do have to go into the office about twice a week. staring at spreadsheet but not doing anything for hours on end drains a person. should i get a part time job? should i get a side project? should i start day drinking? my concern is im going to be finishing my double masters degree in 6 months and when that happens i will actually have so much free time idk what i will do. my friends say to not shake the boat if im being payed or to get a side project. any suggestions? also sorry for the long post.

 | I recently got a new laptop (Zephyrus g14 2022) and iv been having issues with connectivity to casual servers. This issue did not happen with my old laptop. Today has been exceptionably poor. Iv attached some images of my network graph (if those help). Sometimes its fine but others I get inconsistent connection or I get this weird "blocking" (first image below). Iv tried restarting my router, restarting my computer, updating my network card driver (I have a mediaTek wifi 6e mt7922. updating made the problem worse, so I rolled back) and changing the channel bandwidth to the 20MHz only (did nothing but made my internet slow). Windows is up to date. None of these have seemed to help. Doing a speedtest said that I got 46ms of ping. 2023.06.01 00:25 syeager96 Don't know how to handle my 8yo child. Please read if you can relate or have advice.
My 8yo was diagnosed with ADHD and oppositional defiance disorder two years ago and we are currently seeking further diagnosis but it takes times and wait lists to get into doctors are almost a year out at this point. He exhibits a lack of empathy for everyone around him with the exception of his 2 baby brothers and animals. Lack of overall emotion(example: if I were to buy him something he told me he really wants or take him somewhere he really wants to go to he would not be happy or excited about it and would in fact act as if he was boered or disappointed we didn't buy him something different or take him somewhere else, nothing is ever good enough for him) no self control (example: he wants to hit his middle brother he hits him, he wants to use a cuss word he cusses, he wants to throw a toy across the room at the wall he does) no motivation (example: if I were to let him sit on his tablet or Nintendo switch all day and not bother him he wouldn't even get up to eat he would lay in bed all day and do nothing, another example: he got selected at school to participate in an evaluation thru the state to see if he was gifted in the visual arts and was asked to create five original art pieces for a portfolio he wanted nothing to do with it and refused to participate we tried for weeks to encourage him sat down to create together as I do art as well and he said he didn't care and didn't want to do it) he has poor social skills ( example: he often pushes his friends away by bullying them or saying things that are hurtful and not really caring if they are his friend or not in the first place. He often tells me he doesn't want or need friends he doesn't want a wife or children he wants to watch YouTube and just be rich). Anything you say to him he takes to the extreme (for example: me saying to him son I don't like it when you do that can you please stop, his response would be oh so your saying you don't like me okay another example: I say son your gonna be on punishment if you please do not do your one singular chore for the day and he would respond okay well I'm on punishment I'm just gonna go to my room and will walk away without completing it and lay in bed) he has poor self esteem and little self worth (example: all the adults in his life will say great job for getting such good grades in school we are proud of you and know how hard you worked to make it thru the school year his response would be no I'm stupid. Another example: wow your art is so creative I love it his response would be no it's stupid and ugly and you hate it). He will selectively go non verbal and only reply in hums but not for any extended period of time. He makes different noises and claims that he does them on purpose to annoy everyone around him (his words) but I think he may be embarrassed of the fact that everyone including teachers classmates and his cousins always comment on the noises he makes and I think they may be something he does to help regulate himself when he gets overwhelmed and maybe he doesn't know why he makes the noises he just does. We have him on Vyvanse 30mg and he sees a counselor once a week we also are in constant contact thru out the school year with his teacher and the principal and guidance counselor we have him on a 504 plan and it is extremely detailed and I talk to the teachers and guidance counselor regularly thru out the week. As of today 5/31/23 we are taking him off the medicine for a few weeks to get him back to his baseline and wanting to have him reevaluated because we don't like the way the medicine affects him. He's a straight A student but I fear its only because he is on medicine for his ADHD and if we were to go a different route without medication his grades would suffer incredibly. He's so extremely gifted in art and in doing things like Legos and rubix cube. I have tried every approach to bond with my son relate to my son be understanding be strong for him I am patient I advocate for him his father and I are divorced but his father his new wife myself and any other family you could think of are very involved in his life in supporting him being patient and showing him empathy and support letting him know how loved he is and it's okay if he's a little different we can find tools and ways to live and put them in our tool box to use when we are having a hard time or a hard day. I try to not give into him when he picks fights with me or says hurtful things when he is making the noises to the point that I want to scream I try so hard to remain nice and calm and understanding and if anything I will just walk away or try to not acknowledge the noises. I don't know what to do anymore. I have tried everything to get him to listen or atleast see that every action has a consequence. I don't know how to parent my child and neither does his father or step mother. He doesn't care about anything. No electronics he doesn't care. No toys he doesn't care. Grounded to his room he doesn't care. He will look us dead in the eyes and just out right refuse to do anything. Very rarely does he listen to his father or i or act like he cares about anything. The only time he smiles and seems to be having a fun time is when no adults are around and those moments where you just leave your children to play and figure things out on their own or if it's something he wants like Pokemon or Roblox or playing video games. We do not spank him as we are trying to break generational habits and I feel even more strongly about it towards him as I feel like whatever mental health stuff he has going on spanking or anything along "traditional punishment" will only make everything worse. We do however follow thru with things like taking electronics away standing in the corner or being stuck in his room because those are the only "punishments we can get him to do without physically touching him and punishments chores and routines are the same amongst households. My son does not tell me he loves me he does not hug me he rarely talks to me or shares his school life or friend life only unless it is about video games or again something he is interested in. He bully's his middle brother his cousins family friends everyone. He does not express emotions to anyone in his life. Im coming from a place of desperation. There is much more to his story and please if you can trust an Internet stranger trust that we are all trying to do what's best for him and talking to doctors phycologist doing research on what could possibly be going on we give him unconditional love and support we put him in sports and encourage but do not force extra curricular stuff we try everything we can to get thru to him and it doesn't matter no amount of talking accepting understanding relating being strict or stern being soft and understanding nothing. Nothing works. I don't know what to do with my son anymore and if anyone has advice or has a son like mine and would like to share your story I would really appreciate it because this is really hard and I fear what his future might look like as we get into teenage years. So i work from home and have done for just over a year without any problems from virgin media or the connection. Last week i started to notice random disconnects. Fast forward to today. Ive had 2 engineers out, which replaced all wires, connections to walls, and a new hub 3...... It still has disconnected. Weirdly only when im logged into work through citrix. The whole Internet in the house goes down. Surely this isn't caused by citrix? I cannot for the life if me work it out. Virgin media are being about as useful as a Chocolate teapot at solving the issue. Any ideas?

Hi, I am PLDT fiber subcriber in Laspinas. Starting from May 28, where typhoon Mawar had stepped in to PAR there was sudden cut off internet at 6pm for brief 3 minutes and my internet has been strange ever since.
The internet is working and has acceptable speed. But despite the speed of the internet I always get a high ping in every services. But this goes away too only at 12 midnight to 5 am in the morning. After this period the ping spikes again.
I asked the customer services about this and they replied me with
" Upon checking, your service is affected by an outage that's why you are experiencing a sharp spike in ping. This is already giving you lots of inconveniences so what we will do right now is send multiple follow-ups to our zone partner there in your area to notify them of the urgency. This will also serve as a request to expedite and prioritize the restoration of your service above all. Rest assured that your service will be restored as soon as possible. "
This behavior is unexplainable with just a term "outage". If this was really an "outage" then why it fixes it self every midnight to morning. This is impossible to be explained unless someone intentionally limits the flow of internet.
Then provided me with the ticket, I did check it and it says "Network/Techincal issue and estimated time of restoration will be 24~48 hours." Huh? Bro wtf the term "network/technical issue" is just them not knowing what the problem is and why even bother to put time limit if it is even not going to be fixed at all?
Heres the crazy part. In May 31 (yesterday) I tried to chat with PLDT customer care. I asked them about it and they said they dont know what is causing the phenomenon and aksed be if I want to be redirected to the technical team. I said yes and guess what. They just closed the chatting session.
SMH they cut the internet the fastest when the bill is not paid without prior notice and when they fail to deliver good services *The customer* is provided with 0 information 0 advisory and 0 customer service. I assume this is what monopoly does to a company. What a lazy incompetent idle fkers. I cant believe that they have audacity to bill me with out any compensations or what so ever.

I do not hope to alarm anyone or cause any anxiety and confusion on this but I have gone past the line today and drank coffee with lion's mane mushroom and omega-3, I have been doing this lion's mane mushroom and omega-3 pairing everyday for almost a month now, I have only been feeling sleepy and I would often nap during the day with weird ass dreams mostly during the hours between 11 to 15, and I think this contributed to my sleeplessness at night, the fact that I'm napping for so long in the day, but since I didnt want to nap anymore today, I woke up from the nap and drank coffee, (No I didn't drink it with lion's mane mushroom I had 2000mg of it in the morning with breakfast) it seems that, the caffeine and lion's mane in my system have interacted somewhat weirdly in my OWN BIOCHEMISTRY and I am getting headaches and dizziness, and very sleepy right now (HAha i can finally sleep better tonight). I was just going through the internet going through pages seeing if this generally happens but seeing as I am here I have found no comrades... I hope this recovers tomorrow, will give update. But, I just realised another factor in my feeling weird right now, it might well be that I consumed some normal white mushrooms, like the ones you normally use in food, I had it for breakfast with the lions mane, it might have overloaded my system for mushrooms. By the way, I have been feeling droopy this week (I'm just extra droopy today), it might be the lion's mane and some other factors, but I am sure lion's mane have contributed to it. Note this, I have felt so much better mentally after taking lion's mane mushroom during the first week, but now, I feel like it is no longer giving me any benefits, worse, it might have pushed me further back.

Although less vintage than many would expect this still is a vintage piece of tech now.
So today i received a MK1 CF-19 Toughbook and am struggling to not only find the drivers for it but to actually get windows XP running on the machine as it does not see the hard drive that i have inserted.
By any chance or wave of luck does anyone here have the original ISO images for recovery of this laptop model to factory condition?

I have a medium FB2 girl that just turned 11-week-old yesterday. We were at the vet today for her 2nd round of vaccines. We asked the vet when would be the best time to get her spayed and he recommended the sooner, the better, and as soon as her last round of shots which is at the end of June (close to 4 months old). As far as recovery and post-care, it will be easier at a young age.
We were also told by a family member that females have a foul odor when in heat. They spayed their second dog (both put bulls) after their first menstrual cycle because when they got their first dog before the period even started, the smell was just really foul. So they recommend doing after the first cycle. Not sure if this applies to all females dogs.
Internet search says between 5-15 months but that’s kinda ambiguous.
When did you spayed your girl? Did you noticed any behavioral change? Did your girl still smell when in heat season even after spaying?

This story takes place a few years ago, back when I had just graduated from high school, in the summer months that separated my juvenile years from the coming dawn of (semi)-adulthood.
I was naive then, still a child without a care in the world, save for my life ahead of me and spending the rest of my ‘youthful days’ with my friends.
So we decided to go on a trip around the world to sightsee, to be close before we were inevitably forced apart. We journeyed off into the lands of the British, to the towers of France, and even to the deep jungles of South America.
It was all very fun until we decided to head over to a little known island by the name of Bandai Landang somewhere in the Java Sea. If you look for the island now it barely shows anything save for a few internet forum adventures gone bad and Bandai Namco, the entertainment company.
I think our friend Canopy was the one who found out about it. He was always into the weirder side of things.
The island can be considered a micronation, but the countries nearby all claim it’s part of theirs. Indonesia, Malaysia, and even China have it listed as some other name. No, I’m not going to share the ‘official’ name of the island- I don’t want anymore unfortunate wanderers.
Anyway, Canopy said the island promised exquisite beaches, awesome views, and untouched air and a sense of peace.
“I’ve never heard of this,” I pointed out. “Is it really a thing?”
He patted my shoulder. “It’ll be fun! My cousin’s been there and she said it was AWESOME!”
So we decided to venture onto the island. We were nearby anyway, and after asking around, Canopy managed to find us a ferry that would take us there.
This is where things go wrong. This is where we had to split up.
“I’m sorry,” the old man running the boat said, “the ferry's full.” And so our group of six was split into three.
Canopy, Myra, and Al went on first, and the rest of us- me, Quincy, and Jan would have to stay over the next day. Now it was only too late when we found out that there were no ferries crossing the next day.
“It was perfectly fine yesterday?” I snapped, confused. “The weather hasn’t even changed!”
The old man who’d ferried our friends shook his head. “Today is… festival,” he pronounced. “Water no good- there are things in the water. Evil things.”
“What festival?” Quincy demanded. But the old man had walked away, leaving us on a very empty dock. “What-” he sighed.
“It’s okay,” Jan assured. “There’s things to do here.”
I nodded, and we started to walk back to our hotel when a burly man appeared. He was white, not local, and had an air of gusto to him. “You three really believe that crap about the festival?”
I looked at him, perplexed, and shook my head. “No. We just want to get too the island.”
He took my hand and shook it. “Name’s Captain Murrow,” he told. “And I can take you to the island.”
This was great news. So I shook it and we settled on a deal. He charged double the price, being as that he was the only one willing to take us. And being naive kids, we decided it was a fair trade.
We just wanted to see our friends.
Besides us and the Captain there were two others on board- a rich couple that seemed to avoid us with their dog, a fancy chihuahua of some sort that barked at everything.
“Enjoy yourselves,” Murrow suggested. “It’ll be an hour.”
An hour wasn’t that bad, considering the flights we’d traveled and the hikes we’d been on. So me and my friends made small talk, and we chatted about colleges, journeys, romance, all the little things that made up life.
The fog rolled in an hour later, when we were supposed to have arrived.
“Excuse me, friends,” Captain Murrow announced. “We seem to have drifted…” there was a certain confusion to how he was saying his words, “...off course?”
Me and Quincy ran up on deck while Jan slept. We found the rich, pretentious looking couple bickering with the captain. “I can’t wait any longer with this riff-raff on board,” she hissed, dog barking in hand. “We’re going to be late for the auction!”
“Is this some sort of tourist trap?” her husband snarled. “I’ll pay you all you need to set us back on course!”
Murrow’s brow furrowed. “I don’t know what exactly is going on,” he told. “This hasn’t happened before.”
Quincy spoke up. “Maybe the legends are true and we never should’ve gone.” I giggled at that. “OoooOo!” he joked. I think Murrow found it a little funny, cause he smiled.
The couple most certainly did not. “Kids like you will never understand what it means to be on time,” the woman hissed. “Always late.”
Her husband looked out into the mist and pointed. “Look- there are-” he squinted his eyes, “boats!”
Jan came out, wondering why we hadn’t arrived. I told her we didn’t know, and the three of us- and Murrow walked over to the edge.
There was nothing out there, much to the man’s confusion. But the more we drifted, and the more Murrow tried to set us back on course the more it seemed there was something out there.
A sense of- dread? Fear? Excitement- filled my veins. It was all very new and interesting. A youthful adventure- a group lost at sea, ready to be rescued!
“Boats!” the husband shouted. “Look!”
This was when they came into view. First it was one or two, little wooden rafts that drifted in the distance against the ferry- despite the wind blowing the opposite direction.
And then more started to come, and closer they came. They were tattered wooden things, ripped by wind and cut-like marks.
That’s when we saw what was on them. “What the hell?” Jan whispered. “Are those-”
They were almost like dolls, burnt and faceless, strung against the boats, strapped downwards with odd multicolored ropes that stood out against the graying mist. “They must be dolls, right?” I asked.
Quincy sniffed the air and withdrew in fear. “I don’t think so.” I smelt it too as the wind blew, now harsh.
It smelled of decay. Burned flesh and the sickly stench of burnt hair. “Is this the festival?” the woman pleaded, asking Murrow. She folded her arms in disbelief. “Some trick.”
“I’ve heard of these,” Murrow murmured, now serious. “I didn’t think they’d be true.”
Jan asked him what they were as more drifted nearer and nearer. The answer was just as foreboding.
“Corpse boats,” he told. It was said an unprepared traveler wandering the seas at night would find themselves met with the rafts. They would smell the decay at first, and the burnt hair.
Then they would see the burnt, paper-wrapped bodies, strapped to the boat. It was said that once a year a couple traveling out those would kids would meet them- and that they would vanish forever.
And there was something else to them, too- staring at them for too long would-
The husband gasped before Murrow could finish. “Alice, look!” he shouted. “It’s- it’s Marissa!”
The woman looked blankly at the ocean, seeing nothing. “What the hell are you talking about?” she spat. “Of course you’re thinking about your ex at a time like this!” And then she turned to the captain. “Get us out of here. This trip is over.”
“No, look- it’s-” and then he stopped. And then across the boat, floating in parallel with us was one of the corpse boats, closer than ever.
The raft was different. Three sharp, pointed sticks raised upwards, and the foul smelling corpse-doll (what were they?) was impaled. A stick through the head made it look upwards.
“She’s calling my name,” he stammered, walking away back. He screamed and put his hands around his ears. He screamed and screamed, backing away, terrified. We started to back away, shocked by his actions.
And then he did the impossible. He ran and flung himself off the ship, whispering the name “Marissa!” as he fell.
There was no splash. Just an empty nothing. “What the hell!” I yelped. It wasn’t even a question, it was just- shock.
Hesitantly, the three of us looked downwards. No strung up impaled corpse was there. No husband to be seen. Just the fog, the sea, and the corpse boats in the distance passing us by.
“Don’t look at them!” Murrow snapped, finishing his story. “Don’t look at them or they’ll take you!”
We instantly avoided our gaze, returning to the center of deck, staring at the ground instead. The boat suddenly hit something, and it flung us to a side.
I picked myself up and-
It was in front of me. Impossibly, an impaled, foul smelling corpse covered paper, arms strung almost trying to reach me. For a second it wasn’t a corpse but the dead body of my high school sweetheart and I almost reached to meet it.
But I avoided my gaze and shut my eyes.
Then my hair began to be brushed, to be braided, they same way she would do it before she’d been killed in a car accident. I heard whispers in my ear, whispers I couldn’t make out that sounded all too familiar.
“Come with me,” I heard. “Float away…”
And then I heard screaming, and the feeling of the thing near me evaporated. I opened my eyes to see the rich woman tugging at Captain Murrow. “Look!” she cried, pointing to the ocean.
“I don’t-” he was tugged, “-want to!”
“It’s my husband!” she snarled. “How’d he get on one of those?!” she slapped Murrow across the cheek. “Get him back here.”
In the sea I saw a corpse, impaled and stretched out to reach out to her. The woman started back lovingly. “Don’t worry- I’ll get you!” And then she, with Murrow in hand stepped over the barrier and, with her free hand, clasped the corpse’s hand in hers.
And then she screamed. The body pulled her dowards with such force her arm was ripped clean off.
She screamed and fell over the edge- taking Murrow with her- but Quincy and Jan leapt to action, seizing him just before our captain was lost forever.
Like before, there was no splash. Nothing to tell us she’d ever been there but for a confused chihuahua and blood on deck.
We spent the next hour below deck, avoiding the rest of the corpse-boats. And just as it had all begun the boat seemed to right itself on course. The sun shone brightly, and Murrow ferried us to the docks.
I texted my friends, the three who'd come before- but they didn’t respond.
I asked around where they’d gone, and after a while, a visitor to the island told me they jumped off after looking into the ocean for far too long. I asked further, to the locals who had been on the boat the day before.
So many had vanished on the journey. They were only three more.
I researched this phenomenon as the years passed by, wondering if they would ever be found. This event isn’t local to the journey to Bandai Landang, though. No, Corpse Boats have been sighted throughout history and in international waters.
Be careful when you travel by ferry. Don’t look at the corpse boats or you’ll end up like many of the missing at sea.

“It was perfectly fine yesterday?” I snapped, confused. “The weather hasn’t even changed!”
The old man who’d ferried our friends shook his head. “Today is… festival,” he pronounced. “Water no good- there are things in the water. Evil things.”
“What festival?” Quincy demanded. But the old man had walked away, leaving us on a very empty dock. “What-” he sighed.
“It’s okay,” Jan assured. “There’s things to do here.”
I nodded, and we started to walk back to our hotel when a burly man appeared. He was white, not local, and had an air of gusto to him. “You three really believe that crap about the festival?”
I looked at him, perplexed, and shook my head. “No. We just want to get too the island.”
He took my hand and shook it. “Name’s Captain Murrow,” he told. “And I can take you to the island.”
This was great news. So I shook it and we settled on a deal. He charged double the price, being as that he was the only one willing to take us. And being naive kids, we decided it was a fair trade.
We just wanted to see our friends.
Besides us and the Captain there were two others on board- a rich couple that seemed to avoid us with their dog, a fancy chihuahua of some sort that barked at everything.
“Enjoy yourselves,” Murrow suggested. “It’ll be an hour.”
An hour wasn’t that bad, considering the flights we’d traveled and the hikes we’d been on. So me and my friends made small talk, and we chatted about colleges, journeys, romance, all the little things that made up life.
The fog rolled in an hour later, when we were supposed to have arrived.
“Excuse me, friends,” Captain Murrow announced. “We seem to have drifted…” there was a certain confusion to how he was saying his words, “...off course?”
Me and Quincy ran up on deck while Jan slept. We found the rich, pretentious looking couple bickering with the captain. “I can’t wait any longer with this riff-raff on board,” she hissed, dog barking in hand. “We’re going to be late for the auction!”
“Is this some sort of tourist trap?” her husband snarled. “I’ll pay you all you need to set us back on course!”
Murrow’s brow furrowed. “I don’t know what exactly is going on,” he told. “This hasn’t happened before.”
Quincy spoke up. “Maybe the legends are true and we never should’ve gone.” I giggled at that. “OoooOo!” he joked. I think Murrow found it a little funny, cause he smiled.
The couple most certainly did not. “Kids like you will never understand what it means to be on time,” the woman hissed. “Always late.”
Her husband looked out into the mist and pointed. “Look- there are-” he squinted his eyes, “boats!”
Jan came out, wondering why we hadn’t arrived. I told her we didn’t know, and the three of us- and Murrow walked over to the edge.
There was nothing out there, much to the man’s confusion. But the more we drifted, and the more Murrow tried to set us back on course the more it seemed there was something out there.
A sense of- dread? Fear? Excitement- filled my veins. It was all very new and interesting. A youthful adventure- a group lost at sea, ready to be rescued!
“Boats!” the husband shouted. “Look!”
This was when they came into view. First it was one or two, little wooden rafts that drifted in the distance against the ferry- despite the wind blowing the opposite direction.
And then more started to come, and closer they came. They were tattered wooden things, ripped by wind and cut-like marks.
That’s when we saw what was on them. “What the hell?” Jan whispered. “Are those-”
They were almost like dolls, burnt and faceless, strung against the boats, strapped downwards with odd multicolored ropes that stood out against the graying mist. “They must be dolls, right?” I asked.
Quincy sniffed the air and withdrew in fear. “I don’t think so.” I smelt it too as the wind blew, now harsh.
It smelled of decay. Burned flesh and the sickly stench of burnt hair. “Is this the festival?” the woman pleaded, asking Murrow. She folded her arms in disbelief. “Some trick.”
“I’ve heard of these,” Murrow murmured, now serious. “I didn’t think they’d be true.”
Jan asked him what they were as more drifted nearer and nearer. The answer was just as foreboding.
“Corpse boats,” he told. It was said an unprepared traveler wandering the seas at night would find themselves met with the rafts. They would smell the decay at first, and the burnt hair.
Then they would see the burnt, paper-wrapped bodies, strapped to the boat. It was said that once a year a couple traveling out those would kids would meet them- and that they would vanish forever.
And there was something else to them, too- staring at them for too long would-
The husband gasped before Murrow could finish. “Alice, look!” he shouted. “It’s- it’s Marissa!”
The woman looked blankly at the ocean, seeing nothing. “What the hell are you talking about?” she spat. “Of course you’re thinking about your ex at a time like this!” And then she turned to the captain. “Get us out of here. This trip is over.”
“No, look- it’s-” and then he stopped. And then across the boat, floating in parallel with us was one of the corpse boats, closer than ever.
The raft was different. Three sharp, pointed sticks raised upwards, and the foul smelling corpse-doll (what were they?) was impaled. A stick through the head made it look upwards.
“She’s calling my name,” he stammered, walking away back. He screamed and put his hands around his ears. He screamed and screamed, backing away, terrified. We started to back away, shocked by his actions.
And then he did the impossible. He ran and flung himself off the ship, whispering the name “Marissa!” as he fell.
There was no splash. Just an empty nothing. “What the hell!” I yelped. It wasn’t even a question, it was just- shock.
Hesitantly, the three of us looked downwards. No strung up impaled corpse was there. No husband to be seen. Just the fog, the sea, and the corpse boats in the distance passing us by.
“Don’t look at them!” Murrow snapped, finishing his story. “Don’t look at them or they’ll take you!”
We instantly avoided our gaze, returning to the center of deck, staring at the ground instead. The boat suddenly hit something, and it flung us to a side.
I picked myself up and-
It was in front of me. Impossibly, an impaled, foul smelling corpse covered paper, arms strung almost trying to reach me. For a second it wasn’t a corpse but the dead body of my high school sweetheart and I almost reached to meet it.
But I avoided my gaze and shut my eyes.
Then my hair began to be brushed, to be braided, they same way she would do it before she’d been killed in a car accident. I heard whispers in my ear, whispers I couldn’t make out that sounded all too familiar.
“Come with me,” I heard. “Float away…”
And then I heard screaming, and the feeling of the thing near me evaporated. I opened my eyes to see the rich woman tugging at Captain Murrow. “Look!” she cried, pointing to the ocean.
“I don’t-” he was tugged, “-want to!”
“It’s my husband!” she snarled. “How’d he get on one of those?!” she slapped Murrow across the cheek. “Get him back here.”
In the sea I saw a corpse, impaled and stretched out to reach out to her. The woman started back lovingly. “Don’t worry- I’ll get you!” And then she, with Murrow in hand stepped over the barrier and, with her free hand, clasped the corpse’s hand in hers.
And then she screamed. The body pulled her dowards with such force her arm was ripped clean off.
She screamed and fell over the edge- taking Murrow with her- but Quincy and Jan leapt to action, seizing him just before our captain was lost forever.
Like before, there was no splash. Nothing to tell us she’d ever been there but for a confused chihuahua and blood on deck.
We spent the next hour below deck, avoiding the rest of the corpse-boats. And just as it had all begun the boat seemed to right itself on course. The sun shone brightly, and Murrow ferried us to the docks.
I texted my friends, the three who'd come before- but they didn’t respond.
I asked around where they’d gone, and after a while, a visitor to the island told me they jumped off after looking into the ocean for far too long. I asked further, to the locals who had been on the boat the day before.
So many had vanished on the journey. They were only three more.
I researched this phenomenon as the years passed by, wondering if they would ever be found. This event isn’t local to the journey to Bandai Landang, though. No, Corpse Boats have been sighted throughout history and in international waters.
Be careful when you travel by ferry. Don’t look at the corpse boats or you’ll end up like many of the missing at sea.

I appreciate that as a middle age (45) British man, that I am the key demographic for a very real mental health crisis. I have suffered from depression, have had therapy and tried using antidepressants on and off since before Covid.
It would be naive to ask you how to 'cure' my depression so let's try to meet half way and discuss how to be a least positive and cheerful - deep down.
I'm one of those guys who is happy at work - my colleagues may not even believe I suffer from depression but as soon as I get home the grey clouds of home life descend upon me and its like living in a prison. My wife and kids go about their lives knowing Dad is a bit sad or angry today; we are trying marriage counselling but it all comes down to my depression - my inability to be positive about me or them.
I am a genuinely miserable git, lost, angry, sad and confused, lonely, empty - right there in the crisis like some many other men in this county. I know it's not just me. Was it always this way or is this just a post-internet thing do you think?

I've been unable to matchmake - and am playing in an empty everything - since coming home from work last night. I was playing with clan the night before so at that time I could join others. Now, even with invite, I cannot.
I've spent, no joke, hours doing All The Things and nothing is fixing it.
This is what I've done:
Computer:
Rebooted (rebooted, rebooted, rebooted, and... rebooted)
Verified files on Steam
Uninstalled and reinstalled Destiny
Uninstalled and reinstalled Destiny from my external SSD to my built in hard drive
Windows Firewall - added rules for inbound and outbound TCP and UDP
Set static IP address
Removed static IP address when it affected internet access
On router:
Cycled modem/routecomputer
Turned UPnP on
Turned UPnP off and Port Forwarded and Opened all stated ports on https://help.bungie.net/hc/en-us/articles/360049496751 (as the article says not to do both at the same time)
Deleted port forwarding and reverted to UPnP
Note I rebooted the router after every change
My device sets Type 2 NAT and I'd rather not change that to Open (and even if I wanted to tp-link for my Archer router says turn on UPnP which did NOT change)
I am hardwired, not wireless
I have no error codes - I simply sit in a queue 1 of 8 for Gambit, 1 of 3 for Vanguard - until eventually I get sent 'back to orbit' for Gambit and just hang indefinitely for Vanguard
This worked fine on Monday. Came home to this last night and it is failing again today.
The only clear difference I see Monday to last night is seeing the BattlEye pop-up on every reboot.
A clanmate sent me an invite to join and I finally got some information which was that my NAT is MODERATE and needs to be changed
I went to Windows Firewall and changed settings as suggested in above article
Bungie apparently has zero support (lovely) to contact so throwing myself on player mercy
Anyone have any other thoughts at all?
